After, barely missing the chance at playing on the LCS stage, Challenger AD Carry Matthew "Deftly" Chen's performance on Team Infernal resulted in joining NA Challenger Series team EUnited where they jumped to first place after two weeks of 2-0 sweeps against Delta fox and Team Gates. I spoke to Deftly about the NA Scouting Grounds, why EUnited and his confidence to qualify for the LCS.
You guys were able to break this stand still between the top 5 teams all tying and then 2-0 both Delta Fox and then Team Gates a week after. What went different for you and Eunited this week?
Deftly: We worked hard and came out with the win.
Speaking of Delta Fox, you worked with the Echo Fox organization during Scouting Grounds. Would you say you were happy with the Scouting Grounds? Or how do you believe things could have went better?
Deftly: Yeah I for one really liked the Scouting Grounds, not only did it teach me things, it also allowed me to network with other players/staff. I think Scouting Grounds was really well run.

So why did you choose to go over to Eunited opposed to staying with Echo Fox and joining Delta Fox? What attracted you to Eunited?
Deftly: I chose EUnited over the Echo Fox offer which at the time was an inhouse sub offer where I would also have some lcs play time, due to the fact that I felt a need to prove myself in NACS before jumping into LCS. Also I was able to bring players from my previous team Cloud 9 Challenger over with me onto EUnited.
Yeah I actually noticed that. I believe Eunited has you, Licorice and Bobqin coming from C9C?
Deftly: Zeyzal as well.

Going off of that, Akaadian in an interview with Blitz Esports stated that he would rather be competitive in challenger than on a bad team in LCS. Does that statement hold true to you as well even if you are able to perform well in LCS?
Deftly: Yes however I don't think Echo Fox is a bad team. Personally I feel that your first season sort of determines who you are.
There are a lot of players in NACS currently that are from Scouting Grounds. Do you believe the Scouting Grounds will continue to be a way for NACS teams to find talent or is this all because it was newly introduced?
Deftly: I feel as though Scouting Grounds won't develop talent but will showcase talent from a few of the twenty players if there are no changes to the event.
You were able to receive your first starting position with EUnited. What is behind all of the shot calling and successful play? Are there any specific requirements that you take on in terms of shot calling?
Deftly:On this team there's no need for shot calling since we have two veterans.
You guys are up against dense competition, who would you say will be your toughest opponents in playoffs should you qualify?
Deftly: I'd say Tempo or Gold Coin United.
Big Gods are also a team that is in the same range as EUnited. What would you say Tempo and GCU have over Big Gods?
Deftly: They have more established names however I do think Big Gods has played pretty well so far especially Wiggily.
Are there any teams in the NA LCS that you are confident about facing in the promotion tournament?
Deftly: i think regardless of the team, as long as we play well, we will be fine.
In the future, what would you like to be known for in your career in League? What are you still looking to fulfill?
Deftly: I want to be known as one of the best AD Carries in the world 2 years from now. I want to make LCS and I want to make worlds. I want to compete with the best and show that I deserve to be there.
Any last words to your fans and supporters?
Deftly: Thanks for supporting me and my team and I hope you guys continue to do so as we embark our journey into playoffs and also relegations.
