Basics to Jungle Rammus

A quick guide to begin jungling Rammus

Jungle Rammus is a potent threat, and is not played often. He is not for the greedy or the easily perturbed. Playing a champion like the armordillo requires skill, and quick wits. Rammus needs speed and raw tankiness to ride right into the enemy team and not give a flying hoot about how many he has engaged. Only that his allies are there to clean up the mess he started.

Any Rammus player should feel sorry for his opponents, for Rammus will not only defeat his opponents, but he will rip out their living guts and use them to grease the shell on his back. Rammus is never defending, he is always advancing, he makes the enemy defend. Rammus is an unstoppable force.

1. Early Game

Hunter's Machete and some pots is what you should pick on any jungler. It is always best to start with your Defensive Ball Curl (W) to deal damage to the creeps whenever you take damage. As soon as you take double buffs, either gank a pushed in lane or recall. Either way you will end up buying Quill Coat. With Quill Coat, masteries, and your W you will return large portions of damage to jungle camps. With clear time becoming relatively short you will be able to gank lanes more often. In the early stages of the game your ganks will not be very impactful unless the enemy forgot to ward. Rammus requires Mobility Boots to gank successfully almost everytime.

With Mobility Boots Rammus almost becomes immune to wards. Entering lane with such speed will deprive the enemy of a chance to escape. If you are ganking a melee champ, taunt them and drag them towards your allies. If you are ganking a ranged champion, taunt them and then hammer away with your auto-attacks. Rammus gains bonus attack damage based on his armor, making his auto-attack damage more powerful than other tanks. It also important to remember that Rammus' ult can be used to destroy turrets. With his ult you can gank a lane and quickly push a tower to press your advantage.

2. Team Fights

Rammus is chaos made manifest. He can engage the enemy and tie up a hyper carry or ADC without taking too much damage, allowing his team clean up. While providing crowd control, Rammus can also deal respectable damage with his ultimate. Postitioning in team fights is key, as Rammus will always want to deal the maximum damage with his ultimate. Against a grouped enemy Rammus doesn't need much a plan other than crashing into the enemy with Power Ball (Q) and using Puncturing Taunt (E) on a high value target. Puncturing taunt is most effectively used on the ADC, reducing their armor and causing large damage to them from their own auto attacks. Puncturing Taunt can also be used to interrupt channeled spells like a Malzahar Ultimate.

In a spread out team fight, Rammus should focus on tieing up the enemy ADC. Rammus excels against Attack Damage based enemies, especially if he has Thorn Mail. Puncturing taunt can also be used to re-group the enemy by bringing a melee champion into his team mates for better AOE damage from Rammus and his team. It can also do the opposite by further spreading out the fight or by dragging the victim straight into Rammus' team. It all comes down to the general composition of Rammus' team and game plan.

3. Build

Rammus doesn't have much of a build variation, but his build is always fun.

This is the basic build for Rammus, it tends to be the most effective in almost all situations. It increases Rammus' damage output whilst making him quite tanky. The build should end with either Randuin's Omen or Banshee's Veil. Banshee's Veil should be used against an poke heavy team, Randuin's Omen is for every other situation.

Conclusion

Rammus is not played often, but he does squeak in every once in a while. He is a tanky menace with one of the most annoying abilities in the game. His powerball also makes him one of the fastest gankers. He should never be dismissed by any player and rightly feared for his utility in team fights and tower pushing. His presence is always recognized and is the spear head that leads a team into the fray. In short, he is an aggressive and tanky jungler with superb utility.
