Examining Different Playstyles in Apex Legends featuring DIG ShurimaWizard

In this guide, we're covering multiple playstyles featuring one of our own professional players, ShurimaWizard!

Playstyles vary in each game and Apex Legends is no exception. A Battle Royale game like Apex Legends encourages different playstyles even if you're on the same team, while at the same time also heavily punishing greedy choices. This is why we sat down with one of our own professional players, Nhan "ShurimaWizard" Le, to discuss this topic and determine what playstyles are actually in Apex Legends. We also covered which Legends excel in combination with certain playstyles and synergy within an established team. Let's get right into it!

Aggressive Playstyle

The Aggressive playstyle is mostly self-explanatory but should be handled with care. In Apex Legends, being overly aggressive can result in the playstyle ending up like a double-edged sword. You’ll need a precise and spontaneous judgment for each different scenario that may unfold. When you’re playing aggressively, keep in mind that your positioning may become worse. High ground and knowledge of the map will definitely help you, so don’t get caught out.

For an aggressive playstyle, we recommend weapons that excel at short to mid-range engagements. The weapons that we are about to list are ideal for these type of fights:

  • R-99 SMG
  • Havoc
  • R-301
  • Spitfire
  • Devotion
  • Prowler (Selectfire Receiver attachment heavily recommended)

Characters should also influence what type of playstyle you’re trying to go for. ShurimaWizard told us that these are his picks for the aggressive playstyle:

  • Wraith
  • Pathfinder
  • Octane

All three of these characters have a great escape or overall swift mobility, making them the perfect pick for fights that you want to take up close and personal. Pathfinder and Octane also have the ability to disengage more easily compared to other legends with their Tactical Abilities.

Shotcaller Playstyle

The Shotcaller playstyle is a laid-back type of playstyle, but don't let this deceive you. It's a very complex and communication-oriented playstyle! As a shot-caller, you'll make the most important decisions with input from your team taken into account. Some of the most important aspects of being a shotcaller include communicating efficiently and effectively, having an overview of the battlefield and making sure that your team works together. These type of players should do almost the exact opposite of how an aggressive player plays their game, so try to find a balance between the two players that take up these kind of playstyles.

Beware that the shotcaller probably has the most responsibility out of any squad member in your team. If calls go wrong, your decision ruined either the fight or the whole round for not only yourself but the whole squad. Experience matters!

The best shot-caller characters are the exact same Legends as the aggressive playstyle, including:

  • Wraith
  • Pathfinder
  • Octane

To add upon what we previously stated on these three characters, they're by far the best options to pick if you want to quickly rotate around the map. Pathfinder and Wraith are the two best options for escaping very tight situations, with Octane's movement being more predictable when he uses his Ultimate Ability, Jump Pad.

Support Playstyle

There are currently two so-called "Support" characters in the game, these being Lifeline and Pathfinder. Lifeline has a healing drone and a revive shield, making her an obvious choice for this class. Moving on to Pathfinder, we find less "Support" like traits especially when being compared to Lifeline.

Supporting playstyles really come into play when you're in the midst of a fight, letting the other squad members fight before you. You'll also be the one prioritizing your teammates over the enemies, reviving them or making sure you defend them if they've taken a beating. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Always make sure that you're in-between your teammates, no matter their role. You're a foundation for the team that they can build and expand upon, optimizing your team's chances of survival. These are the characters that best fit this role:

Lifeline

Lifeline has a heal, faster reviving and a revive shield as previously mentioned in this section of the article. This makes her the ideal support character, especially since she also has the smallest hitbox right after Wraith.

Bangalore

Bangalore is unique, as she's classified as an "Offensive" character in-game. Bangalore excels due to her defensive capabilities, being able to run away quickly when enemies are shooting at her. She also has her Tactical Ability, Smoke Launcher, allowing her to mask your team's position and revive teammates without the opponent's knowledge. Her ultimate can be used as a zoning tool, forcing opponents away from the teammates you want to save. Only you can take friendly damage from your own ultimate.

Conclusion

Utilize whichever playstyle fits you the most as a player. When it comes to the core, it's the teamwork that makes the dream work. We want to thank ShurimaWizard for helping us put together this guide covering various playstyles, his input was very valuable.
