How to Retake the B Site on Dust2 With Tips From DignitasVIE friberg

Learn and improve your ability to retake the infamous B bombsite on Dust2 with some tips from the one and only friberg.

If there’s something that any recent or veteran CS:GO player can agree all together is that the B bombsite on Dust2 is one of the hardest to retake as a CT. You might have the man advantage, you might have infinite utility and there are still times where it feels the T’s always have the advantage when going for the retake.

To help you with this impossible task, I’ve teamed up with Adam “friberg” Friberg, a professional CS:GO player from DignitasVIE to write this article where, hopefully, you’ll be able to pick up a few tips that will make your and your team’s life easier when trying to go for that retake against the T’s on Dust2.

Why Is the B Bombsite So Difficult to Retake?

The B bombsite of Dust2 is recognized as one of the hardest to retake due to how the entrances are laid out, how they create choke points that make it harder for more than one CT to cross at the same time, and how easy it is to cover them with utility - do you have a Smoke? You can entirely smoke out one of the three positions the CTs might come from. The same happens with a Molotov, and even the Flashbangs are used to heavily delay the retake attempt. When asked why the B Bombsite is so hard to retake, friberg said:

The hardest part of the retake on the B site is that the Ts don’t really have to take any aggressive duels, they can basically set up a lot of crossfires inside the site and do well from there.

Improve Your Initial Approach

Although hard, it’s definitely not impossible, it just requires good timing, coordinated team play, and some well-placed utility… and sure, knowing the bombsite well also helps, like all the possible positions your opponent might be playing from.

Make sure you know how to use the utility from outside the site, like using an Incendiary grenade that reaches the corner of the Platform, or underthrown grenades that land on the corner of the bomb site.

First of all, you need to think really hard if you want to do the retake, sometimes it’s better to just save, depending on the situation.

friberg makes a good point here. It’s almost impossible to retake without losing a few guns, and sometimes risking that might not be worth it depending on the situation of the match. A good example is if you’re on the brink of getting your economy collapsed and risking losing two rounds in a row due to that.

To succeed retaking on B, I feel like you need to apply pressure from both Tunnels and Outside. One thing that the teams like to do is to throw a smoke right in front of the door that allows them to push without being seen from everywhere at the same time.

Combining tactical smokes like that, along with a coordinated attack from both sides, is the way to go. You want to use smokes so that you can clear different parts of the bomb site at different timings. Let’s say you come from outside - using that smoke, along with a push from tunnels from your teammates, allows you to just be worried from the bombsite and the most forward part of the platform.

The player from tunnels can cover the back end of the platform (especially if someone from outside used an Incendiary/Molotov to force him out of the position). When they know that position is cleared, they can push to the car - all this while the smoke on the door is still up and covering the players coming from outside. Also, everything starts with a well-placed flashbang.

There are a couple of very good flashbangs that you can use and it all depends on where your teammates are coming from. They can push through Door or Window, you just have to make sure the flashbang is good enough to cover as much ground on-site as possible without blinding your teammates.

Change Things Up and Surprise Your Opponents

I’ve also asked friberg for some tips on how to do the first engagement in the safest way possible while trying to avoid getting killed from crossfires, to which he quickly said:

You should try to explain to your teammates which way you’ll be looking when you first get into the site. If you’re getting in with two players with one flashbang, maybe have the first guy jumping in and looking to the left while the second will look to the right. If the timing goes right for you, things should be fine, especially if you time with more players from other positions while attempting the retake. After that… the retake is on!

- friberg

Now, you’re in a position to start the retake, you have players coming from outside and others coming from the tunnel… which of them play first?

It depends on how many are attempting the retake. One popular thing that people are doing while retaking is having a lot of people running Tunnels while playing very passive outside. Let’s say the Terrorists notice that a lot of players are running Tunnels - they might want to run Outside, which is a very valid decision, and you’ll be there waiting for them. You can try and play more defensively on Middle while waiting for the push. I think it’s probably the strongest retake that is being done now.

CS:GO is a game where no two rounds are exactly the same, which means that the “best tip in the world” can only take you so far. You need to be able to adapt to the situation happening at the moment and react accordingly - after all, you can only hold the retake for so long before the bomb goes off. The more you play, the more you’ll get used to reacting to different situations. Remember that CS:GO is a game with a really high skill-ceiling!

Also, the most common tip is also super valid here - watch demos of professional matches! Learn how the professional players play and try to understand why they make decisions X or Y when something happens around the map. Look at their positioning when trying to set up the retake, the utility they use, and how they time the pushes. It’s all about putting in the hours to study.
