BF4 Support Class Overview

General overview of the Support Class.

The Support class gives access to a lot of heavy weapons great for giving covering fire, defending objectives and assaulting the enemy team. This class is also capable of dropping ammunition packs, providing your team with a constant supply of ammo so no one is running empty. It means that if you're playing the support class you have to pay attention to requests, make sure you keep your team stocked up when they need it. If you are pinned down or defending an objective throwing down an ammo pack amongst the group will get you lots of points and give you a better chance of surviving and holding the objective.

The machine guns that the Support has access to are powerful weapons which allow you to battle from any range you wish. The class can instantly switch between positions to best suit the situation of the battle. Also you can't really run out of ammo because you can just keep providing yourself with it. Playing as the Support class means you have to have good map and team awareness. It is up to the Support to provide covering fire, defend objectives and support your team with resupplies. You need to pay attention to where your team is grouped, which objectives are being assaulted by the enemy team and assess where you are most needed.
Support starts using LMGs; the first weapon is the U-100 MK5, an incredibly stable, high rate of fire weapon great for providing suppressing fire. The higher damage LMGs all have lower stability and so using a suitable grip is highly recommended. This class also has access to Carbines, Shotguns and DMRs.

Gadgets for the Support class are generally used for setting up traps, providing covering fire and holding objectives. As in other games this class still has access to C4 so you can blow up vehicles, buildings and people, but you'll be sad to know it's not unlocked until you have 134,000 Support score :( However, you do get access to some other awesome gadgets to help you control the battlefield, the ammo pack and XM25 AIRBURST being the first two. The ammo pack is pretty self-explanatory and it's highly recommended to keep it or an ammo box, which provides resupplies of ammo for all weapons, grenades, gadgets and explosives, equipped all of the time to help your team and avoid any awkward deaths where you've run out of ammo. The XM25 AIRBURST is great for killing enemies under cover, it fires 25mm grenades that can explode in mid-air; so you aim down the sights at cover and it will lock onto that, when fired the grenade will then explode 3 metres beyond that point. Next unlock is the XM25 SMOKE, it works in the same way as the AIRBURST, it explodes 3 metres past the locked distance but it fires smoke grenades for providing cover for your team. The XM25 DART is basically a semiautomatic shotgun, it fires 25mm fletchette filled cartridges that pretty much provides you with a third weapon for close range combat.

Once you reach 7000 Support score you'll unlock the M18 CLAYMORE. This is an anti-personnel mine, once it is deployed it launches three trip wires, if someone breaks a trip wire the mine will explode. You have to make sure you place it somewhere where the trip wires can be launched to, if there are no trip wires the mine needs to be replaced. This particular gadget is perfect for setting up in doorways and on stairs, setting a trap for anyone wanting to camp in a building or set them up around objectives. The M224 MORTAR is next up after the ammo box, great for controlling the battlefield from a distance. Once set up the M224 MORTAR fires remote-controlled 60mm explosive rounds that use a terrain grid targeting system. Be careful when firing as the shells will explode if anything intercepts them between firing and the target. Rapid firing the MORTAR is really inaccurate but just firing a single shell is very precise. The MP-APS is a Man-Portable Active-Protection-System, it detonates incoming explosive rockets and shells from enemy infantry and vehicles. This is good for protecting yourself and team mates if you're pinned down or if you're taking/defending an objective. It's not "the one" though, it doesn't stop bullets or grenades. It can stop multiple targets in a 180 degree arc but it needs to recharge between uses, so it's not all godly. After this is C4 so you can have fun blowing up vehicles along with the Recons. Finally if you have the China Rising expansion pack you get a new toy to play with: the UCAV. This is a small reconnaissance Unmanned-Combat-Aerial-Vehicle with an explosive warhead that allows you to use it as a guided missile. Amazing for scouting and exploding things - what more could you want?

This guide should give you a basic idea of what to expect with the Support class and the different ways in which you can utilise its different guns and gadgets. Although many consider it their least favourite class in BF4 the Support class can be incredibly useful in any of the multiplayer game modes.
