In this article, we interview Team Liquid's Head Coach, Liquid Peter.
Team Liquid's Head Coach, Peter, has established himself as one of the top coaches in North America. Prior to joining Team Liquid, Peter worked as the coach for LMQ. He left to join Curse, now Team Liquid, and helped them reach a 3rd place finish in the Spring Split. Now, with Team Liquid going into playoffs, he aims to get to worlds and have a strong showing there.
What region do you watch most for inspiration on your team's style of play? LPL, LCK, or even EU LCS?
Peter: I watched mostly LPL and LCK. I think both of the region's are top in the world. Watching their gaming style has helped me improve and has also helped our team improve.
Do you think much of your team's success can be attributed to your pick/ban phase? How much input do you have on your team's champion picks?
Peter: I do 100% of my team's ban/pick this split. But we have a scout meeting and ban/pick meeting before every game starts. In the meeting, I will list the champion's I want to pick and ask players their opinions. If something unexpected happens on the stage, I will have the final call for that. I think for team success, pan/pick ban is 30%. Yes, we did fix our major problem last split. But the main reason we could win the game is our players improved a lot from last split. And our team can actually execute the game plan very well.
As of last split, Team Liquid broke the "curse" and ended 3rd place. How well do you expect Team Liquid to perform during playoffs?
Peter: I think we look very strong right now. We need to work harder for the upcoming playoffs.
Including all regions, which coach have you been influenced the most by?
Peter: I got influenced most by Eric Lao from lolclass. He's not the coach but the analyst with me on Team LMQ. I talked to him a lot. He has very good game knowledge and is very close to me.
How well do you get along with the team?
Peter: I think we're doing pretty well right now. You know, winning games definitely help the team environment.
What would you say is your biggest challenge being the coach of Team Liquid?
Peter: Language!
What are the major differences between being the head coach of former LMQ and the head coach of Team Liquid?
Peter: I speak a different language. Language sometimes will cause a big problem and it's very hard for me. Besides that, I think everything is almost the same. When you're going to the new team, you should know your player first. Once you know the player well then you can easily coach them.
What teams do you expect to go to worlds from EU and NA?
Peter: EU: FNC, H2K, OG. NA: TSM, TL, TIP
Some analysts and experts have stated that the current "meta game" in League of Legends is bland due to a lack of assassin champions, a lack of high impact AD carries, and less focus on individual play. Do you agree with that assertion?
Peter: I think it's right. But that's for standard team comps (tank top etc). There is still a lot of new team comps that teams can run in the current meta.
Which team do you think will win worlds this year?
Peter: EDG
