After their trip to the Sixers training facility, #DIGRL were able to take home another LAN Victory at the NARLI 2 LAN earlier this month in a dominating fashion, defeating NRG in the Grand Finals in Toronto, Canada. We caught up with Jos "Violentpanda" van Meurs to talk about their trip to North America!
Finally, the 3v3 non-RLCS curse is broken! Did this play on your mind at all going into the final game?
Violentpanda: Not really, because when I get into a game I think of nothing else except playing that game. It's all about focus and not letting this get to you when things go wrong.
You faced NRG in the finals once again. Is this the beginning of a long rivalry between both teams? How did you prepare for this game?
Violentpanda: We prepare like we always do. Just relax and have some normal practice before the match. Just play our game and everything will be okay. But yes, I think they are, with us, one of the best teams in the world and they just keep proving themselves.
Is the trophy still broken?
Violentpanda: Actually, it wasn't broken since the people at NARLI said afterwards that the ball was loose in there, but it's much funnier that everyone thinks I broke it!
Flipside Tactics were a team that you had struggled against in the past. What was the key to your victory this time?
Violentpanda: There was no key in our victory honestly. It was just that we did our thing and played our game, which maybe in the matches before we didn't do.
What was your overall player experience at NARLI 2?
Violentpanda: Although there were some technical and practice issues, we hope that they improve it for the next event. But in general, we should be happy that they gave us the chance to show ourselves again and play to win prize money.
Scrub Killa is finally coming to the RLCS. How do you think he will perform in his debut season? Is he a player that you're worried about facing?
Violentpanda: Am I worried? No. But he is a solid player that will probably do good. So we will see how he will perform.
The EU roster shuffle is well underway, without revealing anything, do you think there are new teams that could be particularly dangerous?
Violentpanda: Yes, I know all the roster shuffles already even though they aren't announced yet. But with gReazymeister on Complexity instead of Metsanauris, I think this team will probably be the hardest opponent we will have next season.
At the Sixers training facility, you got to play Basketball with Rob Covington. What was that experience like?
Violentpanda: Can we not talk about it? Please? Thanks. No but in all honesty, it was fun attempting another sport than I normally play, and he was a great guy to be around with.
And then teaching him how to play Rocket League. Do you think he has potential?
Violentpanda: He was doing pretty well for his first time playing, but it probably was the coach that taught him right?
What other things did you get up to at the Sixers bootcamp?
Violentpanda: We did a lot of stuff while being there for a week. Most of it was media but they also taught us a lot in forms of media training, watching the food we eat, and keeping our mental and physical health in shape.
During last year's NARLI, the team struggled to perform to your usual high level. How much did travelling to America and bootcamping long before the tournament help?
Violentpanda: It helps to travel to America way before a tournament because it helps you with getting rid of your jetlag, and the first NARLI was honestly poorly arranged so we weren't even motivated to play back then.
Once again, congratulations! Do you have any final words you want to get out there?
Violentpanda: Special thanks to all the fans that came out to RLCS S5 and NARLI 2. You guys were amazing out there. Also, thanks to Team Dignitas and the Sixers for supporting us and letting us stay in their facility.
A big thank you to Violentpanda for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! Be sure to drop him a follow on his stream and check out his social media:
