Fundamental Utility for the T-side on Dust2 in CS:GO

This legendary map has been thoroughly analyzed and dissected for all possible line-ups. With the abundance of information out there, it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. In this guide, let’s find out what line-ups are essential to dominate your T-side!

What the Undertaker was to WWE, Dust 2 is to CS:GO. Undoubtedly the most iconic map to have blessed the game, it is still a fan favorite for newcomers and veterans alike. With all of the attention the map receives, it is no wonder that players have explored every nook and cranny of the sand-swept city. Of course, new line-ups can always be discovered, but it’s safe to say that a substantial number of possibilities have been thoroughly tested. At this point, there is a line-up for almost every position on the map. Some of them are a bit too situational, however, and can actually deteriorate your skill as you scramble to force the line-up in the flow of the game. In this guide, let’s go back to the fundamentals and look at some lineups you will actually use.

A-Site

We start off by looking at the A-site. There are two main pressure points for the defenders to hold, called Long and Short. The Terrorists will try to pinch the defenders on the site by splitting up the troops along both entryways. As it is near impossible to hold either position without being open to the other one, Counter-Terrorists are going to alleviate this pressure by taking control of one of them, usually by pushing into the Pit on Long or by holding a close angle on Short

Flash - A Long

If the Terrorists run all the way to A-Long, they can catch the CT pushing towards Pit before he reaches his hiding place. Of course, the defenders are well aware of this too, and often they hold the doorway to punish any overaggressive attackers. This feeble attempt can be easily shut down with a well-timed flashbang. The best thing is that you can do this while running forward to support your teammate and get the refrag if necessary. Just look towards the palm tree to the right of the doorway, run and release the flashbang as you jump in the air. It will go over the wall and blind anyone looking in your direction. Your teammate running towards long must remember to push all the way through. Otherwise, they’ll just block their teammates and set the enemy up for a perfect Hail Mary spray down.

Another option is to stand on the box and throw the flashbang over the wall from there. This will be slightly more directed towards the player looking at the doorway, but it forces you to stay behind, meaning you should only do this if multiple other people push Long before you.

Smoke - A Cross

Once you have Long control, you can start marching forward onto the bombsite. However, crossing onto the site itself is a risky endeavor, as eagle-eyed snipers will be eagerly holding the cross from Mid. Luckily, you can safely smoke this angle from deep Long. To throw this smoke, put yourself in front of the barrel and aim at the tooth graffiti on the wall in front of you. There, move your crosshair up until it’s on the uppermost power cable. Step forward and release.

Usually, you’ll want two people to throw smokes as throwing just one always leaves a small gap that is perfect for those pesky snipers. The second one should throw the same smoke, aiming slightly towards the right. Make sure you have someone covering you, as this position leaves you slightly exposed for Long.

Molotov - Long Car

When you push towards the site, there is a good chance someone will be hiding in the corner near Car. There is no super fancy line-up for this one, just make sure the Molotov lands in the right corner to force any possible defender out. Make sure to hold this position for a few seconds as you wait for the defender to flee.

Smoke - X-Box

If you’re running in Mid towards Short, it is highly likely the Mid player will spot you and potentially get a few quick frags, especially if he has an AWP. Luckily, you can easily block off his angle with a safe smoke line-up.

Walk towards the doors of A-Long and stand next to the wall. Find the two black dots in the right-most brick at head height, and aim at the second one. Turn around, and look upwards to the receiver of the satellite dish above you. Aim towards the bottom of the bulky end of the receiver, and release.

Smoke - A Short

As you’re headed up Short, chances are you face mighty resistance from a sniper lying in wait to pick off you and your teammates like ducks at the carnival. You can make the lives of you and your compatriots a lot easier by throwing down a smoke for the cross. Other advantages of this line-up? You can easily throw a flashbang and a smoke down the ledge, after which you can sneakily jump off Catwalk and hold the flank from CT or surprise the enemies on Ramp. Just make sure you don’t take the bomb with you, as dying there would set the CTs up for a very easy defense.

To throw this smoke, put yourself in the corner of Short and aim just below the uppermost edge in the right corner of the wall next to the stairs. Simply release the smoke and you’re good to go.

B-Site

Next up, we have the B-site. Infamously difficult to (re)take, the B-site boasts many close angles and narrow entryways. In fact, once you gain control, a single smoke in the doorway to mid can be sufficient to stop any retake. The attackers can get very close to the site without being spotted. Consequently, B hits are usually very quick and hard, as you want control of the site as fast as possible and before the defenders can rotate. These line-ups are all about pushing onto the site as safe as possible and taking control before your enemies even know what hit them.

Smoke - Mid to B

If you’re headed towards the other side of the map, you might consider doing a B-split. This requires you to smoke off CT-Spawn, granting you relatively safe passage to the B-site from Mid.

To throw this smoke, put yourself in the corner of X-Box. Aim towards the brown spot that is barely visible on the wall to the left of your vision, and release. Be careful though, as snipers can still take an elevated position and rifles frequently spray through this smoke. Because of this, it’s better to stick to the right side of the runway leading to the B-site.

Smoke - B Cross

The main issue when leaving B Halls is that you’re forced to enter the site through a narrow chokepoint, giving the B defenders the perfect opportunity to shut down the assault with a swift spray down. To give your team a little room to breathe, you can throw a smoke on the left wall of B Halls. This will block off the direct vision of the enemies on the chokepoint, and allow you and your team to spread out a little and trade for each other.

To throw this smoke, start in front of the pillar and aim towards the right of the dark brown shape on the wall. Run forward and release the smoke. Make sure not to run too far, however, as you don’t want enemies to see you with a smoke in hand.

Flash - Site from B Halls

Finally, it is quite useful to know how to throw a flash from B Halls. The B-site can be taken over in a split second as you can push up very close without the enemies spotting you, unlike the A-site.

Put yourself between the wall and the pillar on your left, and aim just above the first shaved-off spot in the wall you see above you. For this one, you’ll want to jump and release the moment you’re at the highest point of your jump.

With these smokes, you’ll be the master of this legendary map in no time. As you can probably tell, to make the most of the utility on Dust2, these line-ups have to be executed in combination with each other. So, get your friends to learn these line-ups too and, together, you will take over sites like it’s nobody’s business.
