We came up with some tips for Console players to help you crush the competition in the “Console Solo Cash Cup” tournaments to have the chance at earning some cash prizes.
Playing against PC players in Arena and Online Tournaments in Fortnite can be a tough and frankly frustrating experience for players competing on Consoles. The huge hardware differences can make it difficult for Console players to win games and get high placings, which unfortunately means they have a harder time trying to earn money and show off their Building skills.
But with the release of Season 3 in the 3rd Chapter of the Fortnite saga, Epic Games announced that they will finally be hosting another “Console Solo Cash Cup” on the 27th of June, a tournament only for people playing on XBOX, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch.
This is the first of many “Console Cash Cups” that will eventually appear later on in the season after the FNCS in July, where the Console tournaments will be held on a weekly basis starting on the 15th of August. This upcoming tournament is a perfect opportunity for Console players to gain experience in a competitive tournament on an even playing field and prepare for the many more “Console Cash Cups” to come.
We want to help you by sharing our best tips for Console players to achieve high placings in Console only tournaments, and hopefully earning yourself a little bit of extra cash.
We’re not saying you have to get a win in every match you play, but we are saying you need to be consistently placing high enough so you can get the maximum number of points possible just in case you don’t get a win at all, even if that means sacrificing Eliminations.
Going off of the results of the previous “Solo Cash Cup” that was played, an average points per game of anywhere from a 5.2 all the way up to a 22.5 will secure yourself some prize earnings. This means that you can get an average placing of 20th place, with no Eliminations whatsoever, no wins at all, and still be in the position to earn some cash.
All of this sounds very promising, but it is harder than it seems. Staying alive in a game filled with people who are just as hungry for a win as you is difficult, and don’t forget this is Battle Royale, every game is different, and anything can happen. So to increase your chances of staying alive, you need to be playing in a strategic and tactical playstyle for the duration of your matches.
Play with the Zone, not against it! You’re playing for placements, if possible, you should be staying away from people for as long as you can until Late Game comes. Land somewhere that you’re comfortable with and you know the area and grab the best loot you can find. Then farm up as many materials as possible and stick to the edge of the zone for as long as you can to ensure your safety. Placement Points are key to placing high in this specific tournament, so play slowly and carefully, be aware of your surroundings and limit your number of engagements with players.
But don’t disregard Eliminations completely, our next tip explains why that is a little bit further.
There’s no doubt that playing for placement points in these tournaments is the correct strategy to take, but disregarding getting Eliminations completely may just stop you from achieving the final placement you’re looking for.
Throwing away your life for an Elimination is a risky thing to do considering the value of staying alive, but you can eliminate that risk if you know the right time to go for an elimination and also know when to back off.
Going for Eliminations during early, and mid game should be avoided unless you have a clear advantage over the other player. There are certain times when you know you’ll have an advantage over them, they essentially need to be “Free” Eliminations.
These instances are where you land beside a player at the beginning of the game and you get a Gun before they do. Maybe you catch a player rotating to the next zone and you know you can get a few shots on them to give you the advantage going into the fight or seeing two people fighting and then coming in for the Third Party. These are really the only instances where you should be going for Eliminations outside late game, play it safe.
Most of the Eliminations you get should be during late game because it’s the safest time to get them, you can keep an eye on everyone in the lobby because the circles are so small that there should be no room for third partying. The average Eliminations per game for the last top 55 players in the previous “Cash Cup” was only two, if you can make it to late game, you should be able to pick off one or two Eliminations quite easily while everyone is rotating to the next circle.
Late game Eliminations come naturally if you know where to position yourself when rotating for the final circles, openings will pop up and you can easily catch people off guard because there is so much chaos going on.
There are two power positions that you need to be in at all times to help you stay alive during the final circles in a competitive match. Those two positions are ultimate high ground and ultimate low ground. These positions give you the best angles to get you eliminations and higher your chances at staying alive for longer.
You want to try and avoid anything in between those two positions if you can, because you will be sandwiched in between two players and there will be too many angles that you are vulnerable from. Keeping control of ultimate high ground means that you can oversee everyone in the game to get some easy shots off on moving targets while keeping yourself protected from below by the Builds you are standing on. It also means that if you are in the top two and the match comes to a heal off, you have layers of Builds underneath you to protect you from the other player shooting you.
Having ultimate low ground will allow you to work with freer space and surround yourself in your own Builds so you are less likely to be eliminated by someone editing a wall. You will be able to rotate with the Zone a little bit easier because you can run along the natural terrain and only worry about above you and to your sides. Low ground is also the next best position to be in for a heal off.
Use the Arena to practice! Arena is the closest game mode you will get to “Cash Cup” tournaments or any tournaments at all. If you practice our tips in Arena, it will without a doubt prepare you even better for your tournament matches.
I know game modes like Box Fighting, Zone Wars, Aim Trainers, Editing Courses, and 1v1 Build Battles may seem helpful, and they are for improving your mechanical skills! But practicing in an actual competitive game will help you far more than any other game modes out there. You need to practice in online games so you can improve your skills while remaining knowledgeable about the randomness of Battle Royale matches. Remember it is impossible to replicate what will happen during an actual game without being in an actual game! The more experience you have in online competitive matches the better you will perform in tournaments and the closer you will get to earning some prize money.
So, we gave you all our information and strategies you need to achieve a high placing in the “Console Solo Cash Cup”, now it’s up to you to take these strategies in game and start practicing.
Remember to play for Placement Points, think strategically, choose your Eliminations wisely, and practice as much as you possibly can.
We hope that our tips have helped you with your gameplay, thank you for reading and best of luck with your tournament matches!
