Interview with Team Dignitas Overwatch Streamer, Proudfurry

DIG Novalas catches up with Team Dignitas' newest streamer Proudfurry.

Proudfurry, also known as "Navi Leviticus", is an Overwatch focused streamer who has recently joined Team Dignitas. In his past he's played many different games like Team Fortress 2, League of Legends and Counter Strike because he loves the strong competitive feel to them. His streaming career started around 3 years ago but Navi has only recently become a more serious streamer and has found many more successes since he started Overwatch. In this interview, DIG Novalas catches up with Navi to find out more about how he feels about being approached by Team Dignitas, his past, and his goals for the future.

Welcome to Team Dignitas as our newest Overwatch streamer! Tell us a bit about your gaming history, which games you played and how you ended up in Overwatch?

Navi: I've played many different games before Overwatch, and have always loved playing the ones with a strong competitive feel to them, such as Counter Strike, League, Dota, and TF2. I ended up playing Overwatch due to my impression that Blizzard would be able to put a really great competitive fps game together, and after playing the beta version I just thought that the game was the best fps to come out in years.

How long have you been streaming for?

Navi: I technically started streaming 3 years ago as an on and off variety streamer, but had a lot of internet issues and problems in my life that prevented me from ever taking it as seriously as I could have. It started off as a fun hobby, but after some time I started putting a lot more time and effort into my streams, especially during the past 2-3 months. Currently, everything seems to be really taking off, and I love being able to stream everyday and entertain people.

In the past, something came up that interfered with your capability to stream often. What happened?

Navi: I would rather not go too into detail about it, but it was basically that I wasn't making enough money at the time, and got kicked out of my house. Luckily, I had some friends that helped me get back on my feet. I really appreciate all that they did for me.

How did it feel when Team Dignitas offered to sponsor you?

Navi: It felt absolutely amazing knowing that such a well known team wanted me to be part of their team as a streamer, especially because it made me able to do what I love the most, and get paid for it. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity you guys have provided me, I wouldn't be able to do this everyday without you guys backing me up!

After being hosted multiple times by prominent Twitch streamers, your viewer counts have gone through the roof. How do you feel about the current state of your stream?

Navi: I think that things are really looking up for my streaming career. Despite this, I know that there's more potential for my stream, and that it will continue to keep growing as time goes on.

Say you weren't able to start streaming again. What would you be doing now instead?

Navi: Hmm... Well, I'm actually not too sure, maybe I would try to pick up drawing again. Honestly, streaming has been the one thing in my life that has brought me the most joy. I always love interacting with my chat, making them laugh, teaching them new tips and tricks, or helping them improve in general. It's really just something that I truly love and hope that I won't have to stop doing.

What are your plans for the future? Do you want to play competitively or focus on streaming?

Navi: I really hope to get more into the competitive field with a team competing in the tournaments. I always strive for improvement, as I want to become known and recognised within the gaming community. But even then, I wouldn't drop streaming. If anything, it would most likely just cause me to stream a bit less.

Do you have any stream-related plans that you want to share with your fans?

Navi: I do plan on doing sub games more often and start doing some giveaways as a way of giving back to everyone has supported me this far.

What Overwatch character triggers/tilts you the most?

Navi: I would have to say Roadhog more than anyone else. His hooks, man, they always get to me...

What's your opinion on the current state of Hanzo in Overwatch?

Navi: I think that he is an amazing skill based character, but sadly he doesn't appear much in the current meta due to the head shot hitboxes being nerfed on all characters, which made it harder to hit people strafing. I think that he would greatly benefit from a slight buff to his projectile speed, of maybe around 15% or so.

How do you feel about the ranked system in Overwatch at the moment?

Navi: Honestly, I think that it's pretty terrible at the moment. The lack of separate 6 man queues, and rank 50's being put with 70's or 80's makes it seem like the game thinks that as long as the team average is close enough that the lower ranked players will have a chance of winning. This leads to matchmaking putting you in a game where you could potentially win half a bar from a victory, or lose almost a whole level from a loss, even if it the game itself was a close and challenging one.

You've recently become a fan of playing Ana. What do you like best about her?

Navi: Mainly, it's how effective she can be in the hands of a skilled player with good aim, map awareness and knowledge of all the heroes on the battlefield. Plus, in my opinion, she's just a super fun character that I enjoy playing.

Put yourself in the shoes of an Overwatch developer. What character would you change?

Navi: Most probably Genji. To be honest, it really feels like he's a bit too strong right now. Even a slight change such as decreasing the radius of his sword slashes in his ultimate form, or adding drop off of damage at longer ranges would be a good change for him.

Walk us through the daily life of Proudfurry. What's your routine like everyday?

Navi: Well, after waking up, I usually get ready to stream while making some coffee or getting an energy drink, then talking to my viewers or fellow streamers on Discord and Twitch before going live. After my stream is done, I post the clips sent to me by my viewers from my stream onto my Discord channel for the people who missed my stream to check out, which basically sums my daily routine up.

Any shoutouts that you'd like to make?

Navi: I really want to thank my mods for doing such a great job on moderating my chat and keeping it a nice friendly environment for everyone to hang out, and everyone who hosted me and helped me get this far (Poke_Lawls, TSM_Dyrus, Pterodactlysftw, chipshajen, Roflgator, and surefour), and my lover for supporting me on my journey.
