Not all ganking champions are equal, and some are performing particularly well this 2025 season. Let’s “tower dive” straight in and uncover the top 5!
2025 has shifted the League of Legends meta to faster-paced matches and a focus on the early game. So, it should come as no surprise that ganking champions — who thrive in the early game (and at tilting enemies off the face of the Rift) — are truly in their element.
Of course, not all ganking champions are equal, and some are performing particularly well this season. These champions have consistently high win rates, remain viable picks in a broad range of matchups, and offer players plenty of carry potential. Below, we’ll “control ward up” these champions and uncover the “fog of war” surrounding them… i.e., We’ll delve further into their abilities, playstyles, and strengths, and discuss why they’re such great picks in 2025.
Let’s tower dive straight in! Don’t worry — I’ll cool it with the jokey Jungle lingo for now. Sorry.
As any seasoned LoL player will tell you, no ganking champion list would be complete without a mention of Lee Sin. He’s quite literally famous for being one of the strongest early game gankers in the whole game, which is precisely what you need in the current meta.
Lee Sin does have a steep learning curve, but if you’re committed to mastering his mechanics (and that nifty inSec kick)? You’ll be ganking your way to Diamond in no time. Not only does he have strong early game damage, an aggressive playstyle, and plenty of gap-closing tools at his disposal, but he can also effortlessly control his opponent's movements (and thwart their escape attempts).
While Lee Sin does fall off hard in the later stages of the game, this shouldn’t be too much of a concern. The current meta means games often end quickly, and team comps tend to be centered around early game play.
Next up is Jarvan IV, the Exemplar of Demacia… And an exemplar of what it takes to shine as a ganking champion in 2025. His kit is packed with practically everything you could possibly need to pull off effective ganks in the early game.
He boasts high mobility, plenty of CC (including a nifty slow), and hefty damage from the get-go. His E and Q combo also allows him to pull off creative gank paths (like over walls) effortlessly, and crucially, outside of his enemy’s field of view and their placed control wards.
To top it off? Jarvan’s abilities have fairly low cooldowns, which makes it easy for him to camp–ahem, pull off ganks repeatedly (and turn an overextended laner’s life into a living hell). He even boasts one of the strongest early level 2s in the game, meaning he can start his “camping” from the first few minutes of the match and apply game-changing pressure.
Just be mindful that Jarvan IV is rather squishy, especially if he builds AD. Time your engages carefully and ensure your allies are in position to follow up.
If you’re looking to make a flashy entrance (and a blood-covered exit), you’ll want to consider picking up Nocturne in 2025. He isn’t as strong in the early levels compared to the likes of Volibear and Nunu.
However, once he has some gold under his belt and hits level 6? He becomes an unstoppable assassin who can effortlessly gank any overextended opponent from anywhere.
This is primarily thanks to his ultimate: it allows him to immediately launch himself to a target while preventing their allies from seeing (and stopping) his attack in the process.
But the best part? Unlike most assassins, Nocturne is easy to pick up. He’s a great choice if you’re looking to carry without having to put in a zillion games to learning his mechanics (looking at you, Lee Sin). He also has a fast camp clear and can shred through those early game objectives easily, meaning he can easily apply pressure even outside of ganking.
Do note that he is extremely squishy and won’t serve much use to his team before level 6. If your team’s win condition is dependent on snowballing in the early levels, you may want to consider locking in a different Jungler at champ select.
If the mention of Lee Sin sends shivers down your spine, you’ll be pleased to hear about Volibear. He’s currently one of the best ganking champions in 2025 for beginners. His kit is easy to master, he’s tanky enough to allow for some misplay, and he still has all the tools and damage needed to pull off ganks in the early game.
He’s also phenomenal in early level duels due to his passive and health-granting W ability. Even if the Jungler attempted to counter his ganks and contest, they wouldn’t stand a chance; he’d outlive them and take their life (and/or summoner spells) while he’s at it.
Plus, once he hits level 6 and unlocks his ultimate? He can easily pull off tower dives. This makes him a great pick into tower-hugging farming champions (and low-elo players who often disrespect his powerspike).
Volibear is versatile and can be played into an array of comps and matchups. He can also stay relevant even if he falls behind, as he can opt to go tank and serve as the frontline for his team. That said, be aware that he is countered hard by grievous wounds, so play strategically if your opponents start rushing to build this debuff.
Yep, Nunu has left the disco scene and is now one of the strongest ganking Junglers around. He’s particularly benefited from the changes that hit the Rift in 2025, and it’s not hard to see why.
The new Jungle paths provide him plenty of ways to snowball into lane, giving the enemy team fewer means to prepare and react to his ganks. He can also pull off early-level ganks easily (and repeatedly) without sacrificing too much in the process. This is primarily thanks to his high mobility and Q ability, which grants him high sustain early on.
Nunu’s W also grants a reliable source of CC, and he can easily time this with his allies' CC to create an unbreakable CC chain. This ensures his ganks virtually always come with a high payoff (aka a kill or a blown summoner spell). Plus, this ability is especially useful in the current meta, where the emphasis is on crowd control and those early game teamfights.
Nunu's early Jungle camp clear also allows him to easily (and quickly) rotate to assist allies around the map and apply global pressure. However, be careful when you’re up against disengage champions; they can easily disrupt his W and hinder his ganks. Aim to time your ganks when their abilities are on cool down.

Ganking is a fun playstyle that is seeing much success this 2025 season, and the champions above have maintained a consistently high win rate despite various patch changes.
While each champion excels at ganking, choosing which one to pick up will ultimately depend on your preferred playstyle. For instance, Volibear can be a great choice for beginners who want a lil more security, while Lee Sin can be great for those who wish to hard carry with flashy mechanics. Play each one in practice tool to find out which you mesh best with.
