Best Top Laners to Play in LoL 2025

Looking to expand your top lane champion roster? Read on to find out which champions are worth picking up this season!

In the good ol’ days, the top lane used to be the infamous island, where the introverts of the LoL community would go to solo it out and… farm while their base was being destroyed. But since the 2025 changes? Even the most introverted of top laners is forced to play as an extrovert, and the meta and the best Champions to play in the role have changed with it too.

Jokes aside, the best top laners to play in League 2025 are generally Champions with strong early games, good roaming potential, and flexible kits that can adapt to the game state and team comp. With these qualities in mind, here are the Champions you should consider adding to your roster this season.

1. Fiora

First up is Fiora, aka the grand duelist whose tongue is as sharp as her sword. Fiora’s kit can be tricky to master, but if you’re dedicated to honing her blade (aka mastering her mechanics)? You’ll be rewarded with plenty of LP this season.

When played right, Fiora can effortlessly carry 1v1s and 1vs5s alike. Her kit is packed full of damage, playmaking potential, and phenomenal sustain. Thanks to her parry ability, she is even able to negate hard CC and all-ins and turn them in her favor — a huge perk, considering CC is dominating the meta right now. Her true damage granting passive also enables her to slice through even the tankiest opponent like butter (or in the case of Fizz, sushi).

2. Kayle

Yep, believe it or not, Kayle is thriving in this new early game meta despite her late game reputation. This is mainly due to changes such as minion wave adjustments, earlier Homeguards, and new gameplay features like blood roses.

In short: she’s able to reach her power spikes a whole lot quicker and become a viable threat as soon as it hits mid game. She can shred both opponents and objectives with ease due to her scaling passive, long attack range, and bonus damage-granting E ability.

But the best part about Kayle? Even if you fall behind on her, she can still be a great asset to her team. Her ultimate, which grants invulnerability, can also be cast on an ally of her choice. This means she can help another carry take charge if she can’t dish out the damage to carry directly herself.

3. Quinn

Let’s be real: Quinn has been in a sorry state for the past few years. She was pretty neglected by the Riot balancing team and didn’t have much of a spot in the previous tank-dominant meta. However, the new season, with its emphasis on assassination and good ol’ bloodshed, has allowed Quinn to soar.

She can gain a lane advantage quickly thanks to her infuriating long ranged harass and her high early damage output. Her Q ability, which hinders the target’s vision, also allows her to easily disrupt her opponent’s attempts to farm or retaliate against her attacks. And once she’s decimated their health bar (and willpower) and gained a lead? She can use her ultimate to roam and snowball her other teammates to victory.

If you're considering picking up Quinn, just be mindful that she is vulnerable against hard CC and all-ins. You should focus on gaining your lead through roams, securing picks, and split pushing.

4. Aatrox

Aatrox has always been a phenomenal lane bully, and he’s only continued to thrive with the latest season changes. His kit is packed with damage, his passive mechanic allows him to win those early-level trades with ease, and he has plenty of utility at his disposal. His E also makes him highly mobile and able to weave in and out of fights, giving him great playmaking potential too.

However, the main reason why Aatrox has secured a spot here is because of his mid game dominance. Once he maxes out his Q and has a few points in his ultimate, he gains a significant power spike and becomes an unstoppable force that very few Champions can contest.

Just be mindful that Aatrox’s mechanics and combos can be difficult to master, so he’s not a Champion for the faint-hearted. You’ll need to put in a lot of practice, time, and dedication into him if you want to pick him up this season.

5. Warwick

Warwick may have had his roots in the jungle, but he’s become one of the strongest top laners around this season. Take a close look at his kit, and it’s not hard to see why: His Q grants him beefy sustain in lane, his W allows him to effortlessly roam (and assist with those critical mid-game objectives), and his ultimate has phenomenal pick pressure. His kit is also easy to master despite its high payoff, making him apt for both beginners and high elo players alike.

Warwick is a versatile Champion who can thrive in practically any role. He can serve as a tank in skirmishes and take the brunt of the enemy’s damage, or even split push to apply global pressure and allow his teammates to get ahead.

While Warwick can serve as a great, well-balanced Champion, just be mindful that he needs to get a lead early on to reach his full potential. Without enough farm under his belt (or fluff), he lacks damage and can really only serve as a tank.

Mastering the Top Lane

Mastering the top lane in League starts with picking the right Champions — Fiora, Kayle, Quinn, Aatrox, and Warwick are all fantastic options in the current meta.

Which one you ultimately pick will depend on your preferred playstyle and level of commitment. For instance, if you’re not interested in mastering complex mechanics, you’ll want to avoid Champions with high skill ceilings like Fiora and Aatrox. If you love to roam and secure picks, you’ll likely enjoy high-mobility Champions such as Quinn.
