Interview with #DIGRL player Turbopolsa

Come hear Turboposla's thoughts on the team's record breaking performance in League Play!

Our Rocket League team finished off a record-breaking league play last weekend, going 7-0 against Europe's finest opposition. Kaydop won the Golden Striker award as well as breaking the the all-time record for shooting percentage at 42.67%, Violentpanda won the Clutch Playmaker with 1.00 assists per game (0.06 off the record), and Turbopolsa was in the top 3 in goals, saves and assists for the league.

The team has shown a kind of dominance that was previously unheard of in the highly competitive and unpredictable European region, and now hold an all-time record of 33-4 in the RLCS. This weekend they will be competing in the EU Regional Championship to determine seeding for the LAN, so we had a chat with Turbo to hear his thoughts on their season and their prospects in the Regional Championship.

The team is 7-0 going into the Regional Championships after a record-breaking season, did you expect to be this dominant this season?

Turbo: I definitely didn't expect a sweep through the league play at all. Sure some teams made some changes but a 7-0 season was not in my mind.

Do you think this dominance is partly due to a drop in the standard of EU RLCS or do you think you’ve improved?

Turbo: I think it's a mix of us sticking together and not falling off, as some teams did a roster change and kind of had to adapt to a new playstyle which can take months to master.

Do you feel any extra pressure when playing with everyone saying that you’re the best team ever?

Turbo: Yes, of course it's hard to take a loss when everyone thinks you are the best in the world. Every day there's a new Reddit post saying "Who can take down Dignitas" and so on. When we lose that match is going to be talked about for a while and that can get to you and make you frustrated.

There’s been a shift towards more car variety in the RLCS this year, with you yourself using different cars in different weeks. Do you think that more cars are now usable in a competitive setting or have they always been viable but underused?

Turbo: Octane is just in general a nice car visually. Any car is viable but you don't see people use for example the grog, because it looks so clumpy and big.

When the team qualified for LAN in Las Vegas after the 4th week of league play, was there any change in your mentality going into the final weeks?

Turbo: Not really. We all knew we had nothing to play for but going 7-0 in a season is quite an impressive feat. We knew we had to play our best, especially against the last two teams who in my opinion are the best teams (WDG and Vitality) other than us.

With Complexity Gaming now not qualifying for the Regional Championship, do you think they were wrong to make a roster move before the start of this season?

Turbo: At that time it was a no-brainer to replace Metsa because he was not really playing like he was before and with Greazy they could play way faster than they had before. However, it's easy to say now that the move wasn't the greatest ever but we will see how they play in the next season if they take the time to practice.

Going across to NA, NRG, have been struggling compared to their previous dominance in the region. Do you think that they’ll be able to bring their form back for LAN?

Turbo: Absolutely, the hardest thing is to make LAN. After that, it's just to show up on the day and play the greatest you ever have and I believe they can show up just like they did at season 5 and even better.

Looking ahead to the Regional Championship, who do you think will be your toughest opponents?

Turbo: Probably Vitality, I believe they will take the win against PSG. Our last two series against F3 have been sweeps (7-0 total) and they have only scored twice.

Who deserves the MVP for this season in your opinion?

Turbo: Besides me because I'm superior to everyone else? Probably Kuxir because he has been carrying F3 with that insane goal participation, or Kaydop.

Congrats on a fantastic season. Have you got any last shoutouts?

Turbo: Thanks to Team Dignitas for taking such good care of us and to all the fans who keep cheering for us! Don't be afraid to say hello in Vegas!

Big thank you to Turbo for taking the time to answer a few of our questions, be sure to drop him a follow on his socials!
