Interview with SoaR Gaming's Rpr

We sit down with SoaR Rpr and talk Apex.

Apex Legends has been slowing down recently, but teams are continuing their mad scramble to build a perfect roster for the coming seasons. SoaR gaming is one of the many, with their roster announcement arriving May 10th. We had the pleasure of interviewing Dan "Rpr" Ušić to talk Apex Legends and much more.

Do you mind telling us how you became a member of SoaR Gaming?

Rpr: A couple months back our previous teammate, smeef, got in contact with SoaR and ever since, then we kept chatting with SoaR in regards to Apex Legends. Eventually we ended up signing, which I couldn't be happier about.

Which character do you main, and what about that character has made you attached to it?

Rpr: Currently, I main Wraith due to being the in-game leader in our team. Wraith allows me to get a better perspective on rotations and fights we take. However, I have also mained Lifeline and Octane, which are both useful in their own way.

We’ve been devoid of content for what seems like forever. With more news to come next month, what do you think Respawn is going to show us?

Rpr: I'm not too sure what Respawn will show us, but I hope that it will include a lot more content for the casuals and possibly custom games for the competitive scene as that would kind of revive both fronts.

Apex Legends is coming to mobile. What are your expectations for the mobile experience?

Rpr: I expect that the mobile scene will be big if the game is done correctly, and I think that mobile in itself is an extremely good move from Respawn. The main priority for them should be making sure that it's a smooth experience just like Fortnite and PUBG have been able to do.

If you create your own character and have it in game, what would your character be?

Rpr: I would like another healer like Lifeline, but instead of healing base HP, the character would be repairing shield. I think a character based on that idea would be nice to have in competitive.

The beloved “Thicc Bois” (Gibraltar and Caustic) received buffs due to how weak they were compared to other characters. Do you feel like any other characters could use a rework or a buff, and why?

Rpr: I think Mirage in his current state is completely useless. The tactical ability these days fools no one; his ultimate renders him completely useless and doesn't even guarantee his safety so in a sense he traps himself.

Currently, players have been feeling like there’s no merit for being a good teammate besides bonus games experience. Reddit user johnruby suggested Respawn add an Honor System that would grant benefits such as bonus Battle Pass experience, special skins and banners. What are your thoughts on implementing a system like that?

Rpr: I don't think that a system like that would be bad at all, but I also think Respawn should just add different game modes like solos or duos. That way people that want to play solo would just play solo or play trio no fill. One of the main reasons people run off on their own and leave their teammates is because they just wanna play solo.

If/When Apex Legends gets a Ranked playlist, what kind of ranked system do you think would work best for the game?

Rpr: I believe it's pretty hard to make a proper ranked for a battle royale game, but what could be done is getting points on placement. Let's say if you finish in top 10 squads you gain points, but if you finish in the bottom 10 squads you lose points. On top of that, add kill points, and we have a simple ranked that could be a good start for Apex.

Is there anything you hope to see implemented in the game?

Rpr: A lot more content: at least two characters per season, map changes, possibly even new maps, more loot and a lot more weapons. At this point, I'm just hoping they implement any of those.

Shroud and Summit1g have very different views on Apex Legends’s capacity to be a proper eSport title, with Shroud suggesting improvements so that it could be, and Summit saying it doesn’t because of randomized loot. What are your thoughts on this?

Rpr: Out of all the battle royales I played, I believe that Apex Legends has the most fun competitive experience; the fights are so fluid and smooth and you have to rely a lot on teamwork and positioning. I thought a lot about not having randomized loot and I'm not too sure how that would work, but I would definitely like to try it out.

Anything you’d like to conclude this interview with?

Rpr: Follow SoaR, my teammates and myself on social media. @SoaRGaming @rpr twitch.tv/rpr__ @mofferz twitch.tv/mofferz

Congratulations to Rpr on joining SoaR, and we wish him and his teammates success in their competitive future in Apex Legends!
