Elixirs: Which is best for YOU!

Let's take a look at the elixirs added this season and check out which ones suit which champions!

In Season 5 of League of Legends, there were many changes to the game that really effected the meta. One of those changes were the changes to elixirs, their effects, and how they work. The old elixirs were removed and four new ones were added: Wrath, Ruin, Sorcery, and Iron. Each one costs 400 gold and can only be used from level 9 on and now you can only have one elixir active at a time, so choose wisely. Without further ado, let’s jump into the elixirs!

ELIXIR OF WRATH

Effect: 25 additional Attack Damage (AD) and the passive Bloodlust for 3 minutes. Bloodlust makes it so the physical damage dealt heals you for 10% of that damage. Getting a kill or assist increases the duration of this elixir by 30 seconds.

Who to use with: AD carries, AD assassins, AD bruisers

Details: This elixir is a 400g Pickaxe that doesn’t take an item slot. It is most efficiently used when team fighting and small skirmishes are happening to maximize the effects. With this cheap boost in damage, the elixir can be used to grant the user big gold gains due the temporary increase in damage. Because of the heal from physical damage, it is even more effective on AD casters, such as Graves and Lucian, but the refresh effect is also good on AD assassins like Talon or Zed. It is used for a quick burst of AD in order to lead to a lead over your opponents.

ELIXIR OF SORCERY

Effect: 40 additional Ability Power (AP), 15 bonus mana regen, and the passive Sorcery for 3 minutes. Sorcery makes it so damaging a tower or a champion deals 25 bonus true damage with a 5 second cooldown between the same champions, but not the tower.

Who to use with: AP mages, AP assassins, AP supports

Details: This elixir is similar to the Wrath elixir, but for AP champions. This is a 400g Blasting Wand and can be used in a similar way as Wrath: A quick boost to further your lead and net you even more gold. However, because of the additional true damage that is dealt to towers, you can use it to siege towers and really chunk the health points (HP) off of towers with your team. It can also be used to amplify your burst damage on champions, such as LeBlanc and Ahri.

ELIXIR OF IRON

Effect: Grants 25% increased size, slow resistance, Tenacity, and the passive Path of Iron for 3 minutes. Path of Iron makes it so your champ will leave a path behind them, boosting your allies' movement speed (MS) by 15%

Who to use with: Tank and Initiators

Details: This elixir opens many options to tanky champions. First of all, it has the effects of Swiftness boots, Mercury Treads, and Captain boots all in one, for 400g. It opens up options for the other tank boots, Ninja Tabi which increases armor, if the magic resist from Mercury Treads is not needed. This boost in power is great for tanks that can also initiate because their team can easily follow you into the fight with the movement speed. This elixir is great when combined with a support that has Talisman of Ascension or the same tank that has a Righteous Glory, which increases move speed in order to get the team into a fight even faster. And because of the increased size, your champion’s model will be bigger in order for your champion to absorb the skillshots of your opponents so they don’t hit your teammates. Overall makes your job as a tank easier.

ELIXIR OF RUIN

Effect: 250 additional HP, 15% bonus damage to towers, and the passive Siege Commander for 3 minutes. Siege Commander makes it so nearby minions gain 15% bonus damage to towers and gain movement speed based on the champ’s MS.

Who to use with: Split pushers

Details: This elixir is best used for split pushers because of the increased damage from the minions to help push and the increased movement helps the push even faster, moving from enemy wave to enemy wave. The HP increase is good for when someone comes to try and stop you from splitting and gives you more HP for fighting and giving just the right amount to survive if you need to run.

In conclusion, an easy way to remember which elixirs to use on which champions, just remember these terms to go along with the elixir. Wrath = AD. Sorcery = AP. Iron = Tanks. Ruin = Split Pushers.
