Best Supports to Play in 2025

Season 2025 is a whole new territory… A bloodied, dark, Noxian one at that! However, picking up one of these support champions will help make your ranked journey easier.

The new Noxian-inspired season has finally hit the Rift! And so far? It’s made a huge impact on the pace of games, the meta, and well, even the map itself! Navigating the new changes can be pretty overwhelming, and you no doubt are wondering which champions are worth playing this season.

While Riot is still carrying out some fine tuning, and I expect plenty more changes to come, there are a few champions that seem to be performing exceptionally well so far. Today, I’ll focus on the support champions (aka the true carries of the game). I’ll discuss their playstyles, strengths, and what makes them great picks for the 2025 season.

5. Janna

Janna might not have the flashiest of mechanics, but she does pack a whole load of mobility and a kit that allows her to thrive in the 2025 season. Not only does she have a reliable harass and disengage tool to keep her ADC safe during laning phase, but her high mobility means she can easily rotate to help her jungler with early game objectives, like the new melee monster Atakhan.

Her hefty shielding also means she can keep her allies’ health bars topped up in critical fights — long enough to dish out the killing blow. Her AoE ultimate is also versatile and can serve as a great playmaking tool when used correctly. She can use it to disrupt the enemy team’s positioning, peel a low-health ADC, and even stop objectives from being stolen.

While she has plenty of strengths, just be mindful that Janna's kit is slightly more reliant on her teammates than other supports featured here. However, she still serves as a great all-round pick in 2025, especially if you have a trusty duo partner to join you on the climb.

4. Lulu

Lulu’s win rate took a bit of a hit last season, but I’m glad to say that the new season changes have brought her back to her glory days!

Her early game harass, combined with her mobility and utility-packed kit, allow her to dominate the laning phase and give her jungler that much needed assistance in the mid game. Her polymorph W ability is also excellent at disrupting ganks and CC.

When played right, Lulu can even turn her ally into an immortal-like entity. And by that, I mean she can sustain them long enough in fights to secure kill after kill. This is especially the case as she levels up her ultimate.

That said, Lulu does lack genuine sustain. Once her shielding is down, she’s exceptionally squishy and vulnerable to the enemy’s damage. Avoid spamming her abilities and use them wisely, especially in the early game when your mana is low.

3. Thresh

Thresh is a champion who survives through practically any game change. Even despite the 2025 updates, he’s still an incredibly strong pick and has maintained a high win rate. The only catch? He’s incredibly difficult to master. However, if you’re determined to put your all into learning his kit, then plenty of “GG” honors are sure to come your way.

Thresh is an effective playmaker who can adapt to virtually any team comp and carry his team to victory. His hook allows him to secure picks, his lantern lets him save even the most overextended teammate, and he’s sturdy enough to bear the brunt of the enemy team’s attacks. He’s also mobile and can roam around the map, meaning he can help set up ganks or assist the jungler with objectives.

Thresh remains useful regardless of the game state or whether his team falls behind. However, as I touched on above, you will need to practice with him a lot before you start to carry your games on him.

2. Nami

Nami offers the best of both worlds (or I should say seas): She’s an aggressive support who can still play defensively when the game state calls for it. Her poke is particularly obnoxious in the early game, allowing her to easily punish the enemy ADC’s attempts to farm or retaliate against her own ADC. Her W mechanic also means she’s penalized less for misplays as she can heal herself back up if a trade goes poorly.

What makes Nami a particularly strong pick in 2025 though is that she thrives in the mid game. This is thanks to her long-ranged AoE ultimate, which gives her fantastic kill pressure and allows her to turn the tide (literally) in those critical objective teamfights.

Nami does lack mobility and is more vulnerable to all-ins than other champions. If you’re considering picking her up in 2025, be sure to take the time to practice your positioning and hone your map awareness. Otherwise, you may be looking at the gray screen of death rather than LP.

1. Leona

Considering this meta seems to be geared to fast-paced games, I feel that Leona is definitely a support to add to your roster in 2025.

Leona is a tank support with one of the most aggressive level 2 all-ins in the game — and it’s especially effective in low elo, where players rarely respect her damage. When her level 2 engage (the Q and E combo) is played right, she can almost always secure a kill or blow through a few summoner spells, leaving the opposing ADC at a huge disadvantage for the rest of the game.

She also has plenty of other great aspects that make her a solid all-round support. She’s exceptionally tanky, allowing her to peel reliably or even serve as a frontline in fights. Her AoE ultimate is also a game-changing teamfighting tool. She can stun multiple enemies at once, giving her team ample time to collapse and decimate them.

Leona is simple to pick up, making her an ideal option for players who struggle with mechanics. However, she is vulnerable against ranged champions. Position defensively and wait until their abilities are down before making a trade.
