With each new Fortnite Season comes changes to the map that can greatly affect how the game is played. New features, items, and gameplay mechanics constantly show up whenever there are new POIs added to the game. Here, we are going to look at the new POIs in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, along with the different mechanics and additions they bring with them.
MEGA City
Starting things off strong, the largest of the three named locations added this season is MEGA City. A futuristic city with a similar layout to that of Tilted Towers, it seems to be the most popular of the newly added locations. This new location has plenty to offer in terms of movement and utility thanks to all the vehicles that can be found on its streets. Not to mention the Grind Rails that players can use to move around the area allow for easy access to all the buildings, they can also provide a quick getaway or an easy way to hop into a fight. In addition to the Rails, plenty of Jump Pads and Air Vents are scattered around the city to allow easy traversal without taking any fall damage.
Being towards the Center of the map, MEGA City allows for some easy rotations to several other locations, including all the other new areas Kenjutsu Crossing, Knotty Nets, and Steamy Springs, as well as being in a relatively close distance from Slappy Shores and Frenzy Fields. There are also several Landmarks nearby to either start at or rotate to after hitting MEGA City. Another important thing to note is that the new Kinetic Blade weapon can be found on stands in all the new Named Locations and Landmarks. This new weapon is very useful for mobility and can be another great option to initiate or retreat fights. Overall, this futuristic action-packed city is not for the faint of heart, so be prepared to fight if you drop in here as it is a very high-traffic area for players to land.
Knotty Nets
Now looking at what might be the exact opposite of MEGA City we have Knotty Nets. This secluded fishing island is located in the far bottom right corner of the map and is a very good start for those who prefer fewer engagements when first landing. There are plenty of buildings in the area that can provide a sufficient start and there are several Landmarks along the outskirts of the area to loot while rotating. MEGA City and Kenjutsu Crossing are also not too far away and are both very good options once you have found your footing after you land.
One of the biggest perks to Knotty Nets is the number of fishing spots that it has. Since it is a relatively quiet area, once you clear out the other players that might land there, you can fish for more weapons and utility, which can help set you up for the rest of the game. Several barrels contain fishing rods around the large house with the docks around the coastline that allow for a quick start to fishing if in a pinch or an easy way to get more items once you clear the island. Knotty Nets is a great landing spot for people who prefer a quiet start to their match, which can lead to some easy rotations afterward.
Kenjutsu Crossing
Kenjutsu Crossing, located just below the MEGA City and adjacent to Steamy Springs and Knotty Nets, is one of the more interesting new locations added in Season 2. This is since, while there are several small buildings located throughout the area, its main attraction is the single large temple located at the top of the hill. This temple is home to many chests and Kinetic blades. At the bottom of the temple, there is a capture point as well. If you are in a safe position to do so, capturing this area will allow for easy access to all the chests within the temple, helping you set up for success within the first minutes of the game starting.
The area around Kenjutsu Crossing is very good too, being near all the other three named locations as well as several Landmarks, it makes for a great landing spot similar to MEGA City, with slightly less action. Not to mention there are several geysers around the area, as well as around some of the other new locations, allowing for quick escapes from enemies or the circle if you find yourself lingering around too long. Kenjutsu Crossing is a great area that is a perfect blend of action and seclusion as it attracts players if the path of the bus is nearby, but if the bus isn’t, it can allow for some safe starts to your games.
Steamy Springs
Finally, last but certainly not least we have Steamy Springs. While it may be one of the smallest locations out of the bunch, it certainly has its place. There are several bamboo shoots and cherry blossom trees that allow for a quick and easy collection of materials if you are playing Build mode, and several cover options to shake foes if you are playing Zero Build. On top of this, sometimes there will be chests inside of the bamboo shoots, and breaking them will reveal loot, and sometimes even Chug Barrels.
Steamy Springs also has some of the strongest rotations out of the newer locations, being close to MEGA City, Kenjutsu Crossing, and right next to Fatal Fields. In addition, there are several Landmarks and small houses or structures that have holo-chests and regular chests to loot. Steamy Springs might not be the strongest out of the four new locations, but it is still a great option for those looking for utility or materials to start a match.
Conclusion
Chapter 4: Season 2 brought us some great locations that have unique mechanics and fun traversal methods. All four of the locations allow for solid starts and great rotations, along with being guaranteed to have the new Kinetic Blade. Along with that, each location has its charm to it while keeping the overarching theme of the Season fresh and consistent.
