An Overview of the Best Weapon Mods in Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 brought weapon mods and attachments to the game, giving players the option to customize their weapons to their liking. These weapon mods add a wide variety of perks, buffs, and attachments to the vast pool of weapons the game has to offer. This article is going to go over some of the best weapon mods in the game currently, so you know what to look out for when looting or customizing your gun at a mod bench.

Weapon mods in Fortnite add a new dimension of gameplay that allows players to craft and customize their loadouts to their liking so they can get even more of a competitive edge over the rest of the lobby. However, the vast amount of mods and attachments that have been added to the game can be quite difficult to navigate for some players. Knowing what each mod does ahead of time cuts out all the guesswork, allowing players to swiftly craft and tailor their weapons to give them the upper hand throughout any match. Here, we are going to go over some of the best mods to look out for so that you can quickly optimize your loadout in a pinch.

Before We Get Started...

It is important to keep in mind that a lot of weapon mods and attachments in the game are situational, meaning that some mods will be better than others given a certain scenario you are in. This list is purely based on the overall value that each weapon mod gives players when it is being used. So yes, while the Laser attachment may be better for someone who likes to hip-fire SMGs, pistols, and shotguns, the Angled Foregrip gives more overall value to more weapons in the game given what the attachment offers.

Rarities and Looting

Now, before we get into some of the best mods, it’s important to know that when looting and looking for guns with good mods, the rarity of the weapon is related to how many modifications are on the gun. Common (gray) weapons have no mods on them, Uncommon (green) will have one, Rare (blue) will have two, Epic (purple) will have three, and finally Legendary weapons (gold) have a maximum of four modifications. However, it is important to note that if you bring a gun of any rarity to a vault and put attachments on it, you can add up to a maximum of four as long as you have the funds to add each attachment!

Optic Mods: Thermal Optic Scope & Sniper Scope

There are several different optic attachments that you can use in the game currently. Optic attachments modify the amount of zoom and magnification a weapon has when the player aims down the sights of the gun. However, there are two of these attachments that stand out above the rest. The Thermal Optic Scope adds a nice amount of zoom to the weapon at 2.1x magnification; however, in addition to this, it adds thermal vision when you aim down sights, as the name suggests. The Sniper Scope gives a whopping 4X magnification to your scope. However, the tradeoff here is that this scope is only compatible with rifles and the hand cannon; the scope also adds sniper glare, making it easy for other players to spot you from afar.

Magazine Mods: Speed Mag

There are only a total of two different magazine mods in the game: Drum and Speed. Out of the two, there is a clear winner that stands above the rest, and that is the Speed Mag. While the Drum Mag can be useful in some situations, like on snipers, where you may want a few extra rounds in each magazine, it slows down the reload time when it is equipped, which can be a burden to have to deal with in many different cases. The Speed Mag is hands down the superior mod, making reloads much faster compared to the Drum Mag. It can go on any weapon too, making it even more useful no matter what situation you are in.

Underbarrel Mods: Angled Foregrip & Vertical Grip

There is a large variety of different underbarrel attachments to choose from when you are looking for a weapon or modifying your loadout. While all of these are useful, there are two of them that stand out compared to the others just slightly. The Angled Foregrip is by far the best underbarrel attachment, reducing the time it takes for you to aim down sights. Aiming down sights is something that you will find yourself doing in a large variety of situations, and the faster you can do so, the more of an advantage you will have. The second attachment that is great is the Vertical Grip, which reduces the spread and recoil of your weapon when aiming down. If you find that you struggle with bloom sometimes and want that guaranteed reduced recoil, this is the best option to go for when looking for an underbarrel attachment.

Barrel Mods: Muzzle Break

Like the magazine mods, there are only two different modifications to make on the barrel of your gun: the suppressor and the muzzle brake. While having a suppressor on your barrel is nice, the muzzle brake is the overall better choice. Reducing the overall recoil of your weapon is just too valuable to pass up on when given the opportunity. Combining that with even more recoil-reducing mods can give you a deadly, accurate weapon. One thing the suppressor has going for it is that it works well on snipers. However, often, giving up reduced sound for less recoil will be favorable in the long run.

Conclusions

Weapon mods in Fortnite add a dimension to the competitive nature of the game that allows players to optimize their loadouts to their liking and give themselves an advantage throughout each match. While there certainly are better mods and attachments than others in the game, testing each one out to see how each combination feels is also a good idea to see which ones you perform the best with. Keep this article in mind next time you hop in a match and keep an eye out for the mods we went through!
