Best Solo Carry Champions in League of Legends

It’s time to carry your allies on your back! Read on to learn about the best solo champions this season.

League of Legends is a team-oriented game. In theory, this means you’ll have your allies to support you in your matches. They’ll protect you from health-bar destroying damage, cover for your misplays, and help you reach your champion’s full potential (and ultimately take down the Nexus).

But in practice? The reality is… Quite the opposite. More often than not, relying on your teammates can leave you looking at the gray screen of death. This is especially the case in low elo, where players have a tendency to tilt and bash heads, and lack the knowledge to understand exactly how to synergize and coordinate effectively with other champions.

As the saying goes: “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” By choosing a solo carry champion this season, you’ll be able to carry your team to victory in every game, no matter whether they’re there to support you or not. Plus, you’ll look like a total god with your flashy, lethal plays and 1v5 antics (and let’s be real: that is more satisfying than any “Victory” screen).

So, it’s time to carry your allies on your back! Read on to learn about the best solo champions this season.

4. Malphite

Malphite may be a tank… And quite literally built like a tank, but don’t let that mislead you into thinking he can’t carry a game. He’s in an especially strong spot after the latest buffs.

So, what gives Malphite his “solo carry” edge despite being a tank? The fact that his kit is also packed with everything he could need to secure kill after kill. He can chase down low-health enemies with his Q, dish out hefty AoE damage, and negate the enemy carry’s own damage thanks to his E and passive.

His ultimate is also one of the most reliable (and hard-hitting) engage tools in the game. If he times it right, he can turn practically any teamfight in his favor — even if his allies are behind.

His ultimate also allows him to easily set up ganks throughout the game, lock down the enemy ADC, and disrupt the opposing team’s positioning at key objectives. He can even use his ultimate as a disengage tool, allowing him to decimate health bars and dip out before he’s punished.

3. Katarina

Katarina does take plenty of practice due to her mechanical complexity. However, once you’ve mastered her mechanics (and flashy combos)? She’s one of the deadliest assassins in the game.

She deals a ton of damage from the get-go, can dip in and out of fights to decimate health bars without getting locked down, and can wipe out multiple targets at once if she resets her attacks. She also has a significant power spike as soon as she has a single item under her belt. This allows her to dominate those crucial early game skirmishes.

To top it off? She also has phenomenal roaming potential. Even if she falls behind in farm, she can establish a lead elsewhere through effective ganks, tower dives, and picks, ultimately snowballing herself (and her teammates) to victory. She is the epitome of a 1v5 killing machine.

2. Blitzcrank

Yes — being a 1v5 killing machine isn’t the only way to solo carry your games… And Blitzcrank is living proof of this (well, as much as a steam golem can be “living”). When played right, he can destroy the opposing team’s mental, get his ADC ahead, and turn any fight in his team’s favor. He can also secure picks with ease, no matter how slippery his target is.

The main reason for this? His dreaded hook and CC combo. His hook’s long range and speed allow him to catch out any enemy the moment they make even the slightest misstep. Since his hook can pass through terrain, he can also pull off creative angles and catch his target by surprise. This gives him phenomenal playmaking potential, and it also applies pressure the moment he disappears from the map.

Blitzcrank isn’t all “hook” and no substance, though; he also has plenty of other ways to carry his team. He can serve as a tanky frontline in fights, use his ultimate to decimate his enemies’ defenses, and also carry out cheesy roams thanks to his W.

1. Ashe

Ashe is one of the oldest ADCs in the game, though her kit still holds up well today — and there’s a reason for this: It’s versatile and has all you need to carry your games (and whether or not you have a support to peel for you).

She particularly excels in the early game thanks to her long-ranged poke and empowering Q ability. Very few ADCs can match up against this harass. She can play aggressively from a safe distance, apply pressure, and whittle away at her opponent’s health bar whenever they attempt to last hit. Even if she doesn’t manage to rack up a kill, she can still punish the enemy ADC by zoning them off their farm.

Her lane prowess isn’t the only reason she’s solo carry material, though; she also has a ton of utility that can serve her in practically every stage of the game (and no matter if she’s fallen behind). She can slow targets with her passive, scout out the enemy jungler with her Hawkshot, and make global plays with her ultimate stun. Best of all? She’s fairly easy to pick up yet offers limitless potential, allowing her to be appreciated by both low elo and high elo players alike.

Climbing the LoL Ladder “Solo”

Each champion has their unique strengths, and it’s important to select your new “solo carry” main based on your role and typical playstyle. For instance, if you prefer to carry as a playmaker and prefer the support role, then you’ll want to check out Blitzcrank rather than the likes of Katarina, who would be much better suited to a bloodthirsty mid main.
