Valorant has revamped their rewards system adding yet another currency to the game. Are Kingdom Credits a welcomed addition, or does this convolute Valorant’s current system?
Valorant has three different currencies in the game. There are Valorant Points, which can be purchased with actual money. There are Radianite Points, which can be obtained through the Battle Pass or purchased with Valorant Points (which uses real money) and now there are Kingdom Credits. Kingdom Credits are earned through playing the game and cannot be purchased with real money. Valorant Points are used to purchase skins, battlepasses, and agents. Radianite Points are used to upgrade the skins bought with Valorant Points as well as purchase other color variants of said skins. Kingdom Credits are used to purchase locked agents, agent gear, and old Battle Pass accessories a player may have missed out on.
Valorant and Radianite Points work together on unlocking skins and the features and color variants associated with them, while Kingdom Credits (credit system rather than point system to differentiate) works in its own ecosystem of unlockables. So, what is that ecosystem that revolves around Kingdom Credits?
Daily missions are now stacked through 4 checkpoints. Each checkpoint is divided into 4 pieces. Pieces can be earned through playing. 1 Round Win in either Unrated, Competitive, Swiftplay, or Premier grants the player 1 Piece. Each Match played in Spike Rush, Escalation, or Team Deathmatch grants the player 2 pieces.
To complete the Daily Mission is to complete all 4 checkpoints. To do this a player needs to win 16 rounds in the regular game modes or complete 8 matches in the alternate game modes (or the combination of the two). This is a welcomed change from the specific objectives players used to need to complete such as using an enemy’s weapon to kill them and buying a certain number of abilities.
Each completed checkpoint (4 pieces earned) grants 150 Kingdom Credits and 1,000 XP. If all checkpoints are completed, players are looking at earning a maximum of 600 Kingdom Credits and 4,000 XP a day through Daily Missions.
But What if I Miss a Day?
So that players won’t get punished for not checking in, they will receive a 2x multiplier the following day to catch up from missing the previous day. It does not stack past missing one day.
Players can earn Kingdom Credits besides completing the daily missions; however, the game does not grant you many just by playing. Players get 2 Kingdom Credits for every round played. In addition to the 2 credits, players get 4 Kingdom Credits for every round won.
So, for example if you win a match 13-10, you will earn 46 Kingdom Credits for the rounds played and 52 Kingdom Credits for the rounds won. This brings the player to a total of 98 Kingdom Credits for the match.
If we take just that match and apply the Daily Missions completed for just playing that single match, players are looking at a total of 548 Kingdom Credits for playing a single match and winning 13-10 for that day alone.
For alternate game modes, Kingdom Credits are distributed differently. For Spike Rush and Team Deathmatch players will receive 20 Kingdom Credits per match. For Escalation and Deathmatch, players will receive 15 Kingdom Credits per match.
Kingdom Credits are capped at 10,000, so that players can and need to spend them instead of saving them.
There are multiple ways to spend Kingdom Credits. You can spend them buying past Battle Pass accessories or you can use them on agents.
The new Battle Pass accessory store features old Battle Pass items you may have missed out on available to purchase with Kingdom Credits. These items do not include skins; those will forever be missed out on. Gun Buddies, Player Cards, and Sprays will be priced anywhere in between 4,000 – 7,500 Kingdom Credits. Player titles are priced at 2,500 Kingdom Credits. This storefront features the same random rotating selection in Valorant’s regular store.
Agent gear is another avenue a player can take their Kingdom Credits to. Instead of the XP progression system players are used to, players can progress through Agent contracts using Kingdom Credits to unlock each level. The higher the tier, the more credits needed to unlock.
Players may note that an Agent is locked until Level 5 of their contracts and this remains true. If players do not have every agent unlocked yet, they will need to use their Kingdom Credits to progress past level 5 to unlock the agent instead of saving them and using them for old Battle Pass cosmetics. To unlock an agent a total of 8,000 Kingdom Credits is needed. This is priced just 500 Kingdom Credits more than the most expensive old Battle Pass cosmetic.
Not quite. An event will start upon the first day of a new agent’s release. This event will expedite their unlock requirements and is active for 28 days. To complete the Recruitment Event a player will need to gain 200,000 XP (which is exactly the same as what was previously needed to get to Level 5 of an Agent Contract). There is no need for Kingdom Credits if you want to unlock the newest agent during this 28-day period. If you fail to recruit them during this period, they will be in the Agent Store along with the rest of the roster. At this point Kingdom Credits are needed to unlock and use the agent.
I believe Kingdom Credits are good but they do need some work and having three different types of currency is confusing. It would be consumer friendly to do away with Radianite Points so that when you use the premier form of currency, Valorant Points, you are able to get every aspect of the skin that you used real money to purchase it with. Having built-in DLC for a skin that is already paid for is ridiculous. Kingdom Credits is a nice addition for items that cannot be purchased with real money and rewards players for playing the game.
Unlocking Agent Contracts should be separate from unlocking past cosmetics. A new player might not mind spending their credits on cosmetics instead of unlocking every agent they need to unlock, but this should not be the case, for they should not have to decide between the two. Tying XP to agents and old cosmetics to Kingdom Credits would be a change that I would welcome. Having idle unlocks like before would be best since only Daily Missions reward Kingdom Credits, this will allow the player to play on their time instead of having to check in daily to unlock what they need or want to unlock.
