Were you naughty or nice in 2014?

For the end of the 2014 year, Riot announced that they would give out a free Mystery Skin to players who had good behavior throughout the season. According to Riot, over 95% of the player base got a free Mystery Skin for basically not being toxic (being banned/chat restricted/etc). Source from RiotLyte here.

So it really pays off to not be negative/blame others while playing! Good communication and coordination wins games and gets you skins. Now, it’s random what skin you actually get from the free mystery skin: it could be a skin worth 390 RP or an Ultimate skin worth 3250 RP. May RNG always be in your favor.

But wait there’s more (free skins)!

Besides the free mystery skin however, Riot has had free skins for a couple of champions (like Tristana, Alistar, and Garen) for a long time. Some players still don’t know this. You can basically get these champions plus a skin for each on your account for free (helping you save IP for those more expensive champions).

The free skins and respective servers you can get them on are:

1. Riot Girl Tristana (NA, EUW, EUNE, OCE)

2. Unchained Alistar (NA, EUW, EUNE)

3. Dreadknight Garen (NA, EUW, EUNE, TR, BR, OCE)

4. Commando Garen (LAS, LAN)

5. Bandit Sivir (TR only)

6. Woad Ashe (BR only)

Again, here’s how it works: if you don’t have the champion yet, the skin codes from Riot add the champion and skin to your account for free.

How to get the free skins

This is how to get the free skins for players belonging to each region:

1. For Riot Girl Tristana, you have to like the League of Legends Facebook page.

2. For Unchained Alistar, you have to subscribe to Riot Games on Youtube.

Update: the links are no longer available but if you send Riot Games a support ticket then an automated bot will give you the Alistar skin for free!

3. For Deadknight Garen, you have to follow League of Legends on Twitter.

Final Words

These free promotional skins are exclusive to their respective servers. What this means is that, unfortunately, if your server isn't listed under the promoted free skin, you can't get that skin for free on your account unless you were to transfer regions (which would defeat the purpose of free skins in the end as you have to pay to transfer).

While it may seem like a hassle to get these skins, it actually takes less than 3 minutes of your time each per skin. If you don't have a Facebook, Youtube, or Twitter account, signing up for one takes less than 5 minutes (and you could always deactivate it later if you find that you don't want it afterwards).

If you have any problems with getting these skins, you can always email Riot support. They are very good with these promotions and often times just add the skin to your account for you if eligible - this is the case for me when I couldn't get Unchained Alistar. After emailing Riot, they added the skin to my account for me.
