With the introduction of Teamfight Tactics Set 5: Reckoning, there’s also a whole new range of compositions to fight for spots on your board. New champions, new traits and synergies, it’s a whole new game.
Set 5 has only been live for a short amount of time, but let’s take a look at some of the best compositions to run in no particular order.
This list will definitely be subject to change and may not encompass all of the best compositions!

Vel’Koz is a very viable composition to play at the moment and plays its role well as a hard carry unit. You’ll want to throw in a Spellweaver as well to activate the trait, preferably Zyra, although other Spellweavers can be used too. Ivern and Volibear are both great units to help out with frontline and activate the Revenant trait (free Guardian’s Angel). Syndra is also a great unit to add to your board as her ability helps protect Vel’Koz against assassins. Garen is great for AP heavy compositions as he helps cleave magic resist on opponents.
You absolutely need a Shojin’s on Vel’Koz as the unit requires a lot of mana to cast. Add some AP items to increase damage.
Consider throwing in the Ironclad/Knight or Mystic traits to help against certain AD heavy or AP heavy opponents.
Another AP-heavy comp, the Karma carry board can be flexed between different versions as Karma is the only core unit. You’ll want a Blue Buff and AP items to help her dish out the damage. The first sample board activates the 4 Invoker trait while the second sample board activates 6 Dawnbringer.
Again, Ivern and Volibear are strong units that activate the Revenant trait and the Garen helps reduce the magic resist on opponents with his ability. The 4 Invoker board is extremely similar to the Vel’Koz carry board while the 6 Dawnbringer board helps more with sustainability.
This board relies heavily on LeBlanc as the primary carry with the help of other synergies. LeBlanc requires a Shadow Blue Buff, which gives more mana when she drops below 60% health. Other than LeBlanc, you’ll want to activate the Coven and Assassin traits and you can throw in the Ivern and Volibear for the 3 Revenant trait with Nocturne.
To put it simply, this comp consists of 3 Coven, 4 Assassin and 2 Revenant, although you can flex the Revenant trait for something more suited to the lobby.
This composition requires a bit more in terms of its core units which consists of 4 Nightbringers (Aphelios, Morgana, Diana, Lee Sin -> Darius) and Kindred for the Ranger trait. You can throw in the Rell and Nautilus for the Ironclad trait or even toss them to throw in 2 more Rangers. This composition can be very flexible outside of the core units and it will all depend on what you will require to stay strong each game.
Prioritizing items on Morgana and Diana are better at the moment, mostly because Aphelios can use a lot of the Attack Speed and Attack Damage items well. So focus on getting the Guardian’s Angel and Morellonomicon for Morgana and a Frozen Heart for Diana.
The Draven composition is pretty straightforward and the sample board doesn’t show a full board because it’s very flexible. The core units are Draven, Ryze, Mordekaiser (for Legionnaire) and another Forgotten unit to complete the 3 Forgotten synergy (bonus Attack Damage and Ability Power). You can throw in a Diana because she’s extremely strong right now and adds the Dragonslayer trait and the rest is pretty much up to you. You can throw in a Lulu, Lux, or a Morgana for Mystic or a Jax, Rell, or Nautilus for Ironclad or Ivern and Volibear for Revenant. You can even throw in a Darius to help shred armor with his ultimate.
In terms of items, Draven is similar to Aphelios in that he uses most Attack Speed and Attack Damage items well so you can flex items pretty easily in this comp.
Once again, this list is not a comprehensive one of all the best possible compositions, but every one of the comps listed above are very strong and viable for fighting for a top four finish. There is no doubt this list will fluctuate with the new patch on May 12th. Until then, hope these comps help you climb!
