Becoming a professional Fortnite player is a dream for many and with enough hard work, dedication, and skill, it can be within your reach. Fortnite Global champion, Cooper "Cooper" Smith, is here to share his journey and offer you invaluable advice. From overcoming common obstacles to climbing the scrimmage ladder, Cooper's insights provide a roadmap for you to excel in the competitive Fortnite arena.
One common problem I hear from players are time limits on playing. I even had those when I was younger. My parents had it set so my PC would turn off at 12:00 PM. They just want me to maintain a balance. What people struggle to realize is that from a parent's perspective, if you're playing the game 12 hours a day and they don’t see results, they need you to have balance. With the time crunches, it's all about making the most of it. For instance, if my PC turns off at 10:00 PM, I need to set a schedule and use my time wisely.
Balancing gaming with other responsibilities is a common challenge you might face. Cooper emphasizes the importance of structuring your time efficiently and maintaining balance. It can be difficult when juggling school and other responsibilities, with practicing the game. By creating a strict schedule and maximizing the time you have, you can make significant progress even with limited playtime. Understanding and respecting your parents' concerns can also help in finding a compromise that allows for dedicated practice while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
I think the main thing I could say is just to use your time right. That's the most important thing. Use what you have, when you can.
Make the most of your time. Focus on consistent practice, learn from every game, and stay dedicated to improving your skills. Using the resources you have effectively and prioritizing practice sessions can lead to steady skill enhancement. By analyzing your gameplay and learning from mistakes, you can continuously refine your strategies and performance.
The main scrim server right now on NA is called Vital and it’s run by Manu on Discord. The way you get to the main pro practice is by building yourself up by playing the brackets and tournaments in the lower servers. If you win one of the little ladders, you get invited to the main scrims.
Climbing the scrimmage ladder involves participating in lower-tier brackets and tournaments to build your reputation and earn invitations to higher-level scrims. Engage in these competitions to gain experience and recognition. Networking and seeking guidance from established players can also be beneficial in navigating the competitive landscape and progressing to higher tiers.
Honestly, I think it's different for everybody. But for a lot of people, it's inconsistency. Players might qualify for Grands but end up getting contested because nobody respects them. Being contested in Grands is so hard. I think the way to gain respect is by winning Cash Cups, streaming, tweeting clips of going crazy, and making people scared of you. The biggest skill barrier is being contested. Nobody’s ever going to let you get a good drop by yourself. Doing well in Grands with a terrible drop is challenging. Most people land in terrible spots to prove themselves. Everyone has their struggles, but it's about finding ways to overcome them.
Consistency is crucial for finding success in any venture. When it comes to becoming a Fortnite pro, players that struggle to maintain it often suffer poorer performance and face challenges like being contested in the Grand Finals. To gain respect from other players and avoid such issues, focus on consistently practicing so that you perform well in smaller tournaments, stream, and share impressive gameplay clips. Building a reputation as a formidable player can deter others from contesting your drops, making it easier to succeed in tournaments.
I’m not known for having a great mentality, but I’ll never let it wear on the person I’m playing with. You always want to keep good vibes around you. Even if your mindset is messed up, you still need to be good in-game. If you get mad and upset, things turn bad, just keep everything positive in-game. Use all the frustrations towards your game, and don’t let it stay in your mind. Think about the next game and keep good vibes.
Maintaining a positive mindset is essential for your success in competitive gaming. Keep a positive attitude and don't let frustrations affect your performance or that of your teammates. By channeling negative emotions into improving your game and focusing on the next match, you can maintain a peaceful, constructive environment that will impact your overall performance. Good vibes and a positive mentality can significantly impact your success in the long run.
From understanding the importance of a supportive environment to mastering time management and building a reputation through consistent performance, Cooper's insights provide great advice for aspiring Fortnite pros. By following his advice and maintaining a positive mindset, you can navigate the challenges of competitive gaming and work towards achieving your dreams in the Fortnite arena. See you on the battle bus!
