With Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 1, Epic Games has shaken up the competitive scene with their new addition of Augments. This article will choose the best Augments for the IGL and the Fragger of the team with some honorable mentions for those who like to mix it up for their own playstyle.
Firstly, to discuss why an Augment may be good for each role, we must understand them.
IGLs are the “in-game leaders” and are responsible for coordinating team tactics, strategies, and movement. They are the shotcallers of the team.
Fraggers are the player whose job is to engage the enemy and stay on the lookout for eliminations. In the endgame, they pick-off opponents on the edge of the zone and their mobility with the team is fluid as they can completely detach themselves from the team to get more eliminations.
Both roles have a relationship synonymous with Yin and Yang. Although they are contradictory in what they do, they complement each other and make up for where the other lacks.
Two Holo-Chest keys are granted to the player.
Pros: Two keys are required to obtain a gold Havoc Shotgun, which is arguably the most vital weapon to have in the game. Even if you already have good loot, you can unlock extra heals or a Sword for mobility.
Cons: It never hurts to have extra keys.
The player gains the ability to deploy their glider.
Pros: If you are unlucky and do not find a Kinetic Sword or ODM gear for mobility, this Augment is a great third option.
Cons: With the new update, pulling out your glider is delayed, which can make it easier for enemies to track your movements. Be aware of your surroundings when using this Augment.
Nearby chests are marked the first time you enter a POI.
Pros: Seeing the chests in a POI gives you the chance to loot more efficiently and can also let you know whetehr a team was at the POI or not.
Cons: Unfortunately, it does not mark the players at the POI you enter. However, if you see the chests are looted, that may hint that an enemy is nearby.
Weapons using shotgun ammo have a chance to not consume ammo.
Pros: Considering the small magazine size of shotguns, having an extra bullet or two can mean the difference between life and death.
Cons: It's hard to know when the Augment is used or how often it procs, as the chance is not explicitly stated.
Weapons using light ammo reload faster.
Pros: The faster reload speed comes in clutch when having spray battles, breaking builds, and overall gunplay.
Cons: It is hard to tell the true effectiveness of this Augment depending on which weapon you use.
The player receives a Pizza Party and three Chug Splash cans.
Pros: The Augment will restore health and shields up to 150 HP. With luck and clever planning in the end-game, this perk allows you to tank the Storm with hopes of getting better positioning to get quick eliminations and potentially the Victory Royale.
Cons: Finding the proper timing to use this Augment is the most challenging part. If you are not careful, you may use it down and leave yourself vulnerable to enemies.
The player gets a brief icy speed boost after sliding.
Pros: With the limited number of mobility options, this Augment is perfect for rotating downhill and just getting from point A to point B faster.
Cons: If not practiced enough, the slide mechanic may be more of a hinderance than a benefit. It is very easy to accidentally slide to far and end up in a sticky situation.
The player receives a Charge Shotgun and a Flintknock Pistol.
Pros: These two weapons are perfect for off-spawn fights or if you're unable to find decent loot.
Cons: The Charge Shotgun and Flintknock Pistol are niche weapons that require different skills to use to their full potential. They are not for the impatient or faint of heart.
Medium ammo weapons have increased magazine size.
Pros: All weapons that use rifle bullets will get a ten percent increase in magazine size.
Cons: If you do not use a Red-Eye or Havoc Assault Rifle, this Augment would be an eyesore on the selection menu.
Although RNG determines whether you may roll these Augments, it is good to have at least one equipped when playing. It may take some time but finding the ideal four Augments to match your playstyle will elevate your gameplay and push you to do your best. When it comes to making plays, it is good to keep in mind your team is not the only one that has access to Augments.
