Having Fun with Themed Teams

Grab some friends and have some fun with a few ideas for themed teams
There’s no doubt that League of Legends is a fun, challenging game. Sometimes though, as players, we can get caught up in the competitiveness and monotony of the game. Grinding out ELO and solo queue can seem more like a chore than what it should be – a game. A game should be something you enjoy and something to do for fun. So step back for a minute, or better yet grab some friends and play together.
For me, it’s always more enjoyable when I play with four friends and we’re all joking, laughing and having a good time. To have even more fun, try something a little different. Riot has released some incredible champions and amazing skins, and put these together and you can make some awesome themed team compositions.
What do I mean by this? So many of the skins are naturally themed – fire, vandal, pirate, Riot and so on, so why not make a team out these? Now these natural ones are pretty easy, but take it a step further. With a bit of pop culture and Hollywood you’ll make one remarkable, absurd -- maybe a bit unconventional – and most importantly fun team.
Below are three possible team compositions and some ways to get some more entertainment out of some of the characters.
A good one to do, and one that can basically fit the current meta pretty well.
Classic Fiddlesticks
An excellent choice to fill the Scarecrow position. Play him jungle, mid, or even support – you could use a scarecrow anywhere (just watch out for Brand, fire hurts). Be sure to say “If I only had a brain…” in all chat every time you die.
Classic or Rusty Blitzcrank
Beep boop he’s the Tin Man. Bring out Rusty Blitz and constantly remind your team that you need your oil can. If the enemy is complaining about your hooks, remind them that you don’t have a heart yet.
Classic Warwick
Fill the role of the Cowardly Lion or even Toto. Be sure to inform the enemy team which one you are, as it would be a shame to have them be confused.
Classic Rengar
If you feel the need to have Toto and the Lion on your team, pick up Rengar and Warwick for double the fur.
Classic Janna
Sign her up for Glinda the Good Witch. They’ve both got that staff/wand thing going for them, except Janna’s is cooler.
Classic Teemo
Obviously a munchkin. He’s short, annoying, and looks ridiculous – everything the munchkins are. Feel free to type out “Follow the Mushroom Road!” while the enemy hits every single one of your mushrooms.
Maokai
Remember those trees that threw those apples at Dorothy and the Scarecrow? Yeah, that was obviously Maokai and some saplings. Pick him and keep on throwin’.
Professor Ryze
The Wizard of Oz. Always a solid pick to choose the leader of the Emerald City.
Classic Sivir
Dorothy. There’s not too much here besides they kind of look similar, although Sivir needs some ruby slippers. Taunt the opposition after a kill -- “THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.”
A classic book, a Disney movie, and a film by Tim Burton. Now bring it all together in League of Legends with this ridiculous roster.
Annie in Wonderland
The most obvious choice and the foundation for this team. I would recommend always having her as there is such a perfect skin.
Mad Hatter Shaco
Certainly it’s fitting for a crazy character like Shaco to have him be the Mad Hatter. Make sure to yell “A very merry unbirthday to you!” as you’re ganking and getting skills.
Classic or Monarch Kog’maw
Absalom. Who’s that? The weird caterpillar guy who smokes hookah all day and speaks in riddles. Choose either classic for when he’s a bug, or monarch Kog for after he’s out of his cocoon.
Cottontail Teemo
The White Rabbit. For every time you Move Quick – “I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!”
Classic Warwick
He could definitely pass for the bandersnatch and claw his way to victory.
Heartseeker Vayne
Ah yes, the Queen of Hearts. The only thing to say before, during and after a team fight – “OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!”
There are too many champions that fit so well to NOT do a Batman team (and he's just too cool).
Classic Zyra
This champion seems to be modeled after Poison Ivy, so it’s a clear choice. She’s makes a perfect addition to your Batman team.
Classic Shaco
Another champion that seems modeled after a Batman villain – this time the Joker. And if you’re playing him in the jungle, be sure to yell out “Why so serious?!?” every time you go for a gank.
Superhero Teemo
Teemo can easily fill the role of Robin. Kind of like the munchkins for the Wizard of Oz team, Robin (and Teemo) is annoying and looks ridiculous. Don’t forget to have a whole lot of “HOLY [whatever] BATMAN!”
Classic Nocturn
It may not look too much like him, but Nocturn is a pretty good fit for Batman. He lives in the darkness, fears his enemies and is a scary, badass dude. When going for ganks remind the other team, “I am the night!”
Classic Fiddlesticks
Another perfect fit, this one Scarecrow. Ask the other team if they want to see your mask before ulting in with Crow Storm.
Cryocore Brand
Though he might be using fire, this Brand skin certainly looks like Mr. Freeze. Team up with Zyra (Poison Ivy) for double villain action.
Classic or Riot Graves
A pretty decent fit for Commissioner Gordon. Graves might be a little too hardcore and have a little too big of a gun for a police officer, but hey, why not?
Augmented Signed
Another great fit for a villain – Bane. He runs on chemicals and can fling enemies just like in the movie. After a well-timed fling or kill tell the other team, “Ah yes, I was wondering what would break first… your spirit, or your body?”
Piltover Blitzcrank
No Batman comic or movie is complete without the Batmobile – and neither is your team. Take the robot with this great skin and support your team as the coolest car in the world.
These are just a few examples of some themed teams of classic stories and movies. Be creative – there’s definitely more you can do with these teams and plenty more teams to create. Most importantly have fun with it, and use themed teams to get more enjoyment out of League of Legends.
