Interview with CLG.eu support, Krepo

We talked with clg.eu Krepo about his gaming career and league of legends.

Mitch "Krepo" Voorspoels is currently playing support for Counter Logic Gaming EU. I got the chance to interview him, and we talked about League of Legends, his thoughts about the game and the competitive scene.

You are already known by many summoners, but for the record, can you present yourself?

Krepo: I go by the name of "Skumbag Krepo". I'm a league of legends veteran playing on EU-West and im currently enrolled in Counter Logic Gaming's EU team. I support Yellowpete on botlane. Wickd, Snoopeh and Froggen fill up our lineup. I'm 21 years old, currently residing in Belgium, born and raised.

When and how did you begin to play league of legends?

Krepo: I picked it up at the very beginning, roughly 2 years ago but then dropped it later on cause I found it to be too boring. Later on I started it again and gradually improved my skill and I found myself in the higher ELO-regions, it was then i decided to try and become competitive.

Aside of league of legends what do you do with your life?

Krepo: I study constructional engineering. Currently in between my 2nd and 3rd year. I'm also an avid fan of having a life outside of gaming. That's why I spend nearly each weekend with my friends, often in the pub. I have a thorough love for belgian Beer. A week's not complete without a good "Jupiler".

What are your expectation with clg.eu?

Krepo: I joined clg.eu for the players as well as the organisation. I value respect very highly in team environments and feel I get it from our team as well as the organisation. As CLG is a company pretty much founded by gamers I feel very good here and hope to stay with them for a long time. As to achievements, we want to be the best. I want to compete in as many big events as I can, scoring pretty high, but don't we all? I want to become an established entity in the league of legends scene as a team.

How do you see the competitive scene nowadays? What are your thoughts in the latest tournaments?

Krepo: The competitive scene is always evolving, I think league of legends is slowly growing towards its peak and it's now we have to capitalize on that. It will take a lot of hard work and dedication, but I firmly believe we can make it. I found IEM kiev to be rather boring as it was missing lots of the key-players.

IEM hannover however was entirely different, it was an interesting watch and yet again proved the popularity of LoL in europe as well as America. My only regret is not being able to play in any of said events, but that's nothing we can change. I'm looking forward to qualifying for the next IEM event.

You play the role of support, what does this mean to you, playing support? What advice can you give to people trying to learn the role?

Krepo: Supporting is making sure other people have an easier time doing their job well. Be that on a mechanical level or a theoretical one. As a support you have the ability to repair mistakes, sustain health, prevent damage and generally aid your team in their quest. Supports in the current meta also have a lot more time to be looking around, thinking, making plays, suggesting things. I want to make use of that by guiding my team into some mapwide plays. A support's there for not just the AD carry, but for the entire team.

The number one advice would be "think". Why am i standing here and not there? Why did I just shield? Why didn't I? Could I have done that better? Where is the jungler going to gank from? How many wards I need? When do I need them.?You don't need guides, just use your brain and analyze the game, you have time for that. You only have a handful skills you can use, make sure you use them in the best way possbile.

It is said that support defines the early game of the ad carrys, do you agree? Why so?

Krepo: Supports helps the AD carry, they do not define but rather facilitate the early game of mainly the AD carries. But supports should always be picked in great synergy with their AD, botlane is a symbiosis, AD helps the support and vice versa.

What do you think about the so called Support champions? Are they balanced?

Krepo: Well, in the current zero cs support metagame, supports are champions that can achieve a lot of useful things with limited resources. You either need steroid buffs, damage prevention or a truckload of short cooldown CC. preferably a combination of the previous. Most supports are fairly balanced, but it's very tricky to do so. A well balanced support can easily become an overpowered AP carry.

Who is your favorite support champion? Why?

Krepo: My favourite support has always been Janna. I always found her to be the best, even better than pre-nerf sona. She fits my playstyle, can be agressive and has the ability to make a play. I just love flash ult'ing people and scattering them so my team can focus them down 1 by 1.

What advice can you give to someone trying to enter the competitive scene and/or climbl the solo queue ladder?

Krepo: Play what you enjoy, get better at it and extrapolate that knowledge about the game into other lanes/champions. Think a lot, what you're doing and why. Look at yourself before you look at others. And a basic soloqueue tip, if you lose twice in a row, take a walk, go out for a breath or just stop playing.

Don't get worked up or it'll just spiral you into a state where one does not even enjoy the game anymore. If you're not having fun, you shouldn't be playing.

Any shoutouts?

Krepo: I would like to thank my teammates for making this project worthwhile. I'd also like to thank CLG and their sponsors for their continuous support. Also shoutout to fnatic Cyanide and the Fnatic team cause I always enjoying playing with them and consider them good friends. And to Clur & skull.

Thanks to dignitas for having this interview and for having Scarra in their team, of which i'm quite the fan.

Thank you Krepo for this delightful interview!
