An In-Depth Renata Glasc Guide - The Newest Champion in League of Legends

Renata Glasc is the newest League of Legends champion. She is intended to be a very versatile support champion, making her both strong and difficult to play. If you can’t wait to play her, let’s see how we can make the most out of her in lane.

As a support player in League of Legends, I usually choose champions who can heal or shield while dealing a significant amount of damage. Things are different with Renata. You don't play her as a backup plan for your ADC, but rather for her utility and unique abilities that come in handy during fights. She is a business magnate, so you actually work with her as a business partner. Or for her, if you consider her R that turns enemies against each other.

She has an aggressive kit that allows you to establish lane dominance from the start. She has a lot of poking potential, good disengaging skills to use against tanks and junglers, and movement and attack speed buffs. She helps her allies by marking targets with her Passive for extra damage, peeling or setting-up with her CC, and “saving” champions with low HP with her W.

STRENGTHS

She is, as previously stated, extremely versatile. She can shield multiple allies, has buffs, CC, and the ability to revive champions, does some damage, and her R is unique. She gets along well with champions who can take advantage of her buffs, such as Jinx, Caitlyn, Kog'Maw, Vayne, and Twitch. She can use her Q to push enemies into Jinx and Caitlyn’s traps and she has a long-range basic attack for a support champion.

Renata is all about working with teammates. She excels in teamfights because of her engaging potential and the ability to secure kills. She scales well and has the potential to be an effective champion in the late game.

WEAKNESSES

Unfortunately, she's quite squishy, making you an easy target for an assassin. She can be killed before she can actually do anything, especially in the early game. She lacks mobility so you definitely need Flash and mobility items, and her cooldowns are extremely long for a support champion. As a result, you'll have to spend a lot of gold on ability haste items if you want to do anything with her.

Because of her unique kit, she is quite difficult to master. If you don't take your time learning how to position yourself and how to use her abilities, you'll lose the lane for your ADC in the early phase, making it difficult to properly scale with her.

Her R may appear to be invincible, but it is not. It's slow, so it's easy to dodge it in an open area, and some champion abilities, such as Yasuo's Wind Wall, Samira's Blade Whirl, or Braum's wall, can cancel it.

RUNES

She is still a new champion, and different builds are being tested with her. Some people prefer Summon Aery for her offensive or defensive W and E. Others prefer Arcane Comet because it is useful during the poking phase. Because she has a lot of CC, Glacial Augment is another option.

However, because she can be an exceptional peeling champion who can carry in a way that no other support can, I believe Guardian is the best for her. To make the most of her abilities, you can build her as a tank and work on her ability haste.

You should poke as much as possible in the lane phase and Guardian provides you with some extra shielding. Guardian also stacks with your E shield. This way, you keep your allies safe while also assisting them in pushing the lane. Conditioning boosts your MR, Armor, and shielding ability. It’s great for a peeling champion, especially if you're looking to build Locket of the Iron Solari and Frozen Heart.

Try Domination runes for the secondary path. Eyeball Collection will boost your AP and cause your Passive Ability to deal more damage to marked targets. You want to maximize your Passive Ability, especially in the lane phase. Poking is all about positioning, while Relentless Hunter is all about movement speed.

ITEMS

Renata is an Enchanter/Mage, which means she has AP scaling. Even if you should not concentrate on dealing damage, it is still a good idea to increase your E damage slightly, and the best way to do so is with Spellthief's Edge.

Later in the game, if you truly believe you need more damage, you can build Imperial Mandate for your CC abilities.

Spellthief's Edge also gives much-needed mana regen and HP. Another option is to use Relic Shield, which allows you to give your ADC some HP and gold when you kill a minion. Ionian Boots of Lucidity are a must. Remember that Renata has extremely long cooldowns, so you must reduce them in any way you can. Shurelya's Battlesong is another good item that grants 20 Ability Haste and 25% extra movement speed when using W buffs.

As I previously stated, Locket of the Iron Solari works well with Guardian runes. Not only does this item grant you MR, Armor, and ability haste, but the shield is extremely useful in the late game for the entire team. Consider Frozen Heart or Warmog's Armor if you need even more survivability. The faster you can regenerate your HP, the longer you can fight with your teammates.

Situationally you can choose Force of Nature or Anathema's Chains if you need more MR or health.

PLAYING STYLE

You should start with E for the shield and damage.Add points to this ability until you reach level 6, as it is your primary damaging ability. In the early game, focus primarily on poking enemies using your Passive Ability. Your second ability should be Q, so you can begin using CC on your opponents. This ability differs from the other grab abilities in the game because she can throw the target in any direction she wants, and if she hits another target, both are stunned. It’s also good as a disengage tool against aggressive tank engagers such as Alistar or Leona.

When you see an opportunity for a kill, use an E-Q combo, but keep in mind that your cooldowns are long and you must plan your move carefully. Cast E first to slow the target, then Q to CC it. Because the Q animation is long and has a small range, it makes sense to use it after E rather than before it. If your opponents are aggressive, grab and CC them under your turret.

Put a point in W at level 3 so you can start using your buffs on your ADC. Pay attention to lane fights and use W to your advantage. W has the ability to revive your ADC if they die under its effects. If your ADC gets a kill after being revived, they’ll stay resurrected, and your ability will be reset. However, when using Renata's W, timing is everything. If you cast it too soon, the effect will fade, leaving your ally vulnerable.

After level 6, concentrate on peeling with Q and E and add points in W to improve your buffs. Your position is crucial, so learn how to stay in front, closer to your allies. You are not Sona or Soraka, and you can’t heal or shield as they do, so staying in the back is pointless. Try to be as active as possible in fights and keep an eye out for opportunities to use your R. You can use it when your team is confidently engaging in a fight or after your allies have applied just enough CC to your enemies. If you have Amumu or Malphite on your team, you can synchronize your R with their ultimate abilities.

You can also use your R in objective fights because it is very effective in small spaces like the Dragon and Baron pits. You can prevent enemies from capturing the objective while creating an opportunity for your Jungler to steal it. Another good idea is to Flash into a group of enemies and use your R if your teammates are around. After casting R, use your Q and E to attack as many enemies as possible or to capture any that escaped.

Learn to effectively use your W on the champion you believe is more likely to guarantee a takedown, such as Yasuo or Katarina. Also, if you have an aggressive jungler, such as Ekko or Warwick, your W can assist them with ganks. And with your W buffs and E shield, Tryndamere can become invincible.

Since Renata doesn’t have much mobility, watch out for enemies such as Nautilus, Blitzcrank, and Thresh. It's difficult to escape if you're grabbed. To protect yourself, work on your positioning and learn to stay behind the minions. Against those enemies, your goal should be to poke the enemy ADC as much as possible. We have the same situation with Morgana’s Q and don’t forget about her E which can instantly cancel your abilities. Other bad matchups involve aggressive poking champions such as Xerath or supports like Soraka and Janna that can stop your abilities.

Before attempting to trade with Renata in the lane phase, gain some experience with her. Meanwhile, be cautious and make the most of your jungle gank opportunities.

CONCLUSIONS

Renata Glasc is a game-changer in the world of support players. To be honest, I never expected to see something like her R on a support champion. She is not like classic support champions, and understanding her takes time, but her kit can turn a game in your favor. As a result, I'm sure we'll see her in other lanes soon, but for now, she's an exciting champion who can spice up the game for support players.
