CS:GO Weekly improvement with CSGO HUB

We take a look at how you can take your skills to the next level with CSGO HUB, ESL's newest online service.

Last month ESL launched a new online platform that focuses on offering players new and fun ways to hone their skills. By linking your Steam account to the platform and providing it with your game authentication code, it will start analyzing every match you play on the official matchmaking servers from then on. To create such an authentication code, simply go to the <a href="https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGameIssue/?appid=730&amp;issueid=128" target="_blank" rel="noopener">authentication code creator and press the button under "Access to Your Match History" to create one. Once it's made, simply copy it and enter it into the box on CSGO HUB's setting page to start automatic match tracking. If you would like the platform to take into account matches played before signing up, you will have to add them manually by getting the share code for the demo in- game. Currently, there is no support for matches played on FaceIt's platform, and considering CSGO HUB was created by ESL there is little chance of that to ever happen. However, for those that play matchmaking or on ESEA, CSGO HUB will be an incredibly valuable tool.

The platform will not only analyze your games to see what you're struggling with, it will also offer you missions to complete which will push you to explore previously ignored aspects of the game. For example, it might tell you to use a weapon you usually don't buy or to win one or multiple games on a map you usually do not queue for. These missions will push you to broaden your in-game horizons and become a more valuable player overall. Completing missions will also reward you with EXP on the platform, pushing you higher into its rankings. The main focus of the platform, however, lies on two components: map analysis and your report card.

Map Analysis

The platform analyzes your performance on each map and determines your success rate of engagements all over the map, presented through color-coded hexagons. If the hexagon is filled with a dark green color, it means you regularly win shootouts from that position, while if it is filled with a dark red color, it means you regularly lose fights from that position. Yellow and orange mean that you're not consistently winning or losing engagements, but that it can go either way with the position being more or, respectively, less favorable to you.

Moreover, the information displayed can be finetuned to your interests. You can choose whether it should only show performance on the CT-side, T-side, or both, you can opt for the platform to take into account all guns or only a single weapon class and it is even possible to choose which round stages and economies it should take into account. For example, if you only want to see how successful your pistol rushes are, you can choose to only take into account pistol engagements happening within the first 30 seconds of the round on pistol economies. Moreover, you can even choose to look at the statistics from all uploaded matches from a given rank. This way, you can see the positions from which players on your rank are most successful in engagements.

If you want a deeper look at the success rate of a specific position on the map, you can click on any hexagon to get a zoomed-in view of that location. This will show you the general areas from which you most often are shut down and even the exact positions from which you either get kills or get killed. Taking this information into account, you might come to realize that the position you often hold from a given bomb site is not as good as you thought it was. For example, I see that I am often more successful when I position myself to the left of the fountain on Inferno's B site rather than right behind it in the middle of the site.

Report Card

The second component of CSGO HUB is your personal report card. Taking into account your matchmaking rank, the platform will give you a weekly report card. The basic report card will tell you three things. It will give you an overall grade and tell you how much you improved compared to last week, it will tell you what your overall top skills are and, finally, it will tell you what skills need more honing. For example, from my report card, it is clear that I had an important impact on many rounds and that I knew how to use my Molotovs and how to manage my economy. At the same time, I often waste money on utility that I do not use before I get killed, often get trade-killed after eliminating one of my enemies and at the same time very seldom trade-kill myself. This tells me I should probably look into putting my utility to better use, improve on getting chain kills, and reactive killing.

While the basic report card already provides plenty of information for players to start working on their flaws, the platform also provides a more detailed report card for those who want a deeper look at their performance. For example, you can see for each weapon whether you perform well in terms of kill per round and damage per round or whether your utility usage is on par with the other players of your rank. These stats go into incredible detail, showing you everything from (effective) utility usage to your clutch situation win rate. Every single gameplay aspect is put under a magnifying glass and compared to the performance of other players of the same rank.

These detailed report cards contain an immense amount of information and they are incredibly useful for those players that are having a hard time figuring out exactly why they are underperforming in their games. Considering the cards are updated weekly it becomes very easy to continuously track your performance and see whether you are making the necessary improvements. However, all of this information can be a little staggering and it is not unreasonable for players to get a little lost in all of these numbers, not knowing what exactly they should be working on improving. Luckily, the platform also provides you with weekly tips based on your worst stats which explain exactly what goes wrong when you fail to perform. These gameplay tips will provide any player with ample opportunity to improve.

Ultimately, however, the responsibility lies with you. Be smart about using the information from this platform. If your headshot percentage is low, practice on an FFA DM server or download one of the many custom maps made to practice hitting small targets. On the other hand, if your utility usage is lacking, go read some of the amazing guides written by Dignitas on utility usage and then practice them yourself so that next time a strat is called, you can execute it flawlessly. It might not be exactly fun, but it is a small investment of your time which will in turn make your actual games a lot more fun. No pain, no gain.
