An Interview with Epsilon eSport's Smite Jungler Adapting: "I haven’t seen any real surprise factor"

Adapting shares his thoughts on the site.

Kennet ‘Adapting’ Ros plays the jungle role competitively in Smite for Epsilon eSports. Epsilon is a team which has played remarkably in the current split of the game, the team has yet to lose in the current split (8-0 overall at the moment) and has been known to provide the highest quality matches, no matter what team they are faced with.

In the first season of Smite, Adapting hadn’t been able to push forward into the SPL and came short in most chances to enter. He made his presence known when playing for ‘IIIII’, a team which was never able to qualify into the SPL that later disbanded. Adapting then moved on to the team ‘Potato Boys’ but again this team failed to qualify for the SPL when the opportunity had been present, removing the last chance to make a way into Season One’s Pro League. Coming back as forceful and confident as ever, Adapting finally made his way into the SPL in the second season, progressing through the Challenger’s competitive scene with ‘Panthera’, the team which would eventually be sponsored by Epsilon eSports and become a European powerhouse.

What do you think of the changes that were made recently to the various jungle camps?

Adapting: I’d say it opened up the map a lot, which is good. You know have the jungle camps spawning more frequently which adds more rotations and more diverse rotations rather than them being static. Because rotations are more diverse it’s harder to keep track of where people are, which increases the skill cap of the game as you have to be more aware of many more possible rotations.

Do you feel that any Gods became better or worse with these changes?

Adapting: Not necessarily due to the jungle changes no, I’d say some Gods became stronger and some weaker due to how the game is now played out. It’s much harder to snowball a game than it has been previously, which favours mid-late game focused gods more than early gods.

Are there any Gods you feel should have more attention in the jungle role?

Adapting: Awilix, Arachne, Bakasura and Freya are probably a bit underrated at the moment.

What Gods (any role) apply the most pressure to junglers? What Gods help junglers the most?

Adapting: Serqet, Fenrir, Ymir, Athena and Ares apply a lot of pressure and can be difficult to deal with. Gods with a lot of pressure in their lanes (Isis, Sylv, etc), and Gods with global ultimates.

What are your feelings about the new revival feature implemented with the introduction of Khepri? Would this change your style of picking if you had access to him in a game?

Adapting: Interesting mechanic, can’t say too much about it as I don’t have any real experience playing with or against the god.

When in matches how do you make decisions to influence your game?

Adapting: Depending on what’s going on you need to know your strengths, I’m the main shot-caller and I’ll look to make a call to get us an advantage when I know we’re stronger than the opponents.

Can you see any huge meta changes coming anytime soon or do you feel it will stay as it is for a while?

Adapting: Not anything huge but I’m expecting blink to get a nerf and hog to get a buff.

What are the current goals of you and your team?

Adapting: 1st seed going into regionals and then qualifying for worlds.

Are there any teams in either region you feel could stand out and surprise others in the upcoming splits?

Adapting: Too early into the split to say, but so far I haven’t seen any real surprise factor.

How would people looking to get into the competitive scene of Smite be able to reach a point such as your own?

Adapting: Play ranked, get noticed and get picked up or make a team with players you think are strong enough to make it.

Are any changes being planned to your team? (This could be the way you pick and ban or just play as a team)

Adapting: No.

Do you have any shoutouts you’d like to make?

Adapting: Shout out to Epsilon, my team, to all the fans, Gordon Ramsay, anyone who read this and also a shameless plug! Twitch Twitter
