How to Double Pump in Fortnite OG Mode

Fortnite OG brings back a lot of nostalgic stuff, including the Double Pump. So, if you didn’t get a chance to use or learn it back then, you can now.

The revival of the Fortnite OG Mode has brought a lot of stuff that veterans loved. Overpowered Shotguns, iconic POIs, nostalgic weapons, but most of all the double pump. A mechanic that set apart skilled players from the noobs back in the day.

Being able to double pump was a flex in the old days, and learning it was an achievement. Plus, it was one of the most difficult mechanics to learn at that time (90s and crazy retakes didn’t exist then). If you are from the bunch that didn’t play when the double pump was allowed, then this is the best time to learn it. So, here is a detailed guide on how to double pump in Fortnite OG.

What’s Double Pump

Double Pump is essentially a mechanic where you use two pumps back to back. It has the possibility of ending the enemy with just two shots if you hit both. However, the reason it was so popular was because it was a forgiving mechanic.

You could miss a shot, use the other pump, and repeat. Just shoot switch shoot switch and repeat until the enemy is dead. Because of it being overpowered, it was later removed from the game.

The History Of Double Pump

Double Pump was a mechanic that became popular in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 and 2, and carried on until Season 4. It was popularized by streamers like Daequan and Hamlinz, among many others. Anyone skilled at the game was double-pumping.

However, it becomes too overpowered in the hands of a good player. Skilled players would dominate lobbies with this mechanic. Double Pump made a normal shotgun into a semi-automatic weapon. It also moved players away from Fortnite core mechanics and forced players to abuse Double Pump just because it was easy to get kills with it, and it gave uan nfair advantage to players.

Because of the feedback and complaints against this mechanic, Double Pump was later removed in Patch 6.3. They introduced a cooldown when you switch from one shotgun to another, basically removing the Double Pump meta entirely.

Why it Was Removed

The most simple answer is that Double Pump was too overpowered. Pump shotguns do a lot of damage, and back then a grey pump could deal more than 150 on a headshot. Normally, when you use a pump shotgun there is a slight delay when you could fire again, making the shotgun a balanced weapon.

However, what players did was carry another shotgun with them, and quickly switched to the other shotgun after firing one bypassing the delay. This allowed them to fire one pump shot right after the other dealing huge damage and often killing the enemy in one shot. This mechanic made players move away from Fortnite core mechanics such as building as players would often just rush double pump and move to other fights.

So, the double pump was removed because it was overpowered, unbalanced, and moved people away from what Fortnite was designed to be.

Why is Double Pump Back?

Fortnite players have been requesting Epic Games to bring back the old map back. There are a lot of memories attached to the OG map, mechanics, and weapons, a lot of players started playing back then which is why people wanted it back.

But in order to deliver the true nostalgic feel of Fortnite’s first Chapter, Double Pump was brought back. Sure, it is overpowered but it’s still a core part of Fortnite's early stages and, without it, it wouldn’t be OG Fortnite.

For this reason, Double Pump was brought back but only in the Fortnite OG mode.

How to Double Pump

Double Pump is actually quite simple to do, which is why It became so overpowered. All you need is two pump shotguns in your loadout, and when you shoot one just switch to the other.

So, it would go like shoot, switch, shoot, switch back, and shoot— and that’s double pumping.

You might have trouble switching pumps in the beginning, so it’s a good idea to have both shotguns on binds that are easy to press in sequence. Apart from, that it’s all practice.

You need to burn the switching and shooting mechanics into your muscle memory. Because, if you are too focused on the mechanic itself, it will become a bit hard to aim.

Conclusion

The fun part is that the Double Pump is back, and it’s fun to use it again, especially for veteran players. Whether you choose to learn it or not is up to you, but if you do then this guide should have helped you out.
