How to get items in Teamfight Tactics (TFT)

Welcome to this League of Legends TFT Items Guide. This guide will show you how to obtain items and how to craft them in TFT!

TFT is a round-based auto-battle game that puts you up against seven other players in a race to build the most powerful team. The last team standing wins! There are 51 champions in TFT, each with its own unique ability. Each champion is tied to one of the 13 origins and 10 classes, which each have their own passive abilities.

In TFT, items are imperative to achieve success. There are a total of 8 items that can be combined to create up to 36 different item variations. Items can do many things such as regen health, gain attack speed, gain mana, gain attack damage, and much, much more. Having the right items on the right champions can be the difference in a win or a loss.

How to Get Items

There are many different ways you can receive items in TFT. At the beginning of the game, you can choose a champion with the item you want from the carousel. Every sixth round is a carousel round, where you are able to select a champion with an item for free. You can use these rounds to get the items you need to complete a full item. It is not always worth building an item on a champion just because you got it from the carousel. Sometimes it is best to sell that champion and put the item on the champion that fits your team composition. Getting the best items for the carries on your team is vital for victory.

When going around the carousels you need to look over your options and find what will help your team succeed the most. Whether it is a champion or an item, you must decide quickly. Always have a backup plan you will find your first choice will be selected by another player often. There are many different types of PvE rounds from Minions, Wolves, Raptors, Krugs, Rift Herald, and the Dragons. All of these NPCs have the chance to drop multiple items. Items that are already combined have a chance to be in the carousel round and will drop from PvE Dragon rounds.

Bad Luck Protection

For a game as random as Team Fight Tactics, there is nothing quite as random as the item drops. Some games you will finish the first three rounds and end up with only one item, and you look over to see other players as two fully completed items. But it turns out it is not at all random. Riot has implemented an algorithm for receiving items in TFT. A Riot employee said on twitter that TFT has “bad luck protection” in the PvE rounds for item drops. “Getting no items early increases the odds of getting items later. You just have to adapt and play through your weaker early game,” Riot Mort tweeted. This is a huge relief for TFT players. Knowing that it is not your bad luck but just part of the game's algorithm makes it less stressful.

Items

There are many items you can build, each with their own strengths. These are some of the most popular items based on how much value the item will offer to champions. These items below are some of the strongest items in TFT. With having 36 total items in the game it may be hard knowing what each item does if you are new to TFT.

Rapid Firecannon - Certain items are the best-in-slot for certain champions, and Rapid Firecannon is a very strong item at the moment. This item doubles the attack range of the equipped champion and makes sure that its attacks can not be dodged. Having this item on a ranged champ like Draven, Tristana, or Vayne can be a game-changer, and it is fun to put Rapid Firecannon on different champions and watch them carry the game. You will see almost every successful team have at least one Rapid Firecannon. To craft this item, you combine two Recurve Bows.

Force of Nature - This item allows you to bring one extra champion onto your board without leveling up. This item gives you a huge advantage, as having one extra champion over all the other players can be the difference-maker in a win. This item is created using two Spatulas.

Titanic Hydra - This item is great for brawlers and tanks. This allows attacks to deal 10% of the wearer's max HP as splash damage. Titanic Hydra is really strong on champions like Aatrox, Zed, Kha'Zix, Garen, and many more. To build this item you combine a Recurve Bow and a Giant's Belt.

Zephyr - This is a great strategic item. At the start of combat, the item banishes an enemy for five seconds, giving your team a massive advantage as, for five seconds, you potentially have more champions on the board than your opponent. You can build more than one Zephyr, giving you a larger advantage. This item is created by combining a Giant's Belt and a Negatron Cloak.

Redemption - When the equipped champion falls to 25% max health, Redemption activates and heals all nearby allies for 1000 health. This is a great item to put on your frontline. If your tanks somehow go down, the heal you get from Redemption can give you an upper hand. This item is built with Giant's Belt and Tear of the Goddess.

Dragon's Claw - The equipped champion gains 83% damage resistance to all magic damage. This is a great item to build if you are going against AP heavy teams and it is a great counter to Brand, Lissandra, Ahri, Kassadin, Aurelion Sol and many other characters. Combine two Negatron Cloaks to create this item.

Frozen Heart - When equipped, the adjacent enemies attack speed is 25% slower. Attack speed is very important in TFT. Most people put this item on their frontline. But putting this on the assassins on your team allows you to slow down the attack speed of the opponent's ranged carries. Putting this on a Zed, Pyke, or Kha'Zix is very effective. This item is built with Tear of the Goddess and Chain Vest.

Guardian Angel - When the equipped champion dies, it revives with 1000 health. Guardian Angel is great to put on your assassins, as allowing them to come back to life makes them more valuable. This item is built with B.F. Sword and Chain Vest.

Locket of the Iron Solari - When equipped on the start of combat, all allies to the left and right of the champion gain a shield of 200. This is a great item to make your frontline extra tanky. This item is built with Chain Vest and Needlessly Large Rod.

Bloodthirster - When equipped, the champion gains 50% lifesteal, healing them by 50% of the damage dealt by its basic attacks. This item is built with B.F. Sword and Negatron Cloak, and it is best on ranged champions like Draven and Vayne who deal the bulk of their damage from auto-attacks.

Morellonomicon - The equipped champions spells burn their targets, doing damage equal to 5% of the enemy's max health per second and preventing healing. To build this item, you combine Needlessly Large Rod and Giant's Belt. This a strong item for sorcerers and champions that do AoE damage with their spells.
