Interview with Hallzerk

Interview with DignitasVIE CS:GO player, hallzerk

hallzerk talks about the new players, recent tournaments, and preparations for upcoming tournaments.

We’ve sat with Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli from DignitasVIE to know more about the current state of the CS:GO, how are things going with the new players, the recent tournaments, and what they’re working on to improve in the long run.

Hey hallzerk! How are things going?

hallzerk: The team is going well, we are clicking, practicing is going well. We had a good run at cs_summit 7, although I'm disappointed that we didn't get further, we choked twice against OG, games that we could have won! But yeah, it's going well, although we had a rather disappointing performance at Snow Sweet Snow more recently, it's really hard to play against these tier 2-3 teams... I feel that we are much better, but we just couldn't go further. Overall, it's going pretty well!

How are things within the team now that you’ve already had a few tournaments with the new players?

hallzerk: I think it's going fine, I feel like HEAP is getting better every match and getting more comfortable with his role. The more we practice and the more officials we play, the better it will be.

The team is also playing a different style than you were before, a more aggressive one. How is that going for you?

hallzerk: Definitely! Personally, I like to take more aggressive plays on the Terrorist side, take some early peeks, and then retreat and play support late round. When my team is playing more aggressively, it's easier for me to help them. It helps me as an AWPer, I feel it's a bit better!

Tell me about cs_summit 7. I've talked with friberg and he was especially frustrated with the matches against OG, he felt that you could have won at least one and have a different outcome in the tournament. How did that go in your eyes?

hallzerk: Overall, I think that we showed a good face, we showed that we are not here to be a "retirement home", as people call it for the older guys. We showed that we are working hard to become a better team and we're aiming to become one of the best teams in the world. We showed that we have the potential to do it - now we have to work even harder and maybe if we keep playing as we did, we'll receive some invites to other tournaments where we can eventually prove ourselves.

And what about Snow Sweet Snow? You were so close to reaching playoffs but ended up falling at the end. What happened? Why do you think it's hard to play against those types of teams, as you mentioned earlier?

hallzerk: I think people don't realize how good these tier 2-3 teams are... they are very good! They're not far away from the top, they shoot really hard. As a team, we'd naturally prefer to play against a top 10 ranked team rather than a top 50 one, our playstyle works much better against better teams. But it's only normal we have to play those more, and since they play so well, we always need to make sure we're on a good day! If two players are on an off day, it's going to be almost impossible to win the game. Everybody has to be 100% ready at all times, and that's hard when we have a lot of officials per week.

What do you need to change to make it better in the next tournaments?

hallzerk: In a lot of the matches, we had rounds where we could have closed it, and we just choked. We talk about that a lot, and there were some crucial rounds we lost multiple times - we've been thinking about how to get around that problem so that we stop losing so many close matches. I'm really disappointed that we didn't go further in some of the tournaments, especially cs_summit 7, since I feel that if we reached them, we would be one of the favorites to take the win.

Are there any words you’d like to say before finishing this interview?

hallzerk: I'd like to thank all the support showed, and the people that send us on social media, we all see it! I really appreciate that, thank you so much for supporting us and I hope you will keep doing it!
