I got the chance to interview Sam, a challenger 3v3 and high-level Dominion player.
I got the chance to interview Sam, a challenger 3v3 and high-level Dominion player.
Ever wanted to play a game of Twisted Treeline but weren't sure where to start? Ever wonder who plays that game mode? There are actually a lot of players who play TT at a very high level, and the competition in the TT challenger scene is intense. One of the most well-known players in the Twisted Treeline scene is Sam, who is also competitive in Dominion and a Diamond 1 soloqueue player on Summoner's Rift.
He's held the top rank in the TT ladder with teammates BaBeeQ and Vsepr, and has also been on countless other challenger teams. Sam streams regularly and has been a Riot featured streamer---in short, he knows quite a bit about Twisted Treeline! I had the opportunity to ask him some questions and share his answers here.
How did you get into playing 3v3?
Sam: For some reason TT attracted me because it was different than SR and I love the design of the map.
What's the current 3v3 meta like?
Sam:
Top: Bruiser champions
Jungle : Bruiser champions
Bot: High-burst AP champions
For someone who's interested in playing 3v3, what's the best way for them to get into it? Best starting champs in each role for a beginner?
Sam: Best way to get into 3v3, I’d have to say check out my website www.3v3.gg, which has a decent amount of guides to really help you understand and get a feel for the map.
Best champions in each role for a beginner:
Top: Pantheon
Jungle: Xin Zhao
Bot: Syndra
What's your favorite role/champ to play on TT and why?
Sam: I’d have to say Lee Sin as a jungler. The versatility and damage output that Lee Sin brings to the table is amazing.
How does high-level TT play differ from lower-level play?
Sam: The snowball potential is greater and fewer mistakes. One thing that I’ve noticed in lower-level play is how long the games can last, in high level game play, the games don’t last more than 10-20 minutes long.
You've been playing a lot of Dominion recently. What is it that attracts you to the map?
Sam: It’s fast, it’s fun! Actually, I love how the gameplay is very unique capturing points and rotation in the map, which makes Dominion really interesting and fun.
As someone who's played all three maps, what do you think the best parts of each map are?
Sam:
Twisted Treeline: Snowball potential and early aggression
Summoner Rift: Strategic aspect and team reliant
Dominion: Constant scrimmages and capturing points
If you had to pick a champion to play, not knowing the rest of your team composition or the enemy team comp, or even what map you were playing on, which champion would it be? Why?
Sam: I think I’d have to pick Lee Sin, again, the versatility of Lee Sin is just way too good to not pick. And the fact that he got nerfed so many times and still reliable means Lee Sin is OP!
Thanks for the interview! Where can people follow you? Any shoutouts you want to make?
Sam: Where to follow me: twitch.tv/sam, twitter.com/3v3sam and facebook.com/3v3Sam.
