Must Know CSGO Smokes for T-side Ancient (128 & 64 Tick!)

Get ahead of the game with our definitive T-side smoke guide to dominate on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s (CSGO) newest map, Ancient.

Valve introduced a new map to CSGO's Active-Duty map pool, Ancient. After two years of an unchanged map pool, Ancient’s addition was a welcome surprise. Since its release, Ancient has become known as one of the most counter terrorist (CT) sided maps. However, we have put together a must-see terrorist (T) smoke guide for 64 and 128 tick players that will show the enemies a tough fight.

ANCIENT T-SIDE MID SMOKES

Middle (Mid) comprises a significant portion of the map that can be difficult for Ts to access early in the round. For one, the proximity of CT-Spawn to House is a shorter trip to Mid than for the Terrorists, who enter through a narrow corridor called Connector. If not careful, an unsuspecting player will find themselves bombarded with grenades, incendiaries, and smokes. Furthermore, CTs have a full view of players walking through Connector, which is a brutal fight for the Ts.

Mid control is vital because it gives Ts access to two critical paths. On the left side of Middle is an entry to the A Site. Similarly, there are boxes on the left side of mid that players can boost or jump on, allowing access to the Catwalk towards B. Therefore, controlling these access points sets teams up for site splits or a quick path to gather for an execution. Lastly, having control of Mid puts T-sided lurkers in position to flank both A and B sites – catching CTs off-guard.

HOUSE SMOKE FROM T-SPAWN

A simple smoke that offers Ts some immediate control is smoking house. This easy smoke has a big payout, as smoking House blocks a CT’s player vision of Mid and decreases the opportunity for aggression. Any CT players looking to push through House into Sandbags will think twice before running through a smoke. Both the 64 and 128 tick smokes are thrown from T-spawn and require a jump throw bind.

TUNNEL SMOKE

As mentioned before, gaining map control in Mid as a T-side player can be difficult. Not only is House a considerable vantage point that CT players have quick access to, but defenders can also watch Mid through Tunnels. This area is on the right side of top Mid and serves as an access point into the A site. Pairing the Tunnels and Window smoke together lets Ts safely work their way into Mid.

The Tunnel smoke offers T players coverage when pathing up Mid. With both clouds of smoke, attackers can focus their priority on clearing Sandbags to the left side. Like the previous House smokes, the 64 and 128 tick lineups require a jump throw bind.

B-SITE SMOKES

View from T spawn into ruins of double doors.

Another notoriously tricky area of the map for Ts to fight for is control towards the B-site. The path to the B-site is on the right side of the T-Spawn and takes approximately 9 seconds to reach the Ruins. Once inside Ruins, there are double doors that enter lower B Long. The Ruins gates are a common spot for CTs to dump their utility at the start of the map. Similar to Mid, CT players have a shorter path into the B-site. Furthermore, most of the utility is thrown from inside the site – ricocheting off the wall. This means players can throw their utility on the run as they come from spawn, giving little time for Ts to make their way through the double doors.

Rather than trying to brute force your way through double doors early in the round, it’s best to wait for the defender’s early utility to die down. Then, once you can enter the doors, there are lineups for smokes that cover instrumental parts of the site. The following smokes can be thrown individually or as part of an execution. Fortunately, the smokes require no jump bind and are ready to go for 128 and 64 tick servers.

SQUARE SMOKE ON B SITE

The first of the three B site smokes in our guide is Square. Sometimes called “Quad,” Square is on the right side of the large rock monument towards the back of B-site. Smoking this area of B blocks off the CT view of players crossing towards the Sunroom and Pillar. Additionally, the Square smoke is beneficial if you are lurking towards B-Main and have teammates attempting to enter the site through the Sunroom.

If you are on your own, you might stray away from this smoke because the lineup exposes you to the B-Main entrance. Additionally, smoking off Square does not allow cover from Stairs. However, if you have information that there are no CT players close or towards Stairs, it may be safe to throw.

STAIRS SMOKE ON B-SITE

Next, the Stairs lineup is one of the more essential smokes for T players looking to control the B-site. Stairs is a standalone smoke, making it extremely useful in both low number and execute situations. The Stairs lineup comes in handy when lurking towards B on your own because it is relatively safe to throw. There’s no need for a player to expose themselves to B-Main and can be thrown quickly.

The smoke pops towards the bottom of the site stairs, offering cover to players crossing the B-Main entrance. Having Stairs smoked off is instrumental when entering the B-site because it is a standard line of sight for AWPers to hold. What is more, the Stairs area has several small cubbies that sneaky CT players often camp. For this reason, do not forget to hold the smoke for hidden CTs attempting to phase the smoke.

SUNROOM SMOKE ON B-SITE

Lastly, the Sunroom, also known as “Cubby” or “Cave,” is a small room on the right side of the B-site. The Sunroom’s entrance is small, dark, and off to the side, making it easily forgettable. However, a CT player left unattended in Sunroom can quickly devastate players crossing from B-Main. Furthermore, the cubby is in front of the site’s plant zone, making it an easy hiding spot for players waiting to kill the bomb planter.

Our guide’s five T-side smokes give attackers a leg up on one of the game’s most CT-sided maps. Staying patient and using smart utility are the keys to success on the T-side of Ancient. Stay tuned to Dignitas for more CSGO guides that will step your game up!
