Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2: Aspects of the Gods Medallions Explained

The Island is now encompassed with Greek Mythology, with the Gods inhabiting some POIs on the map. You can now challenge these Gods for their weapons and more importantly their Aspects.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 has arrived, and the island is filled with Greek Mythology. Similar to last, this season also introduced the Aspects of the Gods (medallions)—powerful tokens that can grant you the power of these gods. These tokens work quite differently than they used to in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1. Before, they would regenerate your shield but now they grant your buffs and abilities reminiscent of these Gods.

Of course, Medallions aren’t the only new thing in the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season. There are new POIs, weapons, and most importantly, Mythic weapons also dropped by these Gods.

The new season introduced four medallions, each representing the power of a mighty deity, or as Fortnite calls it, "an Aspect of the Gods." Each medallion grants a significant god-themed buff.

Locations of the Aspects of the Gods

As cool and powerful as they are, obtaining them is no easy task. To get a medallion, you must first defeat the boss at their altar. These altars are scattered across the maps as POIs:

  • Mount Olympus
  • The Underworld
  • Brawler’s Battleground
  • Grim Gate

Because these medallions are quite powerful, each of these POIs will be heavily contested. Make sure you clear the POI before challenging the boss to a battle.

Speaking of boss battles, you do so by going over to their altar and smashing their statues on the ground. After that, the boss will spawn, and the battle ensues. The boss will have two phases. First, they will spawn their minions, and you have to kill them all. Once you do so, then you can fight the Gods. Each boss battle is unique, and the phases may change slightly, but the overall battle remains consistent. For example, in the Zeus fight, you must first deplete his health bar, after which he will spawn minions, which you must defeat before fighting Zeus again.

Keep in mind that these bosses do a lot of damage, and going in unprepared will be certain doom. It’s better to loot the POI properly and then challenge the boss.

After you have survived the intense battle and managed to defeat the boss, they will drop a medallion and a mythic weapon. With that said, here is the list of all the medallions in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2.

Cerberus (Aspect of Agility)

Cerberus is a three-headed hound and the guardian of Hell. On defeat, he drops the Aspect of Agility medallion. This medallion grants you the ability to dash. You can dash by pressing the jump button twice. By default, you dash forward, but you can dash in other directions by pressing that directional key or holding the analog stick. In total, you have three continuous dashes, after that, it goes on cooldown for a short while. Once the cooldown is finished you can use the dashes again.

The Aspect of Agility isn’t the only way to get these dashes. You can also get them by going into the green water in the new Hell biome. However, when dashing this way, they will not recharge after use. Instead, you have to go into the water again.

Ares (Aspect of Combat)

The Aspect of Combat is dropped by Ares the God of War in Brawler’s Battleground. Being the God of War, Ares’s medallion improves your combat power, giving you 1.05x extra damage on all ranged weapons. This means your rifle, SMG and sniper shots are going to hit even harder.

Zeus (Aspect of Speed)

Feel the lightning coursing through your veins with Zeus's blessing. This medallion grants a significant boost to your movement speed and jump height while sprinting, improving your overall movement throughout the match. It’s noteworthy that the movement buff will only apply when you are sprinting.

Hades (Aspect of Siphon)

The medallion of the God of the Underworld Hades grants you 50 health/shield on a kill, depending on what you lack. For example, if you had 80 health and 50 shields, getting a kill would heal you to 180. In summary, you get a total of 50 healing after you get a kill.

Siphon isn’t a new thing in Fortnite. In fact, it was part of ranked in the early chapters of Fortnite before it was removed. The Aspect of Siphon is Epic’s ingenious way of bringing it back.

The Power and Cost of These Medallions

Imagine having the movement speed of Zeus, the dashing ability of Cerberus, the combat power of Ares, and the Siphon of Hades. You’d be the most dominating force on the battlefield. However, that comes with a serious disadvantage. When you equip a medallion, your position on the map is shown to the other players in the form of a circle. This circle doesn’t show your exact location, but an area that you will be in. As you get more medallions this circle shrinks, making your position more accurate.

While you will have a serious advantage when it comes to power, you will have a target on your back the whole game. Every player will try to get you for those medallions. Be prepared to be ambushed and third-partied from every direction.

This is also only possible when you manage to acquire all the medallions, which is extremely difficult. Firstly, the POIs are spread across the map, so getting there one by one is nearly impossible given the storm will close in or someone else might have taken it.

You can get two or maybe three medallions if you are lucky. For example, The Underworld and Grim Gate are near each other so, with good timing and luck, you can get your hands on those. The others you will have to fight for.

How to Choose the Perfect Medallion

It’s quite obvious now that getting all the medallions isn’t that easy. The best way is to fight for one medallion that you think will be the best for you.

Choosing the right one comes down to your playstyle. Aggressive players will benefit from the Aspect of Siphon and Aspect of Ares. The combination of siphon and extra damage can make you a deadly force to deal with. On the other hand, for more tactical and passive players, the Aspect of Agility and Speed might be better, allowing you to engage and disengage from fights quickly. Plus, rotations become a lot easier with these medallions.

Obviously, this isn't set in stone, if you like a certain medal, you can go for it instead. The POI also plays a big part in your decision. Because, if you want to succeed at getting the medallion, you have to defeat not only the god and its minions but also the players contesting that POI. This means you should have strong knowledge of the layout of the POI so you don’t get killed early in the game.

Conclusion

The medallions are a great new addition to this new chapter. They worked great in Season 1, and are even better in Season 2. Some may argue that they are overpowered, and with good reason; however, obtaining them is difficult, which balances them. Combine that with the fact that they expose your position on the map, which is a serious disadvantage in Battle Royale. In summary, medallions are great to have in your loadout, and their buffs are worth fighting for.
