This article is going to rank each of the four new main landing spots from worst to best in Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 2.
The newest season of Fortnite has brought us four new landing spots to the map. These locations are Brawler’s Battlegrounds, Mount Olympus, Grim Gate, and The Underworld. These locations have tons of new features and items to get ahold of and try out. However, each new location release always begs the question: which one is the best? Well, have no fear; in this article, we are going to go over each new landing spot individually, ranking them from worst to best, so you know where to drop in your next match of Fortnite!
Starting off the rankings and coming last but certainly not least on this list is Brawler’s Battleground. Now this new location is by no means terrible, in fact, it is probably one of the better locations when compared to all the landing spots on the map currently. However, when compared to the other new locations it does tend to fall a bit short in some respects. For starters, it is in a very awkward location on the map, all the way down south-east in the bottom right corner. This can make it difficult to land there if the Battle Bus isn’t expected to pass near that area. The overall layout of the area is open too, causing you to get spotted if you are in the main courtyard area.
However, despite being in a difficult area to reach, that isn’t to say the area isn’t necessarily good. There is a great loot pool since it is still one of the new locations, so there are plenty of chests (including the new mythological chests containing specialized loot) and other loot around the area. In addition, if you are in a position to, you can challenge Ares who drops one of the better medallions in the game giving you a damage buff on ranged weapons. So, while there are some redeeming qualities for Brawler’s Battleground, it does fall just a bit short of the others on this list, but if the Battle Bus is passing by don’t hesitate to land here and give it a shot!
Coming in third on this list is Mount Olympus, located just above Brawler’s Battleground. Mount Olympus, to put it simply, is absolutely massive. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the situation you are in. On one hand, the size of the location can help you if you are looking to create a good loadout since there are so many different areas where you can find weapons and consumables. However, the large size of the area can be difficult to navigate, and it also attracts a lot of players. So, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. Overall, the large scale of the area tends to be a net positive, since even if there are a lot of players around you, there will usually be time to slip away if things get too crazy since there will already be a lot of skirmishes and fights between other players going on, allowing you to quickly loot around you and then leave.
Essentially, Mount Olympus is just a larger version of Brawler’s Battleground, with an interesting layout since the giant mountain above the main temple can give you a nice vantage point to scope out the area. The boss of the area, Zeus, does have a good mythic weapon you can loot from him if you defeat him; however, I do think that his medallion is the weakest of the four, simply giving you a speed buff when sprinting and a jump buff when jumping out of a sprint. Overall, Mount Olympus is a solid area with tons of loot, which can be a good area to start if you don’t mind taking a few early-game fights.
The runner-up for best new location on this list is Grim Gate. What makes Grim Gate so good is that it is the best of both worlds of Mount Olympus and Brawler’s Battleground. The location is towards the middle of the map, making it a great place to land in general if you like early-game fights, but the overall size of the location is smaller compared to the other locations, making it easier to spot enemies who land here. Mixing the popularity and centralized location of Mount Olympus and the size of Brawler’s Battleground with the rivers that give you charges of Underworld Dash makes for an insanely good start.
The boss of Grim Gate is Cerberus, who has the best mythic weapon in the game, an insanely strong shotgun that, when followed up with an SMG, can send enemies back to the lobby in a matter of seconds. His medallion is also good, giving players three refreshing charges of Underworld Dash. It’s essentially a better version of Zeus’s medal since you get to activate the dash when you want, and you can use it vertically. Overall, if you are looking for a place with great loot that’s in the middle of the map and that will attract a lot of players for great early-game fights, Grim Gate is your go-to.
Finally, the best new landing spot in Chapter 5: Season 2 is the Underworld. The underworld is basically Grim Gate but scaled up to the size of Mount Olympus. The Underworld has everything that Grim Gate offers, but just more of it at the cost of being slightly more out of the way. Although being farther from the center of the map is not a big deal, since the rivers give you charges of Underworld Dash, it makes it much easier to rotate and traverse the area.
The best part of The Underworld, however, is the weapon and medallion that Hades drops after you defeat him. His SMG has fantastic DPS, and if you are somehow able to get your hands on Cerberus’s mythic weapon as well, you have an extremely deadly combo on your hands. In addition to this, his medallion is easily the strongest in the game, granting players a health and shield siphon every time they get an elimination. Overall, The Underworld takes the best aspects of all the other new landing spots and adds even more on top of that, making it the best new location this season.
While this list goes in order from worst to best, overall, all the new locations this season are very good and have a lot to offer. Each location has its own theme and charm, along with a lot of good items, strong mythic weapons, and medallions that can be earned. Make sure you check out all four of the new landing spots to see which one you like the best!
