A League Guide to Tank and Fighter Mythic Items

A guide into the new tank and fighter mythic items for Season 11!

Season 11 of League of Legends has brought some big changes with items. They change how we play the game and make no two games the same. Today, we’ll be looking into the changes for those who frontline for us. Tanks and Fighters are both an essential class of champions that can be your team’s success in fights and these new items for the bullet sponges and bruisers of the Rift give them some new and some old ways to fight and be the shield for the team. Today, we’ll go over the Mythic and Legendary tank and fighter items being added to the game.

Turbo Chemtank (Tank)

We’ll begin with the Mythic tank items this season and we’ll start with the one that is taking over the Rift for tank junglers. This new item grants 20 ability haste, 25 armor and magic resist and 350 additional health. Its passive is Immolate, which you will see among all the other Mythic tank items. This passive becomes active for three seconds after you are taking or dealing damage. If either case happens, you will deal 12-30 magic damage based on your level, plus a 1% bonus health damage to every enemy within 325 unit range. This passive’s damage is increased by 25% when you’re against minions and 150% when you’re against monsters in the jungle.

This item’s active is the bread and butter the makes this item so powerful. The active, Supercharged, grants you a 75% bonus movement speed buff for four seconds. It also provides you with ghosting, which will prevent you from colliding with other units like minions. This will only happen though if you are chasing down an enemy champion that is visible or chasing down a turret. After the four seconds is over or you are within 225 range of an enemy champion, a shockwave will activate. This shockwave will slow enemy champions within a 450 unit range by 40% for 1.5 seconds. Finally, the item’s Mythic passive gives all of your other Legendary items an additional 5 ability haste.

This item is perfect for those champions whose kit is to run straight at you. Champions like Udyr, Skarner and Rammus fit this category extremely well. Combine the speed boost of the Turbo Chemtank with a rune like Predator and you’ll be flying into team fights looking to disrupt and frontline. Use this in the mid game as best you can to disrupt the enemy team. Find isolated targets and chase them down. When it comes to the teamfight, use the active to run in and find the best target to attack, be it a bot or mid laner. The item’s ability to chase down a target and dive into the enemy team to disrupt and tank damage is second to none.

Sunfire Aegis (Tank)

Now we move onto the tank Mythic items that should be familiar to all League players. The once known Sunfire Cape has now become the Sunfire Aegis. This newer version of the Sunfire Cape brings with it 15 ability haste, which is 5 smaller than the Turbo Chemtank, but offers more damage resistance with 30 armor and 30 magic resist, with the bonus health at 350. As previously stated, Immolate is part of every tank Mythic passive.

However, it works differently with each Mythic. For the Sunfire Aegis, you still deal the bonus magic health damage within a 325 range, but for this item, you deal 25% increased damage against minions and 100% against monsters. Unlike the Turbo Chemtank, whenever you deal damage with enemy champions or monsters, you are granted a stack for five seconds. These stacks increase the Immolate damage by 10% per stack, granting you up to 60% increased Immolate damage. This goes into the item's unique passive, Flametouch. At maximum stacks, your basic attacks explode, burning nearby enemies for three seconds. The Mythic passive for this item grants you 5% tenacity and 5% slow resist.

This item is great for tanks that want to pressure their lane and deal good amounts of damage when it comes to fighting. The stacks help you not only frontline for your team, but also help with dealing damage. Furthermore, the burning effect from Immolate with this Mythic item really helps those tank champions that don’t have as strong of a wave clear as other champs.

Frostfire Gauntlet (Tank)

The final Mythic item for the tanks we will be going over, the Frostfire Gauntlet is an old friend to many a summoner. Previously known as the Iceborn Gauntlet, this item revamp brings some changes with it. It grants 20 ability haste and 25 armor and 25 magic resist and 350 health, the same stats as the Sunfire Aegis. It also copies the same stats with the Immolate passive, but it brings a whole different unique passive, Snowbind. This is basically the same passive with the Iceborn Gauntlet Icy Zone, but instead of the frozen cone dealing damage and slowing, it slows the target by 25%, which increase by 4% 1000 maximum health for one and a half seconds. The mythic passive will grant all your other legendary items 100 health and a 6% increase in size.

Much like the Iceborn Gauntlet, this item’s main purpose is to create a field of frost that will make it easier for you and your team to attack a target. Unlike Iceborn Gauntlet, the Snowbind passive works with basic attacks instead of abilities, making it easier for you to create the frost field. The bonus 100 health you gain with each Legendary is also a bonus, especially for meaty tanks like Cho’Gath and Ornn.

Trinity Force (Fighter)

Let us now get into the Mythics for the fighters of the rift. We’ll start off with the one that everyone is familiar with, Trinity Force. Tri-Force has gone through a big overhaul, now coming with 20 ability haste, 25 attack damage, a 35% increase in attack speed and additional 200 health, taking away the mana and the base 5% increase in move speed. That 5% from the old Trinity Force is now moved into the Threefold Strike passive. With this new passive, if the target you attack is a champion, it increases your base attack damage by 6%, which stacks all the way up to 30%, or 5 times. The other passive, Spellblade, gives your next basic attack 200% base AD bonus physical damage, which has a short cooldown of 1.5 seconds after using your empowered basic attack. Finally, the Mythic passive gives the rest of your Legendary items 10% bonus attack speed.

This item works very well for champions that rely on champions that rely on auto attack their targets. Irelia, Jax and Camille are prime examples. Each one needs to have strong auto attacks to deal damage for their team. It also works well for champions like Darius, who can use the bonus movement speed to move fast around the enemy team and cause chaos.

Divine Sunderer (Fighter)

Now we move onto the new Mythic items for fighters and the first one we will dive into is the Divine Sunderer. This Mythic offers 20 ability haste, 40 attack damage and 400 health. Its passive is Spellblade, but it works differently than it does with Trinity Force. With Spellblade on Divine Sunderer, after you use an ability, your next auto you deal within 10 seconds deals 10% of the target’s max health as bonus AD on-hit. The minimum bonus AD is 150% and the max at 250%. If you target a champion, you also heal for a percentage of the bonus damage delt, 50% for melee champions and 30% for ranged champions, with the Mythic passive granting your Legendaries 5% armor and magic penetration.

This item was made for tank busting. Put it with champions that can easily deal damage to their opponents, like Pantheon and Renekton, who can close the gap with their abilities. You should only use this item against tank heavy compositions, as there are much better Mythics for fighters against other, less tanky compositions.

Stridebreaker (Fighter)

The next Mythic we will go over is the Stridebreaker. This item grants its champion with 20 ability haste, 45 attack damage, 20% bonus attack speed and 300 health. The passive for the item grants you bonus movement speed for two seconds after dealing physical damage. The active for the ability allows its user to dash in a targeted direction for up to 200 units. You also slow enemies in front of you within a 100 unit radius by 60% for two seconds, allowing you to gap close more easily. The Mythic passive grants your legendries a 3% bonus move speed buff.

This item works well for champions that need to gap close. Champions like Darius and Garen shine with this item, as the dash and slow allows them to get their targets easier than ever before. One thing to know however, is that this item does not dash through non-player made terrain, so make sure you can dash your target in the open.

Gordrinker (Fighter)

The final Mythic item for fighters and the most powerful one, Goredrinker can be a lifesaver in a teamfight. This item grants 20 ability haste, 45 attack damage, 400 health and 150% base health regen. The passive grants you bonus attack damage based on missing health. The lower your HP gets, the stronger you become. For the active, you deal a slash in a 400 unit area. The slash deals 100% AD physical damage and heals you for 8% of your missing health for each champion hit within the slash. You also gain bonus attack damage based on your missing health and the Mythic passive gives each of your Legendaries 5 ability haste.

This item is perfect for fighters that want to get into a fight and sustain themselves while doing so. Champions like Tryndamere, Darius and Renekton fit this bill perfectly. It also can be used with jungle champions like Kayn and even Lee Sin. Use this item’s active for the teamfights and make sure you are close to the enemies, as the more you ensnare in your slash, the more health you get back.

Conclusion

These items change how the top lane plays in many ways. You could go the traditional tank build with the tank Mythics, or you could go wild with the new fighter Mythics, making them stronger than ever before. Each item for these classes is built to deal with a specific comp, so choose your items carefully, as each team comp won’t be the same as the last.
