Interview With New DIG Rocket League Player Aztral
I talk to Aztral about joining the team, how he is settling in, and what the future is looking like.
Dignitas' Rocket League team has faced some shifts recently regarding its roster. With our new addition Maëllo "Aztral" Ernst, I got the chance to sit down and talk to him regarding the future of the team and how he is fitting into the squad.
I think the first question should be how have you started to settle in to the org? And how much of a step up is this from the previous few months, or even years, in the esports scene?
Aztral: It's a really, really big step up. The organisation is big and really good, and before I was just playing with random players. So now being with pro players in a pro team is really, really different.
I think that is really inspirational for players who are looking to get into the esports scene. Dignitas have had a successful past in Rocket League esports, so after Turbopolsa's departure, are you nervous about filling his shoes at all?
Aztral: Of course. Because, you know, he was the three time world champion, he won the world championship with Dignitas, so I'm like 'Okay, he is really big. So, I really need to do the same." So, it is a little bit stressful, but I am excited to try and become as good as him.
That's great to hear! So what new things do you think you can bring to this team that we might not have seen before?
Aztral: Maybe more mechanical plays, because I am more of a mechanical player. Like, I am not in the same group as Turbo, because Turbo is a very smart player. But with me, I focus a lot more on mechanics, so I am a lot different in that way.
How well do you think you mesh with Yukeo and ViolentPanda? Do you think there is a good chemistry there?
Aztral: Yeah! We just need to work, work, and work because it has not been too long that we have been playing together, so I think we just need to practice together, and I think it is going to be really good.
Adding on to that, then, do you think your, Yukeo's, and ViolentPanda's playstyles complement each other nicely?
Aztral: Yeah, they do because Panda is more of a defensive player, Yukeo is like mid-field and offense, and I am, of course, more on offense. So that's really good, it means we match really well.
When you're in comms, is there a lot of constructive criticism in order to help each other?
Aztral: We save the replays, and after the scrims we take a look at them to see what could have been done better. There's a lot of that.
Awesome! So how have your first few competitive tournaments with the team been?
Aztral: The first tournament was really stressful because I was like 'Okay, now it's my first tournament with a really big team', so it was really, really different. But the feeling was really, really good, especially after winning a lot of games.
So do you see an improvement over every time you play together?
Aztral: Yeah, of course! After [DreamHack] Valencia, we were good, but we knew we could be really better. After we did some scrims, now we are going to play at BTS (Beyond the Summit) and I am really confident about that because we are really playing a lot better.
Good news, so how successful do you think the team will be in the coming future?
Aztral: I hope really, really well. We will see with RLCS, but as I said I am really confident. We will probably do really, really great with our results.
