Fortnite Chapter 4: Season 3 has brought so many new features and mechanics to the game. With new and old weapons brought in, additions to the map, and in-game mechanics, plenty of new changes have provided a fresh experience for both novice and experienced players. Along with these changes, it can be difficult knowing what to look out for when hopping out of the Battle Bus for the first time in a new season of Fortnite. Look no further, here we are going to run down all the major additions Fortnite Chapter 4: Season 3 has to offer so you can step right into the action with the upper hand.
Mapping Things Out
Like the majority of previous Fortnite seasons, the newest season released in this chapter has introduced new additions to the map including three named locations. Shady Stilts, Creeky Compound, and Rumble Ruins have been introduced to the game, as well as a few unnamed landmarks scattered between these new areas. All these new areas feature the same central theme of a jungle-like setting complete with vines that players can ride like grind rails, while also individually having certain aspects that make each one unique and different from each other.
In all these new areas, the Raptor is a tamable and rideable animal that you have most likely seen wandering around the jungle. What sets the Raptor apart from the other animals, is that when sprinting, it gets a high jump that can allow you to reach some tall heights, which can be good for escaping fights or traversal. Several plants have been added in and around these locations that do different things such as provide a jump boost or shield. Some can be used offensively as weapons by hitting them, after a delay depending on the plant they have a different effect, the purple being an explosive and the yellow acting similarly to the Stink Bomb and Stink Bow weapons from previous seasons.
Shady Stilts
Located at the top center of the map, Shady Stilts is home to many different buildings along its riverbed and the same tall trees scattered around in the other areas. The trees contain loot at the top so, when dropping here, it is an option to loot amongst the treetops to stay out of the fray. This area is probably the quietest out of the three locations due to it being further from the center of the map than the other two areas, making it a good drop for those who prefer a calmer start.
Creeky Compound
Smacked right in the center of the map is Creeky Compound. This location is a very popular spot due to its location on the map and, with the addition of all the new features like Raptors, plants, and grind vines, it can be quite a chaotic start to a game. Creeky Compound allows for some great rotations with Rumble Ruins, Shady Stilts, Brutal Bastion, and The Citadel all being nearby, it can make for a great start to any game if you are prepared to fight.
Rumble Ruins
Just southeast of Creeky Compound, we have Rumble Ruins. Rumble Ruins is quite the unique location, this is because it is home to the Wild Guard Relik NPC who guards the ruins, and killing him will cause him to drop either the Cloak Gauntlets or Relik's MK-Alpha Assault Rifle. Going inside the ruins, there are a lot of chests and quite a bit of floor loot as well, making it a great option for those looking for an action-packed start with a lot of good weapons to choose from.
What’s New With Items
In traditional Fortnite fashion, changes have been made to the arsenal of weapons and utility available in the game. Some have been vaulted, some un-vaulted, and some are completely new introductions to the game. This helps keep the game fresh and avoids gameplay from becoming too stale by allowing players to create new loadout combinations with new and old weapons and items. Make sure to check out all the item changes that can be found on Dexerto. Here are some of the major ones.
Vaulted Items
Unfortunately, with every major Fortnite season change, it is not uncommon to see some beloved weapons cut from the pool. A lot of popular weapons and items ended up not making the cut this season. Consumables like the Chug Splash and Shield Keg were vaulted, though these kinds of items tend to make a return in the future. A lot of staple guns were removed. The DMR was cut, leaving the Cobra and new Thermal DMR as the two Marksman rifle choices currently, and the Combat Shotgun was removed as well. Finally, a lot of the Exotic weapons were cut such as the Heisted Explosive Rifle and the Dragon’s Breath Sniper.
Unvaulted Items
Only a few old weapons and items have been brought back with this new season of Fortnite. The only weapons that have been added back to the game are the Drum Shotgun and the Combat SMG. While it is a little sad that only two weapons are being brought back, the Drum Shotgun was a staple in almost every loadout and is a bit over-tuned even today, so it balances out just a tad. Also being brought back is the Thermal Flopper, granting players who eat it thermal vision for a short duration. Overall, while only a few things were unvaulted this season, there are always updates throughout the seasons that bring back other items, so keep an eye out!
New Items
Several new and interesting items have been added to the game this season and some pack a serious punch. The Thermal DMR is a new addition that provides players with a leg-up when using it in long-range fights. The Flapjack Rifle is almost like the spiritual successor to the Drum Gun, with a similarly high rate of fire and clip size, however, it is a bit more accurate. Some new Mythic Items have also been added to this season. As mentioned earlier, Cloak Gauntlets that can be obtained by killing the Wild Guard Relik NPC, and the Cybertron Cannon. Both weapons add a unique aspect to building loadouts, so keep an eye out for them in your next game!
Conclusion
As usual, this Fortnite Season provides a fresh experience with all kinds of new additions to the map and weapon pool that shake things up. This season came with a lot of content to go through all of it adding a lot to do and discover. Hopefully, this article has helped you strap in for what has been added and what is yet to come in this season of Fortnite!
