Carry Time: A Miss Fortune Guide

Want to know how to build and carry as everyone's favorite bounty hunter? Read this Miss Fortune guide and find out!

Hey guys, it’s Kelly here with another guide from my Carry Time series. This time, I am going to cover Miss Fortune, the Bounty Hunter. Miss Fortune was one of the first ADC champions I ever played and I really enjoy her kit and her role in team fights. I think she is quite underrated and underused nowadays, especially with the dawn of the new season, but Miss Fortune is definitely an awesome champion worth playing.

Runes

Marks- Attack Damage x9- The obvious choice in this situation. The extra attack damage is always good for last hitting minions and pushing your lane, but it is especially useful when it comes to Miss Fortune because her Q (Double Up) and R (Bullet Time) scale off the extra damage, so investing in Attack Damage runes help her hit even harder in battle.

Seals- Armor x9- A very standard choice as well. Armor seals help you survive the damage put out by enemy champions. Without these equipped, you could die quite quickly.

Glyphs- Magic Resist x9- If you're against AP supports in the bottom lane like Sona, Annie, or Lulu, you are going to need protection from their spells and ability power damage, and having Magic Resist glyphs equipped is definitely a good move.

Quintessences- Lifesteal x3- Early on, these are excellent, as they help your sustainability and also build off of and work with standard AD-oriented items like Doran’s Blade and Bloodthirster. After a brutal team fight, having these Quintessences equipped well help you bounce back. Alternatively, equipping one Attack Damage quintessence is also a good option as it will help you last hit minions and gain an extra edge in trades.

Masteries

When I play Miss Fortune, I like to run 21/9/0 masteries. Taking points in Fury really works well with Miss Fortune, because the active on her W ability Impure Shots gives her increased Attack Speed for 6 seconds, and Fury gives you extra attack speed, so that stat on top of her W really works out well. Butcher, Double-Edged Sword, Brute Force, Martial Mastery, Warlord, and Havoc give extra attack damage to Miss Fortune as well, and that is extremely valuable early on for last hitting minions and harassing.

Picking up the point in Frenzy is a great idea as well because it gives you some extra attack speed when you get critical hits, and extra speed is always good on Miss Fortune, especially since it works well with her W. When it comes to the Defense mastery tree, Juggernaut and Veteran Scars are good pick-ups if you want a little extra health. Block and Unyielding also reduce the amount of damage you take in, so those combined with Armor Seals will help Miss Fortune survive a little bit better in lane.

Summoner Spells

Barrier and Flash are excellent choices. Barrier acts a shield against enemy damage, and you can even use it to bait enemy champions. If you’re in a trade situation, and both you and an enemy champion are low health, and they’re about to finish you off, you can pop this at the last second to survive, and then you kill them. Flash is good on all champions. Miss Fortune doesn’t have an escape in her kit, so this is definitely needed when you play as her. I also use Flash a lot on Miss Fortune to go in on fleeing enemies. In bot lane, if both enemies are low health and running away to recall and they are both grouped together, I like to flash towards them, use Double Up and kill them.

Abilities

Strut (Passive): I really Miss Fortune’s passive. After not being attacked or in combat for 5 seconds, she gains bonus movement speed. It negates the need to buy boots early on if you want to save for damage oriented items instead, and you can go into fights and initiate well. If someone is trying to chase you down, Strut will help you escape too.

Double Up (Q): Double Up is an awesome ability as it deals a lot of damage, works off of Impure Shot’s bonus damage, and helps you trade effectively. The enemy botlane can run away and think they are safe and sound, but with the help of Strut, you can go in there, use Double Up, and get a double kill. I level this ability up at Level 1, and from there, alternate between leveling up Double Up and Impure Shots until they are both at max.

Impure Shots (W): Miss Fortune’s W helps her hit harder and wreak more havoc in game. Impure Shots has a passive that adds on bonus magic damage, which is stackable up to 5 times. The active on Impure Shots grants Miss Fortune extra attack speed and also acts a healing debuff, which lowers healing and health regeneration received by the enemy by 50% for 3 seconds. So if you’re against an enemy that has abilities that help him heal like Fiddlesticks or Vladimir, Impure Shots is incredibly useful. I level up this ability at level 2, and from then on, I, go from between leveling up Double Up and Impure Shots. You definitely need to level up this ability as much as possible.

Make it Rain (E): I don’t really find Make it Rain that useful on Miss Fortune. It isn’t a terrible ability per se, but it costs a TON of mana early on in relation to what it does, so I don’t really find it worth it to level up Make it Rain early on. I don’t level it up until level 12 or 13 or so. It provides a semi-decent slow, so if there are enemy champions fleeing, this could close the gap and help you finish them off.

Bullet Time (R): Bullet Time dishes out a ton of damage and can completely decimate enemies in game. However, you need to be a bit patient when you use Miss Fortune’s ultimate, so you can get the most use out of it. If you’re against a team of tanks at full health, Bullet Time won’t finish them off. However, if the enemy team contains a bunch of squishy targets with low and they are all grouped together…then that’s a different story. Make sure to pay attention to fights and wait for the most ideal time to use Bullet Time. Like all champions' ultimates, be sure to level up this ability as soon as possible.

Build

This is my typical full build on Miss Fortune. I usually don’t buy boots as my first item, I instead by a Long Sword (and a couple of health potions), as that builds into Vampiric Scepter quite nicely. Then, if possible depending on the circumstances of the game I’m in, I like to get a BF Sword on my first back. A BF Sword helps AD-oriented champions deal a lot more damage early on, and with Miss Fortune, a BF Sword combined with her Impure Shots and the power of her Q can be quite deadly.

I then turn the BF Sword and Vampiric Scepter into a Bloodthirster, It helps champions like Miss Fortune deal a ton of damage, as well as increase survival by providing a ton of Lifesteal. The Bloodthirster item works incredibly well with Impure Shots and the bonus damage it gives. Both Double Up and Bullet Time also scale of attack damage, so having a Bloodthirster in your inventory helps you become a menace in team fights. Then, after that, I start to build Berserker’s Greaves boots. Having Tier 2 boots on Miss Fortune is really good, especially when it comes to her Strut passive. She definitely has an edge over other champions when it comes to movement speed.

An Infinity Edge is also a good pick up. It’s a standard on most AD carries, as it gives you damage and a large amount of critical strike and critical hit damage.

Building Last Whisper is also a wise choice. It works really well with Miss Fortune’s kit, and helps inflict a massive amount of armor penetration. When you get closer to late game, Miss Fortune deals an insane amount of damage, so an item like Last Whisper is definitely worth buying, because when it’s combined with the damage that Miss Fortune can dish out, enemies’ health is shredded and they are obliterated in battle.

Phantom Dancer is a nice item to buy as well. Miss Fortune already has high movement speed from her Strut passive and Tier 2 boots, so Phantom Dancer’s movement speed boost just builds upon that, and it also allows her to ignore unit collision and move through minions. The critical hit chance and attack speed is also good. This is definitely a good item to pick up later in the game once you have already picked up your big damage-dealing items.

When it comes to defensive items, Guardian’s Angel is always a great pick up. It gives you some armor and magic resistance, and if you do get bursted down, this acts as insurance and helps you revive (albeit at 30% of your maximum health and mana), and then you can just Lifesteal back to full health and live on. My games usually don’t last too long, so I almost never get to the point where I pick this up, but if you’re in late game, or the match is dragging in, Guardian’s Angel is a must-have item in your inventory.

Miss Fortune is definitely a force to be reckoned with on Summoner’s Rift. I hope this guide turned you onto the idea of picking her up and using her in battle more often!
