Interview With Mira - Girlfriend Of TSM Rocket League Player Remkoe

I chat with Mira on what it's been like being the girlfriend of a professional gamer.

Mira 'Miramasa' is the girlfriend of professional Rocket League player Remco 'remkoe' den Boer who was just acquired by TSM along with EyeIgnite and Metsanauris, who were previously known as We Dem Girlz. With the lives of professional gamers being hectic and very busy, I wanted to chat with her on what it's like being with a pro gamer and how she and remkoe are able to support each other through it all. Mira is well known for being a huge fan of remkoe and the team and it definitely shows in my conversation with her.

For those that don’t know, how and when did you and remkoe meet?

Miramasa: At one time, I started browsing through the internet and found my old Twitter account. I decided to follow some new people, one of them being Remco who I remembered vaguely from some Rocket League stream +-2 years ago. We started talking on his birthday the 27th of May and there hasn’t been a day we didn’t talk since then. So much for not getting distracted. He asked me to be his girlfriend a couple of months later.

What were some initial qualities that you found attractive about remkoe?

Miramasa: I don’t remember people from streams often, so that says something. I remembered he was addressing something in that stream and that he was super direct. He doesn’t circle around issues and is always straight forward. I respect that. That, and his sense of humor which is one of a kind really.

When you aren’t watching remkoe or spending time with him, what are some things that you personally enjoy doing?

Miramasa: I’m usually pretty occupied with university right now, but if I’m not I’m usually playing competitive games like Overwatch or other more rpg kinda games like Bloodborne or other games like that. Next to that I love to walk and to read.

Being a professional gamer can be a very busy life; practice hours, going to tournaments, etc. How has remkoe’s pro gaming career impacted your life?

Miramasa: Well, when he scrims I’m usually busy with school, so we work around it really. We encourage each other to be the best version of ourselves we can be and give each other lots of space when it comes to his career and my school life. That way it didn’t really impacted my life with him being busy: we’re both very flexible and supportive.

What are some of the events that you’ve been able to watch him in and do you have a favorite of any of those?

Miramasa: I watched RLCS Season 5 in London, I attended RLCS Season 6 in Las Vegas and watched Eleague. My favorite is one is Eleague of course, because they won it. The team as a whole performed so good and I love seeing Rem happy.

Had you always been a fan of watching esports or did your relationship with remkoe bring that into your life?

Miramasa: I’m heavily into Overwatch League. I watch every game and I can’t wait for it to start again in February. Remco did bring Rocket League as an esport in my life. I didn’t watch much Rocket League before, but now I’m definitely hooked. I think it’s lots of fun and has so much potential for the future!

You refer to the whole team as “your boys” quite often – are you pretty good friends with EyeIgnite and Metsanauris as well?

Miramasa: We were spending quite some of time together with the four of us at Vegas. Since it’s a team sport every individual of the team is equally important in my opinion and I try to be as supportive as I can be. If they win a game or a series, I’m super proud of every single one of them. Eye and Metsa are both hilarious and the time in Vegas was solely good vibes. I think Remco’s super blessed to have these two skilled bois as teammates.

What was your reaction when you found out that We Dem Girlz was going to be acquired by TSM? Did you and remkoe do anything to celebrate?

Miramasa: I couldn’t be more happy. I was so proud of them and so glad all the hard work, good results and patience paid off. Since I knew what was going on, there wasn’t really an exact celebrating moment.

How often are you and remkoe able to get out and do things together that aren’t gaming related? Do you guys have any favorite things to do together?

Miramasa: We make sure to always make time to see each other. We listen to the same music, so we visit concerts and we game together. We also have a lot of typical McDonalds dates together, where we drive up to it at night, - 1AM 2AMish - and just eat as much as we possibly can.

Would you say there are any differences between a “normal” relationship and a relationship with a professional gamer?

Miramasa: It’s definitely different, starting off that I had to tell my kinda old-fashioned dad (here’s to hoping he doesn’t read this, oopsie) that my boyfriend plays a game for a living. Luckily he understands now and he loves Remco as much as I do. Next to that you always have to take into account that he has to scrim almost every evening, so it’s difficult for him being multiple days away from home.

Where do you see both of you a year from now? Do you guys have any relationship goals for 2019?

Miramasa: Hopefully we’re both still healthy and happy. I hope Remco’s still competing at the level he is now, and I hope to be halfway of my second masters a year from now. We don’t have any relationship goals really.

As a final, fun question – it’s no secret that remkoe and Turbo are pretty close. Do you ever get jealous of the relationship they have?

Miramasa: I accepted the fact Pierre is literally Remco’s boyfriend.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some questions for us! Is there anyone that you would like to give a shoutout to?

Miramasa: I’d like to give a shout out to this whole community. There was never a second I didn’t feel welcome and I met some wonderful people which I’m really grateful for :)

Be sure and follow Mira below to keep up with her and remkoe!
