Riot Games has added a ton of player profile customization options over recent years. Everything from your profile picture and background to the banner behind your player card in the loading screen is editable, giving players near infinite possible combinations to put on display. Titles are a special form of personalization, as they can’t (currently) be bought. They are also not considered to be loot, as they do not appear in Hextech Chests. Some of these customizations are rarer than others, while others are easily earned.
What Are Titles?
Titles are unlockable phrases that can be used to add a bit of personal flair to your Summoner Profile. They’re often descriptive in nature like “Absolute Unit” for people who have tanked a lot of damage in fights, or “Flashy” for people who secure kills by diving in with Flash. They were introduced in 2022 along with the new Challenge system.
Your title is visible to other players when they view your profile and also during the loading screen. Titles do not appear while you are in game.
What Titles Can I Earn?
If you’d like a complete list of titles that can be earned, the League of Legends Wiki has a very convenient list of all possible challenge titles. It can help a lot when you’re looking for the perfect last touch to put on your profile. Finding the title that you’re most interested in can also help you hone your playstyle, and focus on gameplay mechanics that you already like—or some you might need to work on. Once you have your goal, though, you will want to
How Do I Earn Them?
Titles can be earned through Challenges, which are missions that you can complete through certain in-game actions, account milestones, mastery levels, or by participating in events. Think of titles like you’d think of achievements in other games; the only difference is that you can put these on display going into every game.
It’s important to note that you cannot earn every title in the game just by being good at the game. Like we mentioned earlier, they also can’t be bought (directly). While some titles are earned through obtaining cosmetics, they can also be earned for free through Hextech Chests and upgrading skin shards.
Challenges are divided into categories based on how you complete them. Categories also contain another subdivision, called “groups,” for even more specific pairings. Under your profile page, if you click on “Challenges,” you will see the categories listed out, along with your progress on each achievement. Here’s a table of the general themes for each of the categories:
Collection: Unlocking loot, purchasing champions and their skins
Expertise: Overpowering enemies (gold leads, kills, vision etc.)
Imagination: Achievements in non-Summoner’s Rift game modes
Legacy: Achievements that are limited-edition or seasonal/timed
Teamwork & Strategy: Working together with allies to make good plays
Veterancy: Playing a lot of games, and earning account lifetime stats
By doing things in game (or in the client, for Imagination challenges) that follow these general themes, you’re going to be well on your way to collecting titles! If you collect 45 titles, you’ll also get the “Titular” title.
You can earn your favorite champions’ titles for your profile as well! By earning Mastery Level 10 on any champion, you can permanently use your main’s title as your own. If you are a OTP (One Trick Pony), you’re sure to enjoy going by your main’s moniker! Examples of these titles include “Maven of the Strings” for Sona, and “The Spear of Vengeance” for Kalista. Using these special titles can really show your dedication to your main.
What Titles Are Rarest?
The rarity of titles is not easily found within the game’s client, since the rarity listed for you will be based on the rank that you currently have the challenge at. It’s not tied to how rare the title itself is. As you keep playing games after you’ve unlocked your desired title, you’ll continue ranking up in that challenge, and have it look rarer.
That said, there are a number of titles that have hard challenges tied to them. Things like earning pentakills on different champions or beating your lane opponent by over 100 farm are significantly more intentional than the achievements you earn by passively playing your class as intended, for example.
Some of the hardest (and through that, likely to be rarest) titles include:
Player Diff
Requires you to win 65 games played in “fill” queue, where you cannot pre-select your role. If you’re used to playing Jungle already, this challenge might not feel too different from your average night in solo queue. Unfortunately for the mid lane mains, you’re probably not going to be seeing much of your usual role if you’re grinding for this challenge.
Unkillable Demon
You’ll need to win seven games where you have not died while still earning at least 30% kill participation. Depending on the champion you play, it might be easier than others. The key thing is to focus on playing with your team, or for your K/D/A, depending on your role. For example, Soraka is very squishy during most parts of the game, but her global ultimate can really help her rack up assists!
Spitfire
To get this title, beat your lane opponent by over 100 CS at least 20 times. This depends a lot on your role. For example, if you play a farm-focused jungler and the enemy is very gank heavy, you should not have too much of a hard time. Doing this repeatedly, though, relies heavily on your ability to lock in and focus on farming. Roles are pretty important for this one, though. If you’re playing support, for example, you shouldn’t be getting hundreds of CS to begin with. Pick your roles wisely if you want this one!
Perfect
Earn 190 progress points in the challenges based on completing the following tasks repeatedly:
- Win a game with more than eight kills without dying.
- Become Legendary within 15 minutes.
- Win without dying with different champions.
- Get two pentakills in one game.
- Have more than 450 gold/min in a game
Unfortunately, there is not much of a shortcut for this one, which is pretty apt for the title. You’re going to want to know your main like the back of your hand and pick a champion that you can carry on. Supports, while able to carry in their own way, are pretty unlikely to end their game with 450 gold/min or over eight kills, barring some rare exceptions like Brand or Pyke.
Sage
You will have to earn Master rank in the Sage challenge (1700 progress points), required from the Guru, Virtuoso, and Ace groups. These include:
Guru Challenges:
- Focused primarily on earning Mastery Points, including:
- Earning a lot of Mastery Points on one champion
- Earning Mastery Points/Levels on a wide variety of champions
- Winning games on a variety of champions
Virtuoso Challenges:
- Focused primarily on earning Mastery on champion subtypes
- Earning Mastery Levels on Champion Groups, including:
- Assassins, Fighters, Mages, Marksmen, Supports, Tanks
- You can earn titles for leveling up each of these groups individually, as well!
Ace Challenges:
- Win games as specific roles/queue types
- Top, Jungle, Mid, Bot, Support, Fill Queue
- You can earn individual titles as you level up each of these challenges as well, which are the “[Role] Diff” titles.
While the tasks for this challenge are not as inherently difficult on their own, the sheer amount of grind required to reach this task requires plenty of playtime in the Rift. There is not an easy way to win hundreds of games, or to heal for hundreds of thousands of points. It might not be a mechanically challenging title to earn, but anyone in the know will understand that you’re far from a new player if you’ve gotten all the points required for Sage.
Wrapping Up
Titles are an awesome way to show off your playstyle, share your dedication, and add a personal touch to your Summoner profile, without opening your wallet. With there being hundreds of challenges, there’s a title available to fit everyone’s style.
People grind for dozens, if not hundreds of hours for some of these titles. Your favorite might be simpler to get than others, but that doesn’t make it any less worth it, as long as you’ve enjoyed the trip to get it. Whether you’re looking for something to show other people that you’re a top-tier tower diver or the best enchanter on this side of the Atlantic, there’s a challenge and title for you!
