Since their first song release in 2016, League of Legends launches a song every year to promote that year's League of Legends World Championship. These songs, which are often collaborations from top artists, have garnered millions of views.

The official song of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship is finally here! Titled "Take Over" (ft. Jeremy McKinnon (A Day To Remember), MAX, and Henry), the video showcases a player's path to pro under the guidance of one of the most famous League of Legend player T1's Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok. The protagonist enters the virtual world, inheriting the legacy of former World Champions, one by one. "Take Over" is produced by Line Animation, the same studio that produced "True Damage's GIANTS song", "Gorillaz's Humility" and "Song Machine".

Recently, League of Legends’ virtual K-pop group K/DA came back with their new hit “THE BADDEST" ft. SOYEON and MIYEON of (G) I-DLE, Bea Miller, and Wolftyle. Additionally, the group will release an EP later this year with what it describes as “a wide breadth of artists” featured as collaborators. You can check out their lyric video above. K/DA made their debut in 2018 with the group’s first single, “POP/STARS,” composed of Ahri, Evelynn, Akali, and Kai’Sa, which has garnered over 500 million views on YouTube.

Music continues to be an intricate part of League of Legends. Last year, a new virtual hip-hop group True Damage made their debut single “GIANTS”. True Damage, formed by K/DA’s Akali (SOYEON of (G) I-DLE), brings the talents of Ekko (Thutmose, Duckwrth), Senna (Keke Palmer), and Qiyana (Becky G) with Yasuo’s production and collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

With the 2020 world championships taking place in Shanghai beginning Sept. 25, we are looking forward to what League of Legends has in store for us. While we wait, let us travel down memory lane, experiencing the previous championship songs starting with last year's “Phoenix” featuring vocals by Chrissy Costanza and Cailin Russo. The video uses a mix of animation and live-action footage, with appearances from professional gamers, Caps, Faker, and Rookie. The 2019 League of Legends World Championship took place in Europe with finals in Paris.

“Rise” featuring The Glitch Mob, Mako, and the World Alive was 2018’s championship song. The video depicts the journey of one of the worlds most famous players, Kang “Ambition” Chan-yon, who won the 2017 world championship along with his team Samsung Galaxy. In this video, we see Kang using the weapons of his most played champions, facing off against other famous players. The 2018 League of Legends World Championship took place in South Korea with finals in Incheon.

The 2017 League of Legends World Championship took place in China with finals in Beijing. “Legends Never Die” featuring Against The Current was the 2017 world championship theme. In the video, we see three notable champions; Ashe, Lee Sin, and Garen appear in what seems to be a journey of perseverance.

The 2016 League of Legends World Championship was special to me because it took place in the United States with finals being held in my home city of Los Angeles, California. The 2016 theme “Ignite” featured Grammy award-winning DJ and EDM artist Zedd. “Ignite” brings in defining moments of past world championships like the famous Baron Steal by TSM’s Brian “TheOddOne” Wyllie. The 2015 League of Legends World Championship took place in Europe, with the finals held in Berlin, Germany. “Worlds Collide” featuring Nicki Taylor was 2015’s theme, and while this song did not receive a music video introducing worlds, it is a favorite among League of Legends fans.

The one that started it all: the 2014 League of Legends World Championship “Warriors” featuring Imagine Dragons. Introducing the 2014 championships with matches being held in Taipei, Singapore, and Seoul, and finals at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
