In the midst of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, Epic Games has brought in a big update to spice things up as we approach the end of the season. The Most Wanted event gives players the opportunity to earn special rewards, through playing with the new gameplay features implemented in Battle Royale and Zero Build.
The rewards are obtained by completing special Most Wanted quests and obtaining “Infamy”, a new currency created specifically for the event. We’ll cover what quests you’ll need to complete, and the best ways to do them in-game.
Quest System
For the Most Wanted event, there are 5 sets of quests, all with a different theme related to the overall “heisting” style of the event. These sets are:
- Intel and Recon
- Going in Loud
- Going in Quiet
- Cracking the Vault
- Clean Getaway
At the beginning of the event, players will only have access to the “Intel and Recon” set of challenges. Players must complete enough quests to unlock the following set, until all quests have been unlocked.
Each quest rewards a certain amount of Infamy, which goes towards unlocking the various cosmetics associated with the event. If a player completes enough quests in a single set, they will receive one Cold Blooded Medallion. Collecting all five of these medallions will reward the player with the Solid Skull back bling, in addition to all the rewards obtained through Infamy.
Gameplay
The major additions to the Battle Royale Gameplay include the Heat system, the Cold Blooded vaults, and various Exotic rarity weapons, all with special effects. The majority of the Most Wanted quests are directly involved with opening and interacting with these vaults, and the various items they come with.
There are three P.O.I.s with Cold Blooded Vaults: Shattered Slabs, Brutal Bastion, and Faulty Splits. Each of these P.O.I.s have all of the new features, explained below.
Cold Blooded NPCs
At the heisted P.O.I.s, there are two types of NPCs: the boss, and the Cold Blooded Suit henchmen. To obtain the keycard to the vault, the player must eliminate the P.O.I.s respective boss, which also rewards the player with the boss’ exotic weapon.
The challenge in doing so is that the various Cold Blooded Henchmen will attempt to eliminate you as you damage the boss. Additionally, if you have a high heat level (explained later), henchmen will be more aggressive towards you.
A good strategy is to land on the outskirts of a P.O.I., looting up weapons and shields before going for the vault. Since other players will also be trying to get to the vault, they will have to deal with the henchmen and boss themselves. The key is to enter combat at the right time when your opponent will be weakened by the NPCs, but before they reach the vault. You can use the sound queues of gunshots to figure out when the other players are close to eliminating the boss.
Cold Blooded Vaults
Similar to the vaults that were introduced in Chapter 2 Season 2, these Cold Blooded Vaults appear at certain P.O.I.s, and can be opened with the vault keycard obtained by eliminating the Cold Blooded Ace. Inside these vaults, there are stashes of gold, legendary chests, and Cold Blooded Coffers, which drop the Exotic Heisted Weapons.
Additionally, there is a service computer within the vault, which has various functionalities that can be purchased using gold. This includes an automatic rift out of the vault, leading to a fast getaway after looting. A good strategy is to break all the gold pallets within the vault before using the computer, essentially paying for the service every time you pull off a heist.
Exotic Heisted Weapons
There are several new weapons introduced, all with insanely powerful effects. Simply obtaining one or two of these weapons will give you a significant advantage over your opponents, so going for these vaults is a good strategy to dominantly win games.
Heisted Accelerant Shotgun
This shotgun is effectively a Legendary Maven Auto Shotgun, with the added effect of bonus perks when dealing damage. Upon tagging a player, you gain the pepper speed effect, as well as an increase in weapon fire rate, up to 150% of its original speed.
Heisted Explosive Assault Rifle
The Exotic assault rifle works slightly differently than a typical Red-Eye Assault Rifle, since the bullets are projectile, with a slower fire rate. However, these bullets are explosive and deal significantly more damage, extremely useful for taking out vehicles and big bushes.
Heisted Run 'N' Gun SMG
This SMG shoots identically to the old Submachine Gun but includes the perk of infinite Slap Effect when simply holding the weapon. This perk is extremely useful, enabling you to perpetually sprint around the map. Combining this with the Soaring Sprints augment enables you to consistently perform low-gravity jumps, further enhancing this effect.
Heisted Blink Mag SMG
The Blink Mag SMG is similar to the Twin Mag SMG but grants the player a Zero Point Dash effective after reloading. The Zero Point Dash is not only effective for rotations, but can be used offensively to phase into boxes, ending fights quickly.
Heisted Breacher Shotgun
The Heisted Breacher Shotgun is an extremely powerful version of the Heavy Shotgun, dealing the damage of a Heavy Sniper to structures. This is insanely useful, since the Heavy Shotgun has 7 bullets in each magazine. You can do typical things a Heavy Sniper can do, such as getting a rocket in a box, but with multiple attempts.
Heat System
The heat level system is a new mechanic that is present in all of your matches. The higher the heat level, the more perks you receive. However, you also become a target to others, thus having benefits and drawbacks when increasing your heat.
You increase your heat levels through different actions:
- Eliminating players
- Open a Cold Blooded Vault
- Answer a Burner Payphone
There are four heat levels, with benefits increasing at each level.
- Level 1: Increased gold on elimination
- Level 2: Increased movement speed by 15%, and health regeneration up to 100 HP
- Level 3: Increased movement speed by 20%, and health regeneration up to 150 HP
- Level 4: Increased movement speed by 25%, and health regeneration up to 200 HP
However, the higher the heat level, the more visible you become to enemies. This means you are seen on the minimap, and you will be more visible to enemies.
Completing Quests
Now that you know exactly how the new gameplay mechanics work, how can you use them to finish your quests quickly? The majority of quests will be automatically accomplished by going for these vaults every game. This includes:
- Opening Cold Blooded Vaults
- Eliminating Cold Blooded NPCs
- Getting eliminations with Exotic Heisted Weapons
- Raise Heat Level
- Purchase the rift service from inside a vault
Our recommendation for completing the quests is to focus on the specific objectives that don’t involve the new Cold Blooded mechanics after successfully performing a vault heist. This way, you progressively complete the Cold Blooded quests, while targeting the quests that are more difficult to complete.
Go out there and have some fun with the new update and claim these free rewards!
