BF4 Assault Class Overview

A general overview of the Assault class, its role, weapons and gadgets.

In BF4 Assault is a pretty all-round class with access to a wide variety of weapons. They are also the providers of med kits and magical reviving powers – I mean defibrillators. Assaults, as the name implies, are offensive players, usually on the front lines helping the team capture and hold objectives all whilst keeping their teammates alive.

This class starts with the assault rifles, high rate of fire but fairly low damage weapons. A new player begins with access to the AK-12, which is a fairly mediocre weapon with very high hip fire, rate of fire and stability stats but quite low damage at only 30. Obviously by changing your weapon's attachments you can adjust these stats. The SCAR-H is the next unlock for the Assault class, this gun has much less stability but the damage output is 40. Picking the right gun for you is vital to your success in any of the classes, so test them out to see which one you like the feel of, which one gets you the most kills time after time and what attachments work best for you.

Assaults also have access to DMRs, Carbines and Shotguns making this class the most versatile. For close combat situations like in Domination or Team Deathmatches shotguns might be the best option, whilst for the larger maps for Conquest, Assaults can equip a DMR with a scope to provide some long range combat. Where the Assault class does not excel is vehicles. Sure, you can drive them and everything but if you’re not in one yourself, it’s advisable not to get too close to enemy vehicles as the Assault class doesn’t have any methods of dealing with them. Leave it to the Engineers or someone with C4. You can of course help by reviving a suicidal C4 guy.

Finally the Assault class also has access to the grenade launcher, the M320. There are various different versions of the M320, the standard M320 HE is unlocked from the beginning but you also can unlock the M320 SMK, DART, FB, LVG and 3GL for all of the grenade spamming fun you could want! The M320 SMK fires smoke grenades which are awesome at providing cover for an ambush on the enemy team who are camping an objective, or giving your team an escape route when said ambush fails. It’s fun to throw a smoke grenade into an area then just wander in with your knife out and collect some tags while you’re at it. The DART fires 40mm flechettes which basically means you’ve got a shotgun, not a grenade launcher.

The FB launches flash bang grenades, again great for providing temporary, fast acting cover to secure a kill or allow time for you to get to cover. The LVG fires anti-personnel grenades which bounce off surfaces before exploding, great for firing around corners and surprising enemies, just make sure they don’t bounce back towards you before exploding – that hurts. The 3GL is only available with the naval strike expansion, it does less damage than the HE but fires 3 40mm grenades instead of one for providing more splash damage. They also get access to the M26, you’ll be pleased to know. The M26s are compatible shotguns which can be equipped under some assault rifles, they can be unlocked with standard buckshot (MASS), flechette (DART), slugs or frag rounds.

I hope this general overview of the Assault class helps you have a better understanding of the role of the Assault as well as some of the weapons and gadgets you get to play with.
