How to Complete Riot’s New Challenges As a Party
Let’s discuss three fun challenges you can achieve with your friends in League.
Let’s discuss three fun challenges you can achieve with your friends in League.
So here is the scenario, you are in the fortunate situation to be playing with four friends, the Discord is vocal yet chilled, and the time has come for some League of Legends. But while the vibe isn’t entirely try-hard, it’s not so meme heavy that Ultimate Bravery is appropriate, so what do you do?
Well, Riot has recently provided a new metric for you to push the limits of yourself and your friends without having to endure the intensity of Ranked Solo/Duo or Ranked Flex. They have done this with the addition of challenges, new trackable stats, display-ables, and goals for the player base to utilize and chase.
Now some of these challenges are your run-of-the-mill stat trackers such as Shattered Plates (tracking the number of turret plates you take over your career) however there are a selection of unique challenges for you to push for. These are the challenges that I want to focus on as some of these challenges require a group of friends to attempt.
In this piece, we will take a look at some of these challenges that need a five-person setup so that you can have some fun goals for your group sessions in the future.
Requirement:Take the outer turret in ARAM in the first five minutes
Before I hear all of you run around bragging about how you obtained this challenge playing ARAM solo because you are all solo queue deities. I wish to raise the point that this is a task that really takes 5 people to be on the same page to achieve consistently on repeat.
Anyway, the approach to this is to have all 5 players commit to one of two goals. The first is centered around permanent shoving in the lane hard before attacking the turret in an effort to rush it with minimal champion contact (champions like Caitlyn are an excellent pickup if you can roll for the champion). The second approach is to play for early team wipe and then uncontested shoving (champions such as Alistar can be excellent for this).
This one is actually a lot more difficult than it seems. This is because 5 minutes in ARAM is a lot shorter than you think and your potential for getting a good comp is subject to luck as well. If you should attempt this with your friends, good luck, you will need it.
Requirement: Play and win a Summoner's Rift game with all 5 champions on your team being from a single region.
This one is a lot simpler: get your 5-man team together, pick a region, determine who’s going where with whatever champion, and then roll into Summoner's Rift (normal queue either blind or draft is advised).
However, to offer my own piece of advice here, the simplest region to complete this on is the Freljord: the only role that has a single traditional choice is bottom lane carry with Ashe with every other role having at minimum two options (I personally had a lot of fun playing Anivia support with the Electrocute keystone).
It is also noted that attempting these challenges can forcibly make you discover a new pick to add to your champion pool so there is that hidden benefit too.
Side Note: There is also a similar tree of achievements (see the Harmony challenges) similar to this centering on specialist abilities (such as hooking champions, pet owners, and terrain creators) which are similar to the point mentioned above and sometimes only require a 3 to 4 man premade.
Requirement:Take Dragons, as much of the enemy’s jungle as possible, and kill the enemy jungler in his own jungle, etc.
This is another challenge field that you can accomplish solo and I’m sure all you League of Legends Jungle invade experts already have done this and achieved Challenger rank in a week for this award. However, this is a goal that is one you can achieve much easier with the help of a coordinated team hence its place in this piece.
The objective here is to set up your team composition with lanes that can take priority in the lane then link up with your premade jungle to facilitate invades, take (maybe steal) objectives, and hunt the opposing jungle all in pursuit of completing the achievements in the predator tree of the Expertise.
So, there we have it, 3 challenge areas which you can strive for together as a group of friends. As an alternative to ranked as a group, this is a fantastic method to not only have fun with your friends/teammates/community (shoutout to the crew I personally have had the pleasure of experiencing this while conducting my research).
As I previously mentioned earlier, there are a few other benefits to this, whether it be an expansion of your own personal champion pool, the discovery of a new playstyle, or even just the benefit of building synergy with what could be potential teammates of the future or maybe even building a stronger bond with your special person for those of you lucky enough to be able to play with your significant other.
With that, I wish you all the best of luck in your pursuit of challenge points, victories, and most importantly, a fun experience, and as always, GL HF and GG.
