Interview With CLG Red CS:GO Player - Emy

I chat with Emy from CLG Red about how her and the girls plan to improve and dominate in the future.

Emma 'Emy' Choe is a 17-year old Professional CS:GO player for CLG Red. She has been with the team since 2017. Both her and refinnej were added to the roster last year with the parting of klaudia and missharvey. CLG Red is one of the most well-known female gaming teams, even being featured on MTV in years past.

You joined up with CLG Red in 2017. How did you end up connecting with the team to be brought on and what was the initial chemistry like?

Emy: When I first joined the team in 2017, I was super inexperienced and unaware of a lot of basic CSGO knowledge. But even though that was the case, they all really made an effort to help me improve. Instantly there was a bond created with all of them since I could talk to them about any problems I had, inside and outside of the game, and it was such a nice change from just pugging or doing school work all day.

How long have you been playing CS:GO and what was the appeal to you compared to other games out there?

Emy: I started CS:GO right after Call of Duty Infinite Warfare came out, so sometime in 2016. Before CS:GO, I've never had to stop and think during a game; in COD, it’s always hectic and fast paced. It is such a nice change, and I’m so thankful that my friend Spencer recommended this game for me.

What’s it been like so far being a part of the team? Any favorite moments?

Emy: Being a part of CLG Red comes with its fair share of moments, good or bad. I love all my current and former teammates. I don’t think I have only one favorite memory of this team. I have at least 20 and that is way too much for one interview to explain it all to. My favorite memories of this team are basically whenever I get to see them. I know that sounds corny but I spend 6-7 hours a day with these girls and they’ve helped me through my darkest times with much needed talks.

How often are you and the girls playing and are there any big events coming up that people should look for you in?

Emy: I feel so bad sometimes because we could be playing more than we are, but I’m still in high school and it’s hard to work around that, plus I’m East Coast and they are all on West Coast time. But we still manage 6-7 hours a day 5 days a week. WESG is our next event, though goosey is going to be playing on a Canadian team, we still have 4 of us that are on CLG Red.

Your most recent large event that you took place in was Fragadelphia 12. How do you personally feel you and the team performed and what are your steps for improving moving forward?

Emy: Frag 12 was not our event. We weren’t playing our best but sometimes that happens and all we can do now is grind our game and look forward to the next event! Our new coach @vEzCSGO is a huge part of our improvements. He has shown so much effort and care into our practices and matches and I know with his help and guidance, we are going to do well at our future events and in our ESEA advanced matches

Do you and CLG Red have any major goals for the next year? Anything that you’d really like to improve upon? What can fans expect from CLG Red the rest of 2018, going into 2019?

Emy: For the rest of 2018 and 2019, it is our year. I feel that we are improving, and now that we picked up goosey, I can see us being more consistent than our previous years.

Do you have any tips for other young female gamers out there that maybe one day hope to attain something similar to you and the other girls of CLG Red?

Emy: Get your name out there, stream, pug a lot and make friends, play qualifiers, join female hubs, etc. As long as there is a chance that a female team can see you, they are talking about you if you got what it takes.

How do you feel about the current state of CS:GO? Is there anything you don’t like that you would like to see changed if you had the ability?

Emy: Looking at the major and the consistent 400-500k viewership almost every game is amazing. Some say that CS:GO is dying but these numbers are saying otherwise. If I was a developer though, I think implementing a new way a competitive match is played, such as giving more money on a pistol round to spice it up a bit, would make the game a lot more interesting.

What is your absolute favorite gun to use and is there one that you wish you could not let the other team ever be able to use?

Emy: My favorite gun has to be the AK-47. The satisfaction of getting a one tap is like no other and my spray is the most consistent and accurate with this gun. As for a gun that I’d wish for the other team to never use, is the AWP. It is such a game changer if someone is an outstanding AWPer, and with no nades towards the end of the round, it’s a heartbreaker.

Are there any other players or teams that you really enjoy playing against or that you look up to?

Emy: I’ve always looked up to NIP. I think it is because I watched them all the time when I first started playing CS:GO and they just gave me motivation to get better. They started out being the best team, to losing their mojo, and now back to playing on the legends stage at the major. Their resilience is what makes me a huge fan and I will always look up to the Ninjas.

When you aren’t playing CS:GO, what other things do you like to do? What types of hobbies does ‘Emy’ have?

Emy: Outside of CS:GO and school, I enjoy going snowboarding during the winter time. My brother got me into it and we drive together to shred and have fun in the terrain parks across the East Coast.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions for us! Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to?

Emy: I’d like to shoutout to @clgaming for being an amazing org and @missharvey for being such an influence on me and helping me through my difficult times, with also giving me business advice and having my back ,and of course my teammates and coach @vEzCSGO.
