An Overview of The Best Agents - VALORANT Tier List

All Agents in Valorant ranked from best to worst.

Valorant is a game that has characters designed around different roles and playstyles. Some Agents are best suited for entry fragging and some are better supporting or handling the Operator. But not all Agents are created equal. Some have been outfitted with enough utility that they can be used in multiple roles, and some are so perfectly designed for their role that they overshadow other Agents.

Of the 11 Agents currently in the game, there is definitely a hierarchy of Agents that are either overpowered or overtuned. On the flip side of that coin, there are definitely Agents that could use a few improvements to kits or damage (Viper). Here is a ranking of every Agent in Valorant from best to worst.

1. Sage

The ultimate healer and staller, Sage started as the game’s best Agent in the beta and she still holds that status to this day. Her utility and ability to stop enemy pushes makes her top every ranking’s list because there is no Agent in Valorant’s cast that can match her.

This Agent’s biggest strength is her healing and revive abilities. The ability to heal another Agent, for free, and revive fallen allies shifts rounds into her favor and makes it impossible for players to call out how much damage they have done to an enemy if their Sage is still Alive.

Even without those two abilities she would still be a menace to deal with. Her Wall Orb and Slow Orb can stall pushes significantly and allows her to get places that normally only Duelists can get to.

2. Cypher

Cypher is currently the only Agent who can hold down an entire bombsite by himself. That alone puts him into the conversation for best Agent. The Moroccan spy has the second most utility in the game and is normally a must have in professional play.

His Spycam is great for looking down sight lines without getting in harm's way, and his trip wires make it so enemies have to think twice before entering an area or flanking. His Cyber Cage also block vision, stalling pushes.

Cypher does have a steep learning curve and is not as useful on offense as he is on defense. That said, he is not useless when attacking and provides important tools for counter-flanking and peeking.

3. Breach

Breach is an Agent that is wholly frustrating to play against. The Agent does have a steep learning curve like Cypher but, once mastered, is a menace. His combination of flashes and stuns make attacking or defending against him a nightmare.

Breach is another Agent that brings a lot of utility to the table. He has a flash, two abilities that disorient enemies, and a slow moving damage ability. He is currently the only Agent in the game who has two abilities that can stun and disrupt an enemy’s aim.

Breach has the most well-rounded kit in the game when it comes to utility and damage potential. He does require some getting used to, and is very reliant on running at the enemy, but that doesn’t detract from his potential.

4. Sova

Sova is another Agent that can add vision and safe-peeking utility. The Agent is more nimble than Cypher, but lacks some of the finer edges that would propel him to the top of this list.

Sova’s Recon Bolt and Owl Drone can provide valuable information for his team and his Ultimate can clear out a room while also providing vision. Players that learn the various arrow setups and master the angles and bounces can take over a game by themselves.

The Agent’s only detractors are his Shock Bolts and his Recon Bolt cooldown. The damaging arrows are a little lackluster in the damage department and are niche in their usefulness. The cooldown on his Recon Bolt is 35 seconds so if it is mispositioned or wasted, then the Agent loses almost all of his utility.

5. Reyna

The newest addition to the Valorant cast, Reyna is the perfect entry fragger and all of her utility is centered around getting that initial kill. The Agent operates at the peak of aggressive playmaking and she rewards players for getting kills more than anything else.

She is light on utility without getting kills, but her flash is still useful and usually causes enough disruption to secure a kill. For what this Agent lacks in team utility, she makes up for in killing power. Reyna can take on multiple enemies at once and can completely wipe out an enemy if her Ultimate is used correctly.

Though, this Agent does have some big downsides. Without kills, she feels largely useless so if an ally steals her kill or she isn’t played as an entry fragger, she will lose most of her value.

6. Brimstone

Brimstone is widely considered the most stock Agent in the game, providing smokes, a molotov, and a high damage Ultimate. Brimstone is the Agent to measure other Agents against in terms of utility and all around design.

His smokes are the best in the game, they last the longest and are very safe to deploy. His molotov is a great way to control a zone and his Ultimate is great for clearing out a room. His Stim Beacon is a little underwhelming, its uses are pretty niche and players can go a whole game without buying the ability.

Brimstone lands smack in the middle of this list because of his great smokes and zone control, and lack of punch with his other abilities. He is still often seen in most Valorant compositions, but can be replaced by other agents pretty easily.

7. Phoenix

Phoenix is a staple of Valorant as a game and is another stock Agent that newer additions will be graded against. His flash is one of the best in the game, and he even has some zone control despite his classification as a Duelist.

His entire kit makes him a great entry fragger. His flash and Ultimate make it easy for him to peek corners and his other abilities let him heal himself after the initial fight. His wall and Hot Hands abilities can be used to hold down an area as well.

His main downside is his rigid design. He can mostly only be used as an entry fragger and his Ultimate can get him into trouble if it is not initiated in a safe area. He is a staple in most Valorant compositions, but could be phased out as new Agents get added to the game.

8. Omen

Omen has a unique place in Valorant. He can be hyper aggressive and throw himself at the enemy team, or play passive and hold down an area with his smokes and flash. His main utility is his teleport which can get him advantageous sightlines or a free spike plant.

The Agent is great on offense and defense, launching smokes and flashes through walls while teleporting to better cover. The rework on his smokes for Valorant’s launch also lowered his learning curve by a lot, so now he can be picked up very easily by players.

This Agent does have some significant drawbacks. His teleports are very noticeable, especially his Ultimate, thanks to their audio cues. These noises are there to balance him, but they end up making him susceptible to counter play and knocks him down a few spots in ranking.

9. Raze

Raze is another Duelist who offers some pretty powerful abilities. She can move quickly, clear corners, and has an extremely high damage output. She is often positioned as a solo queue menace, topping the post-match leaderboard with multiple kills.

Raze’s Blast Packs give her excellent mobility and allow her to move quickly or get to higher areas. Her Boombot can clear corners effectively, and her Paint Shells and Ultimate provide some massive damage.

But, she provides little utility outside of damage and kills. Her Boombot can be countered or destroyed pretty easily and her lack of zone control makes her a lot harder to play on defence. Raze is best when running at an enemy with her Ultimate or bombs, outside of that she has little use.

10. Jett

Jett has the best mobility in the game. She can get to high areas and move incredibly quickly across short distances. She also has smokes and her Ultimate can have a lot of utility if used at the right time.

This Agent, like most in the Duelist class, is very high-risk, high-reward. She can jump into the enemy team, take out two and run away in the blink of an eye, or just get shot in the face as she Tailwinds in.

The Agent does lack some basic utility and her smokes are not that great, they have the shortest duration in the game. Her Ultimate is most useful if earned in the first three rounds, killing enemies who cannot afford better guns, but is outclassed as the game goes on.

11. Viper

In a weird inverse of Sage, Viper has been considered the worst Valorant Agent since beta and that has continued past launch and even after her most recent buffs. The Agent does have some decent zone control tools, but feels outclasses by every Agent in the game.

Her Toxic Screen and Viper’s Pit provide decent zone control. They can be used when holding down a bombsite and pushing into one. Her Snake Bite is also useful for holding down an area and even has some added utility now that makes it a great combo with other Agents.

Viper’s main weakness is her overall lack of punch and the various counterplay against her. Her Ultimate is a double edged sword while her only smoke is very limited in its uses. The fuel mechanic that guides her kit is very limiting to how and when she can use her zone controlling abilities.

As stated above, all Agents are not created equal. Valorant’s cast of Agents includes some incredibly overtuned characters, packed to the gills with utility and value. It also has some well-balanced Agents that lack a certain punch to their kits that would put them over the edge in terms of power or utility. Then, you have Agents that lack any sort of utility but are still fun to play and can be useful when played correctly or in the right compositions.

The game only has 11 playable characters, but none feel completely useless for an entire match. No character has been phased out of the meta and as the game advances players should find more uses and strategies for Agents that currently lack some value or utility.
