Since Fortnite’s inception, leveling up your account has always been a core part of the game’s identity. A player’s account level is the accumulation of all seasonal levels gained throughout the seasons of Fortnite. In the early seasons of Fortnite, your seasonal level was a symbol of your skill and dedication to the game. Players with high seasonal levels would have upgraded banner frames, showing your skill to any players you eliminate. In more recent seasons, seasonal levels contribute directly to obtaining rewards from the battle pass.
Additionally, Fortnite has introduced new ways to get free cosmetics through raising your account level and gaining XP, without having to purchase the battle pass or any additional V-Bucks. Most recently, Fortnite has had the Chrome Punk Goals event, which for a limited time awards the player with a back bling, wallpaper, and the Chrome Punk skin without the player needing to spend a dollar.

How Do You Gain Account Levels?
Fundamentally, leveling up requires obtaining XP, which comes from a variety of sources. From Levels 0-200, a level-up occurs after accumulating 80000 XP. From Level 200 onwards, the amount of XP needed per level increases by 400 per additional level, eventually capping out at level 1000. For most players, the contribution to their account level will come from the first 200 levels each season, as it becomes increasingly difficult to level up.
In the early ages of Fortnite, leveling up was straightforward. Complete daily and weekly challenges, get rewarded. However, Fortnite has gradually revamped and upgraded their XP system. With the continuous changes of the battle pass system and new game modes like Creative and Imposters, there are an overwhelming number of ways to get XP.
This article will discuss the main ways to level up in Fortnite, through obtaining XP, and outlining which methods are the most recommended methods to save time.
Obtain XP from Quests
The bulk of XP you can obtain in a season of Fortnite will come from quests. For players who don’t typically focus on quests, navigating the quest menu may be a bit difficult. In the main lobby, simply hit the M key to navigate to the quest tab. There, you will see the different quest categories on the left, and the corresponding individual quests on the right. You can also click on individual quests to get Fortnite’s in-game map, which provides limited information on any relevant locations.
We will go over each of these quest categories, and some tools to help you complete any quests quickly.
Daily and Weekly Quests/Goals
Starting off Daily and Weekly Quests, these are likely to be the bulk of the XP you received in a season, as they replenish over the duration of the season. Daily quests are very basic quests that can be completed in a short time. Each daily quest yields 1000 XP, but the first three quests in a day yield an additional 15000 XP each. For these quests, it’s only efficient to complete the first three everyday.
Weekly quests are released every Thursday, and each batch of quests remain available until the end of the season. This means that players can choose to keep up with each set of new quests, or wait to complete them in one go. Most players will eventually complete all the weekly challenges eventually, so we can think of them as “guaranteed” XP in a given season. By completing all weekly quests,
A good resource to complete these quests is Fortnite.GG, a website which displays important information about the Battle Royale island, including any relevant locations for any quest items.
Turn on the switches for Weekly Quests for the respective week
Once you select the week, the map will display any important information pertaining to that quest. In the example below, you can see the week 4 quests pertaining to safes, wildlife, bounty boards and more, all being conveniently displayed on the map.
Story/Milestone Quests and Kickstart Quests
These types of quests are permanently present over the course of the season, and do not refill once completed. Story quests are a set of quests that are thematically related to the theme of the season. Each season gives these quests a different name, with Chapter 3 Season 4 being titled “Paradise”. These quests typically require players to interact with items that are strictly related to the lore of a season, and minimally impact standard gameplay. Thus, you will likely have to go out your way to complete them, but they are not too inconvenient.
Milestone quests are a set of quests that are meant to be completed over the length of the season. They are progressive and are meant to be achieved by simply playing. Some examples of quests include dealing damage, outlasting opponents, restoring health, and many more actions that would normally be completed in a Battle Royale match. Thus, these will naturally be completed in the background, and shouldn’t be focused on.
The Kickstart quests are a set of quests meant to give you a good amount of XP in one sitting, released at the start of the season. These also involve typical things you would perform in matches, so simply playing will likely result in completing these quests over a couple games.
Once again, you can use fortnite.gg or any other online guide to help you complete these quests quickly, as players are quick to upload their findings on the web.
Creative Mode Accolades
In the past, there have been various methods of abusing Fortnite Creative’s XP system to get large amounts of XP quickly. Map creators could freely implement systems to award players with XP just by staying in the creative map. Since then, Epic has mitigated these exploits by adding the Accolade device system, which allows map creators to formally award users with XP for completing tasks that are specific to the context of the map. Of course, there are maps where creators will still simply give accolades for free, which are typically what you find when you search for “Fortnite Creative XP Exploit” guides.

One important feature about this system is that the more players that play a map and activate an accolade, the less XP is rewarded. This makes any exploits that are widely popularized ineffective over time. There is also a decay in XP in the amount of time you personally play a specific Creative map, so using the same XP method will also end up being ineffective the longer you play. Finally, there is somewhat of a daily Creative XP cap, which reduces the amount of XP players can obtain in Creative after obtaining ~200000 XP on that day.
With this in mind, the best way to take advantage of the system is playing some less popular maps and earning XP through that map’s individual accolades until you reach the cap that diminishes your XP gains. You can find maps either through Fortnite’s in-game discovery system, or third-party websites and social media.
Supercharged/XP Boost Weekends
One last important aspect of XP is taking advantage of the Supercharged mechanic and XP boost weekends. Supercharged is a mechanic that gives an XP boost to players who don’t play the game for a certain period of time. If you miss daily quests, your XP will become Supercharged, boosting your XP gains to account for missed quests. Supercharged XP will end once you accumulate the same amount of XP you would have received from completing daily quests. This feature is important for players who aren’t able to play frequently but want to accumulate enough XP to get rewards.
The latter mechanic of XP boost weekends is more straightforward, where Fortnite has special limited time periods where you will get an increased amount of XP for all aspects of getting XP. If you don’t have time to play Fortnite often, taking advantage of these specific periods will enable you to catch up for missed time.
Combining the Supercharged mechanic with Creative accolades is a great way to get XP while being AFK, for any players who don’t have the time to grind out quests.
Gameplay
Aside from quests, there are also additional ways to get XP and level up. If you’ve noticed, completing certain actions in a game yields XP. Interacting with objects such as chests, ammo crates, freezers, llamas, foraged items will give you an additional amount of XP. Interacting with NPCs, eliminating other players, and placing high in a match also reward the player XP. Carrying a Victory Crown (from getting a Victory Royale) into the following game will give you an XP boost. Additionally, exploring new areas of the map and completing lifetime accolades found in the career tab give XP.
Your accolades, found in the Career tab in the lobby
Essentially, whatever you do in a Battle Royale lobby will give you XP in one way or another. It would be difficult to track exactly which actions reward what amount of XP, so simply playing to the best of your ability and looking for opportunities to do more actions is what you should keep in mind.
Imposters and Other Game Modes
Moving past the traditional Battle Royale modes, there are some other game modes that will also award XP. These are subject to change based on the season, so the game modes mentioned below are only some examples of game modes.
Imposters is Fortnite’s spin on a deduction-style game, where players work together to complete tasks and figure out which players are secretly working against the group. If you are tired of the traditional Fortnite experience, you can earn 5000-10000 XP playing this special gamemode.
Team Rumble is also a great gamemode to earn XP. Most notably, this gamemode has respawning on, while taking place on the Battle Royale map. Thus, you are able to complete quests that require repetitive and potentially risky actions, without having to waste time queuing into new games if you end up getting eliminated. Quests that require eliminating opponents, opening chests and fishing are just some examples of quests that are more convenient to complete in Team Rumble.
Conclusion
The quickest and most consistent way to gain account levels in Fortnite is to work towards completing all the quests available to you. Additionally, Creative mode accolades will yield an additional amount of XP every day, which is useful for players who are busy, or consistently stay on top of quests. Finally, taking advantage of any of Epic’s XP boost events will help you push ahead even if you are behind. Take advantage of these tips, and happy leveling!
