Best (and Worst) Support Champions to Play in 2025

While it’s technically true that any champion can help you climb once mastered, certain support champions are performing especially well this season… And others have abysmally poor win rates. Read on to learn about the best (and worst) support champions to play in 2025!

Looking to master a new Support Champion in League of Legends 2025? Whether you’ve hit a plateau in your Ranked grind or are simply looking to add some variety to your current Champion roster, you’re likely wondering which Champions are worth your time (aka late nights in the good ol’ practice tool).

While it’s technically true that any Champion can help you climb once mastered, certain Support Champions are performing especially well this season… And others have abysmally poor win rates.

Let’s check out some of the best Support Champions to play in 2025 first!

5. Thresh

Thresh isn’t a Support for the fainthearted. He is widely recognized as one of the hardest Champions to play, with plenty of complex mechanics packed within his kit. His playmaking playstyle also requires a high level of macro awareness — meaning you need both brains and reflexes to truly thrive on him.

However, for those dedicated to mastering the Chain Warden? You’ll quickly see those LP gains in no time this season. His hook and reliable CC mean he can effortlessly secure picks for his teammates, giving them ample opportunity to snowball their lanes and secure those crucial early jungle objectives.

He also has a phenomenal presence in the laning phase. He can zone the enemy ADC off their farm and EXP, initiate kill-securing fights with his level 2 powerspike, and even keep his own carry safe from jungle ganks with his lantern.

4. Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank does tend to have a fairly high ban rate in low elo; no doubt because dodging simulator isn’t everyone’s forte. However, if you’re lucky enough to secure him in Champ Select? You’re sure to climb up the ranks quickly, provided you can master his hook.

He can effortlessly secure picks for his team with his hook and CC combo, and he’s also tanky enough to serve as a frontline in those ever-frequent early game teamfights. Plus, his ultimate allows him to shred through his enemies’ defences like butter.

However, Blitzcrank’s main strength in this meta is his ability to synergize with an array of team comps. He can easily adapt his build or playstyle to align with his team’s objectives (or compensate for their weaknesses).

3. Milio

The current meta favors high mobility and engage-oriented playstyles, with Champions like Vex, Irelia, and Akali being top performers right now. So, it should come as no surprise that Milio — a Champion quite literally designed to counter mobility and hard engages — is one of the best Supports to pick up this season. His kit is also packed with plenty of utility too, with heals, shielding, and even an AoE attack range buff.

Just be mindful that Milio does have fairly long cooldowns compared to other Supports, so it’s vital you time your abilities carefully.

2. Braum

Braum hasn’t exactly seen much playtime over the years — but that’s changed in 2025. He’s now one of the most played Support Champions in the game, and he’s also maintained a consistently high win rate in both low and high elo.

His success this season is largely attributed to the fact that, like Milio, he’s an effective counter-pick against hard all-in Champions. He can interrupt their engages with his passive and Q combo and even negate any burst damage they throw out with his shield.

However, there are plenty more reasons why Braum is such a strong choice. He’s versatile, tanky enough to serve as a frontline in teamfights, and his ultimate has phenomenal pick potential.

1. Lulu

Lulu may not be as flashy as the newest ethereal mage to the game — looking at you, Yunara — but she does boast a phenomenal 51% win rate this season. Even though we’ve left Noxus and swapped the bloodied map for spiritual goodness, the meta has stayed oriented around the early game… And Lulu, who is notorious for her aggressive early game playstyle, is still reaping in those LP gains as a result.

Even outside of the laning phase, Lulu remains a phenomenal Support who can effortlessly carry the game. Her kit is packed with utility, including an effective disengage and reliable point and click CC, as well as a huge shield that she can use to protect her teammates from healthbar-destroying blows.

She can also buff up her teammates’ attack speed and damage — making her a particularly good fit with ADCs like Jinx and Kog’Maw, who have a high win rate in the current meta.

Worst Support Champions to Play in 2025

Next up, the underperformers. These Champions can work in Ranked, but you’ll be making the climb more grueling than it has to be. They lack the playstyle, early game damage, or carry potential needed to thrive in the current climate.

Yuumi

Yuumi can be a good pick for total beginners, as she’s not exactly mechanically intensive. However, she is extremely reliant on her ADC. She also can’t make much of an impact if her team falls behind.

Morgana

Morgana isn’t a bad pick by any means — her Q offers a lengthy stun, her E can negate CC, and her ultimate can be game-changing tool in teamfights. However, the recent nerfs have left her in a sorry state, and her CC isn’t as reliable (or as effective) as we would like.

Mel

Mel Support currently has an abysmally low 44% win rate. She’s fairly weak in the early game, and her lack of mobility means she’s extremely vulnerable to hard engages and burst damage (aka virtually everything that’s currently prevalent in the meta).

Supporting Your Team to Victory in 2025

Thresh, Blitzcrank, Milio, Braum, and Lulu are all solid picks in 2025. However, remember that they won’t carry you to victory by themselves.

You need to take the time to master the ins and outs of their kits, as well as learn how to play them effectively against different matchups. You also need to familiarize yourself with their optimal build paths, power spikes, and win conditions.
